I absolutely love this song. One of my all-time favorite CCR songs. I was surprised to find that no one else had posted it. I can definitely relate to the words here... I know that I've felt like I needed/was about to breakdown before. And while I don't have people counting on me for financial support or to take care them, I have people "looking to me to keep it in line" so that I get through school and graduate and find a job and be around with family and friends, etc. All this makes me feel like I can't breakdown... like I have to keep it line. And even though sometimes I'm not sure I can keep it in line like the last line in the first chorus, I do... "just like every single time", simply because I feel like I have to or I'll end up letting everyone around me down. I'm not sure about the rest of the song really.. but that's how I feel about the chorus in my own personal life. If you haven't heard this song... I definitely recommend you give it a listen! |

The line here that says "I'm so vow while you're insane" is actually "I'm so vile while you're a saint". Not a big deal, but it's one of my favorite lines in the song. She's saying that's what "he" thinks of her and himself. I too take this song to be about my relationship with my dad. We argue all the time and never get along. Every line in this song describes our relationship perfectly. What relationship Ashlee was talking about while writing this and what each of you thinks about while listening to it is completely up for interpretation though, just like any song.... but for me, it's about my dad and I. |

I don't see the breakup meaning at all... but everyone interprets songs differently according to their experiences and such. To me it's about following your dreams. Doing what you love simply because you love it and not for any other reason like money or because other people approve. People who ignore their passions are empty inside and therefore have a "hole" inside them... doing what you love fills that hole. I believe the passion Buckcherry is singing about here is making music - but it pretty much fits any passion anyone else may have. It's also saying that doing what you love may get you nothing external right away or ever, but you continue to do it because of how it makes you feel on the inside. Like in "Working on my favorite thing using every piece of me Drinking, and smoking, and fucking, and making NOTHING" But if you pursue your passion fully, it can begin to reap external benefits by making it "something" that others can feel and see as well. Such as in "Do all your favorite things cover it with all your dreams Breathe it, and smoke it, and fuck it and make it SOMETHING" The line "So far the mean machine hasn't got the best of me" makes me think of the fame machine. He's saying he hasn't let the fame and money get to him or change who he is or what his passion is about - he's still doing what he loves for himself and everything else that has come with it now is just icing on the cake. Eh... That's what I get when I listen to this AMAZING song. :) |

I agree with Mandolin... The first time I heard this song I was completely taken aback because it sounded so much like she was describing a rape experience. Kayla88... if that is what it's about, it doesn't necessarily mean that it happened to Ashlee directly... maybe it did, maybe it happened to a friend, or maybe about a story she read... Nonetheless, that was my immediate thought when I first heard this... I like it much better than the ghost interpretation... but that's just my opinion. LL |
