Alkaline Trio – My Little Needle Lyrics 10 years ago
Alkaline Trio are heavily metaphorical. I'm not so sure why everyone is so hung up on this song being about heroine or about a girl. I've always got the impression from this song that he's using heroine addiction as a metaphor for the unhappiness either following a breakup or just being fed up with being lonely and self medicating to relieve the feelings of depression and sadness.

If you need further convincing just look at the song "this addiction".

Alkaline Trio – Trucks And Trains Lyrics 10 years ago
This song is about feeling stuck in your life, and the monotony of being unhappy with your current situation.

Hence all the talk about the grass on the other side, looking up, and the various references to methods of travel and the repetition of them leaving town to "somewhere better than here"

Immortal Technique – Dance With The Devil Lyrics 12 years ago
I know this song word for word and I get chills during the rape section when I listen to it. it's so vivid and brutal.

There seems to be some controversy whether it was meant to be his real mother or not and it definitely is (although the story is likely not a real event). There's a lot of significance in the shirt over the woman's head, and how technique talks of Billy's mother earlier in the song. They also picked this woman up at 3am and the song specifically says that Billy remembers how his mom would come home late. It's purely for dramatic effect to the song and a huge climax to the story.

Cage – I Never Knew You Lyrics 13 years ago
Pretty simple song where a guy sees a woman on the street and due to his inability to bring himself to talk to her, he stalks her to her house and watches her from afar eventually breaking in and killing her in his own twisted way of trying to get his love out. At the end the lines "There's something happening between us, you can't deceive" and "If there was a way out I think you would've taken it" almost make it seem as though the killer believes that they are actually in a relationship and that she wants this.

A very chilling song without being overly explicit. The line "You should cherish the words that I got in my mouth The only words that can truly explain how I got in your house" is definitely the climax of the song and puts a shiver down my spine every time i hear Cage sing it.

Simply amazing song.

Brand New – Sic Transit Gloria...Glory Fades Lyrics 13 years ago
I've read a few comments with people saying that this song is about Brand New's interaction with the music industry and fame. Which i don't doubt at all considering this has been a topic of a number of songs. And I remember reading in an interview that they said almost no one will understand the true meaning of the song.

That being said I'd just like to comment on the actual story the song paints. The Song is about a loss of innocence. A boy invites a promiscuous girl over for what will be his first time of sex. As most young boys sex is a fascination and a strong driving force "it used to be the reason i breathed but now it's choking me up". He is a virgin who has had some conversations and coaching from his other male friends who have had sex, but when the time comes he isn't ready for it. He is choking up, she feels sick. He finds out all he wants to do is hold someone and let love unfold naturally not jump straight into sex. A first time can be a nerve-wracking experience for some.

Some of the other lines refer to how this act will change his life "No longer cool, but a boy in a stitch, unprepared for a life filled with lies and failing relationships". Its a sudden realization that love isn't like in the movies. Its sloppy and full of heartache.

The boy in this song isn't exactly used, but his innocence is lost. His glory and the glory of a first time with a girl and the act of sex is faded as he learns what it really is. "this is the first and last time he says".

Flobots – Handlebars Lyrics 13 years ago
Pretty simply this song is about power without control, and more specifically it was bringing to light what sort of Power and ideologies the president of the United States holds.

It starts off by riding his bike with no handlebars (no direction, no control)
He can keep rhythm with no metronome (no restrictions)

all of this builds towards a god complex. He can do "anything he wants"

This carries over into his adult-hood when he gains real power (implied president of the united states), the splitting of a molecule is referencing the atomic bomb. And most of the other lines vaguely reference the American stance on politics, where they treat the world in the palm of the hand.

The dangerous warning at the end is that this all powerful president can end the entire planet in a Holocaust if he wants to. Because he can do anything he wants.

Darren Hanlon – I Wish That I Was Beautiful For You Lyrics 15 years ago
As delial was getting at "you find so wonderful could want you when you feel so ugly yourself" is pretty much the overlaying meaning of the song.

When you are so in love with someone you practically warship their existance. They "inspire fireworks" (or intense feelings inside of you). He wishes that he was a better person equal to that if which adornment he places on his love. "to be worthy of one single page out of one of those magazines you read"--a feeling of insignifcance.

The beauty in the song isn't so much physical appearance as an overall exceptional quality of a person. An inner beauty formulated through an intense love.

Only thing I'm not complete sure about is near the end the 'dream about the bus'... the lyrics are beautiful but I don't really undestand the significance of dreaming that the woman he loved turned into something he didnt.

If I had to take a stab I would guess that the man is worshiping the woman from afar, is close, but she probably doesn't know how he feels because he is feeling too insignificant to engage her. Which could be why he has to dream about her.

Alkaline Trio – Hell Yes Lyrics 15 years ago
Honestly I can't believe there's any debate about this song. Since members of the band are openly satinist the song is very clear in its meaning. The song is about the failure of God in being there and the realization that the "Dark Father" is the one who was.

Box Car Racer – There Is Lyrics 15 years ago
I really love the mental imagery of this song and the way the music compliments the lyrics so well.

However the meaning of this song I find tough to interpret. It's obviously about a boy and a girl, but I'm always confused as to whether they are still together, or if they're separated and she found someone else.

Most of al,l the lines:
"Do you care if I don't know what to say?
Will you sleep tonight, or will you think of me?
Will I shake this off, pretend it's all okay
that there's someone out there who feels just like me?
There is..."

Part of me wants to say its the boy finding it unbelievable he finely found another person who feels the way he does, and loves him the way he loves her. But it could also be him saying will he be okay knowing that there is another guy who loves his girl the way that he does.

I just don't know. but AMAZING song.

Straylight Run – Waiting On The Weekend Lyrics 16 years ago
This song is one of my favorites and so perfect if you've ever had a long distance relationship.

It touches on some of the biggest issues with them such as the distance, and being apart all week. Even the line "all week waiting on the weekends, we'll get bored" Is a big concern to most long distance relationships. A fear they they wont work out because the parties will get "bored" being apart.

It seems though at the end of the song the couple overcomes the concerns of the distance and receive their "reward for being brave" which is being together.

Saves the Day – This Is Not An Exit Lyrics 16 years ago
I'm sure it's been said because the song is pretty straightforward. It's about living life for the experience and journey and living without regrets. The "dam" symbolizes the boundaries that we set upon our lives trying to control it. the water represents the "path" or time line of our lives.

The people break down their boundaries and begin floating down the waterway (their life) and no matter what effects them (rocks scraping their backs) they just keep floating in a setting that is very peaceful (on their backs bellies up to the clouds)

Especially near the end where the song metaphorically speaks of a person on a stage bowing and being happy knowing that they "did it well" (lived their life to the best of their ability.) No regrets and enjoying life for the adventure that it is no matter how hard it gets.

One of my all time favorite songs.
