KT Tunstall – If Only Lyrics 13 years ago
My best guess is that it's about estrangement. Trying to figure things out, wanting things to be better, but not being able to speak. Perhaps it's about longing to just be given the chance to be honest and show that things have changed, that it could be better now.

Norah Jones – Above Ground Lyrics 15 years ago
I think that the song is fairly straightforward. She wants someone, but she's too nervous to actually approach this person, although she does have hope that she will someday. She keeps longing to go above ground and finally be with this person, she just needs to work her way up to it.

My favorite line is "pour the night into a glass/can I sip it slow and make it last?" It's a beautiful way of describing going out for a drink with someone and hoping it doesn't end. This is my favorite song of hers.

Missy Higgins – Warm Whispers Lyrics 15 years ago
I think this song is probably about romantic longing. I understand the idea of it being about death, which would make it a sort of sequel to "The Sound of White", but I'm fairly certain that song was about a man (she said it was about her cousin when I saw her in concert, and she used male pronouns), and she definitely mentions a she in the song (btw, she's bisexual, not gay, and she doesn't much like being mislabeled according to her afterellen.com interview). Anyway, it seems like she's very much in love with a person that, for whatever reason, is not there at the moment. Whatever she's feeling is clearly very passionate, but the repetition of "you're gone, you're gone, you're gone" suggests that something is keeping her from this girl.

Also, if you want to play the song placement game (which doesn't always mean anything, but it can), it comes right after "Secret," which is about being madly in love with someone who isn't out and having to keep the relationship on the low. It could be about the same person.

Adele – Hometown Glory Lyrics 16 years ago
"Breathe Me" is my favorite song, and I see how this song can be compared to that in terms of how the strings and piano affect the song. Beyond that, though, I think they're very different. If I had to compare her to other artists, I'd say this song by Adele sounds like a blend of Sia and Amy Winehouse in terms of instrumentals (which are Sia-esque) and vocal tone (which is Winehouse-esque). I still think comparing her to either artist is selling her short, as she is clearly in her own element.

I'll agree that this song is about her appreciation for her hometown. She looks at the city not in terms of location or geography, but rather the people she cares about and the memories she has. Regardless of where she's specifically singing about, it's a song that resonates to anyone's hometown. People who love their hometown do so not just because they were born there, but because of the people. Those people aren't just the wonders of an individual's world, but the wonders of the whole world, as they are the wonders of every individual's world. The song does a very good job of speaking to both the personal feelings of the singer and the general feelings of the public. It's beautiful.

Sia – Little Black Sandals Lyrics 16 years ago
This song is so beautiful and full of soul. It's really just gorgeous.

It sounds as if she's finally found the strentgh to leave a truly abusive situation. Even though she's been hurt, she's in the state where part of her does want to go back, but now she has the ability to fight that urge and free herself from all the pain and trouble of the relationship. Now she can start to rebuild herself.

Lupe Fiasco – Daydreamin' Lyrics 17 years ago
I think the song is about the reality of living in the hood vs what they show you on tv. The first verse talks all about this neighborhood he lives in, with crackheads and drivebys and all sorts of other dangerous things. The second verse describes the rap video scenario, where rappers try to glamorize hood life by showing naked women and blinged-out weapons while still being thug. He knows that's not the right life, even though he was involved in it before ("I had to turn my back on what got you paid/I couldn't see, had the hood on me like Abu Ghraib"). He's acknowledging his life in the hood, I think.
