Death Cab for Cutie – We Looked Like Giants Lyrics 10 years ago
Transatlanticism Demos has recently been released, and some of the lyrics were different in this demo version:

God bless the daylight, the sugary smell of springtime
Remembering when you were mine
In 1994

When every Thursday I'd brave those mountain passes
And you'd skip your early classes
And we'd learn how our bodies work

God damn the black night with all its foul temptation
I’ve become what I always hated
When I was with you then

We looked like giants in the back of my grey subcompact
Fumbling to make contact
As your parents slept inside

And from this floor I can see through your window next door
He’s strumming a tune on the toy guitar I gave to you
You throw your head back, so overcome with laughter

Do you remember the J.A.M.C.?
And reading aloud from magazines
I don't know about you but I swear on my name they could smell it on me
I've never been that good at secrets
No...

And from this floor I can see through your window next door
He’s strumming a tune on the toy guitar I gave to you
You throw your head back, so overcome with laughter
So overcome with laughter
So overcome with laughter
So overcome with laughter

--
To me, the demo version paints a clearer image than the original.
God bless the daylight when he can't see into the window next door. God damn the dark night when all he can do is realize what he's become and see the happiness in the window next door. Something that he used to be part of. So beautiful and depressing.

A Fine Frenzy – Near To You Lyrics 16 years ago
I feel that Metalsandman999's 2nd post is dead on. Since she sings "I'm better new to you" and "You are wonderful" so many times...repeating over and over throughout the song, it seems as if she is trying to convince herself. Like if she repeats it enough, it will be true. Probably wondering why it's so hard to get over such a dysfunctional relationship when she has something good in front of her, even though she might not totally want it.

World Party – Is It Like Today? Lyrics 17 years ago
Sheryl Crow has performed this, but it is originally done by World Party. Both versions are quite nice. :)

This song, to me, is about humanity over time. Over the centuries, the questions are still the same. Why are we here? What are we doing? What purpose do we have? How could it come to this?

Fuel – Hemorrhage (In My Hands) Lyrics 17 years ago
I believe this song picks up at some point after a breakup.

In verse one, the girl returns and the guy has no idea why she's back. "Look, there's my heart on the floor ripped to pieces...how did you think I'd be doing after you broke my heart? Why do you keep coming back? It only opens those same wounds again..."

In verse two, he realizes the girl has only come back because she needs comfort and not because she wants him.

I think the dude ultimately realizes that he's better off dealing with the horrible pain and loss of the relationship then taking her back for the wrong reasons and rehashing the old pain over and over.

Keane – Atlantic Lyrics 17 years ago
I really enjoy the "ocean wind" feel to the beginning of the song. I just picture the Atlantic with strong winds, dark skies, high waves.

But then the song changes in the middle...what does this signal? And the ending leaves me with an unresolved feeling... a new beginning...we'll see what that holds for us.

Beck – Scarecrow Lyrics 17 years ago
I DO hear that the vocals sound a touch like Jim Morrison.

I also think the music has a bit of Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean" in it.
