Grateful Dead – Big Boss Man Lyrics 17 years ago
It's about how his boss makes him work too hard mostly by being so physically big (tall), but he's really not a very big person personality wise. He's like a bully and a coward and a tyrant.

The Aquabats – The Cat With Two Heads Lyrics 17 years ago
I love this song. Funny, fun to listen to. And, if you feel like it, it can have a message about how humans can really fuck things up when they're trying to do something they think will be good. Seriously though, a two-headed cat would be a dream come true.

Grateful Dead – Touch Of Grey Lyrics 17 years ago
It's sort of like you're down in the dirt, but looking up and seeing that it's just a rough patch and things aren't so bad, however, not making yourself ignorant by failing to acknowlege your problems (touch of grey).

Blues Traveler – Johnny B. Goode (Chuck Berry cover) Lyrics 17 years ago
No man, covering Johnny B. Goode is a good thing. It's like having an endless selection of different versions of the same song. You can tell almost anything about a person by their favourite cover of this song.

Good song, good cover...

Blues Traveler – But Anyway Lyrics 17 years ago
Yeah, it's just about when life gives you lemons being like, "it's just fruit" and moving on with your life. Whereas most people in similar situations would freak out and turn their life crazy crying and trying to put their life "back together" even though it's not that bad.

I love this song, it's so chill and even if you don't really feel like listening to the words it's still a good lift.

Grateful Dead – Cumberland Blues Lyrics 17 years ago
I'm sorta siding withpurplemnkey because it does make a lot of sense.

However, said that there's a Cumberland Rhode Island. During the American Revolution Rhode Islanders were mostly rogues and theives and the British went after them because they were smugglers. A mine, being an underground thing, could also stand for smuggling business.
I don't think my theories likely because 1) The Dead didn't usually write music based on things so long ago (I think) and 2) The whole scenario that the first theory puts forth matches most of the song's words better historically speaking , (like "Union dues")

Grateful Dead – Don't Ease Me In Lyrics 17 years ago
This is a cover song, but I forgot who originally recorded it. He was a singer of like the 20s and 30s (maybe 40s) I think.

Grateful Dead – Shakedown Street Lyrics 17 years ago
"Disco Dead" That's perfect, I've been looking for a way to describe this song.
This song reminds me of my town, "Don't tell me this town ain't got no heart. You just gotta poke around. " my town is mostly projects (ghettos, kinda) and there's all sorts of killing and gang violence and needles and pollution and everyone's sorta poor, but there's a really rich art and music culture, which you really can't find unless you already know where it is or where to look for it. Despite that, the city has really truly died down since the like the start of the 1970s, like this place had people and culture everywhere and now it's hidden.

Grateful Dead – Casey Jones Lyrics 17 years ago
I think that Casey Jones was a real person, he came up somehow in 7th grade history (got a detention for raising my hand and explaining to the class how he was on cocaine and overdosed and crashed)
In this case I think that Casey Jones was used more as a metaphor than this simply being a historical telling. Perhaps Casey Jones represents someone who died in a car crash (or something) while on coke. Maybe like, the dude-who-died's parent was a cocain addict and then the kid got into it when they got older, "Trouble ahead/Trouble behind" (behind, like, the past)...
Not sure if this is any good, but at least it's on topic, right?

Grateful Dead – Cassidy Lyrics 17 years ago
I am named Cassidy for this song, first name. Yeah, I know, dirty fuckin' hippie...blah blah blah...heard it all before. I've always kind of liked this song, it's not my favorite, but it's good.

Grateful Dead – Box Of Rain Lyrics 17 years ago
I rediscovered this song in seventh grade, we used to play the dead all the time and then it sort of disappeared and no-one noticed. I listened to this song and knew nearly all of the words, pretty amazing since it had been like 6 years since I had last heard the song. I always thought it was about just chilling in the world around you and how everything's okay even though we've all got a lot of things to take seriously. Just barely getting by, but not at all miserable and seeing things from every angle. Great song....

Jimmy Buffett – Cheeseburger In Paradise Lyrics 17 years ago
The more sensible sounding explanation is dieting, however, the fun explanation is that he was stranded on a boat in the ocean. I like the fun explanation.

Jimmy Buffett – Margaritaville Lyrics 17 years ago
Man, I heard this song when I was little and this song (apart from the magarita parts, I didn't know what that was) basically set the tone for my life, I decided that It's be cool to just chill and play the guitar, like be on vacation forever (hopefully with some job that I like, I didn't think much about that though when I five)
I've always interpretted like most people, it's a song about chillin out and even though you're happy it's like why am I STILL here? but you really don't want to leave because you've got simple life that completely satifies you. And, of course, admitting your own mistakes in a stiuation where you easily did and could have continued to blame the rest of the world.

Arlo Guthrie – Alice's Restaurant Lyrics 17 years ago
My favorite part is when like ten minutes (more or less, I haven't bothered to time it) into the song he's like "but thats not what I came to tell you about. I Came to talk about the draft."
This whole song is the only good part about thanksgiving (besides everyone getting drunk and talking about boggle and thomas the tank engine toy we used to have that played this really annoying song)

"The wrong two Beatles died first" I've never heard that before, but it's so true.
Yeah, just like sloop said, it's a plea (plee?) to God leave the material world (also the name of the album) after death and be able to be as close to God and free of material burden while on Earth.

The Beatles – Yellow Submarine Lyrics 17 years ago
I really like the school bus theory, something like that had crossed my mind forever ago. However, reading it over and listening to the song it sounds like it could be about the the childish fantasy that fame is absoloutly great all of the time. Sort of a sarchastic, childish-sounding rant.
"As we live a life of ease,
Everyone of us has all we need,"
That's one of the big lines that got me, their lives were easy in theory, but think of "Beatlemania" some of the stories sound awful for them.
"And our friends are all aboard,
Many more of them live next door,"
This was another one because everyone says "I'm going to be famous and buy big place and my friends will visit all of the time"
The see of green could be big money record labels or something. L

Someone had really nice trip, I think that with a lot of musicians from around that time you can never 100% rule that one out.
