The Smiths – How Soon Is Now? Lyrics 12 years ago
Everyone's reading far too much into the whole homosexuality thing. My take on it is this:

- You're unconfident, socially awkward (i.e. 'shyness that is criminally vulgar') and aren't from some massively rich background or anything that might otherwise compensate
- You vent your frustration at the fact you're still single and lonely but your friends condescendingly tell you that it's because of your attitude, but even if they might be right, you don't want to hear it because you know you deserve to be loved; to you it's a basic right
- People seem to hook up with other people at bars and clubs etc, so you go there but you feel awkward, intimidated and/or alienated and as you see everyone else making out and enjoying themselves, you go home and feel utter despair (or some variant on that scenario)
- Friends say "oh don't worry, you're bound to find someone" but after all these years still, nothing, and it feels like all hope is lost

I don't think confidence correlates with class. Poverty might make you feel aggrieved, but not unconfident.

Van Halen – Love Walks In Lyrics 12 years ago
It's definitely about falling in love for the first time (perhaps losing one's virginity as Zepfreak suggested) or finding real love that's far more genuine than any previous relationship.

You've gotta be scraping the barrel to say it's about religion. Matt4444 is the most feasible interpretation.

Imogen Heap – Hide and Seek Lyrics 16 years ago
I agree with nyx's interpretation. It's just not very imaginative to assume every song is about love. Of course it could be about someone the person depends on (lover, parent, sibling) committing suicide and not considering the big gaping hole that'd leave in her life.

A great tune, possibly the best vocoder solo song there is :P Amazing choice of chord extensions and all...

Death – Out Of Touch Lyrics 17 years ago
I think it's commenting on how some people have to be all scary, extreme, controversial and so forth, just to cover up for their inadequacies, though I don't know who he was talking about, could have been those with an extreme political opinion, a band's marketing tactics or just outlook on life.

On the other side though, it has a second meaning for me too. It seems a lot of 'normal' people think that people are only into 'extreme' music to compensate for some inadequacy.

Freak Kitchen – My New Haircut Lyrics 17 years ago
A stab at image-centric bands always going through the same stupid cliche's, I reckon.

Big Black – Kerosene Lyrics 17 years ago
Possibly one of the scariest songs ever written, both musically and lyrically. It's about getting so bored in a nothing town that you end up getting up to no good, just to entertain yourself. I never ended up doing stuff like that myself but I lived in a boring down and a lot of people just started on you cos it was something to do.

Forefather – Proud to be Proud Lyrics 17 years ago
To me it's about the importance of Anglo-Saxon pride to the band, despite the fact that in today's society, strong national pride can be considered a taboo, yet the disapproval just makes them feel more strongly about their heritage.

Extreme – Mutha (Don't Wanna Go to School Today) Lyrics 18 years ago
Yeah it's pretty clear, a kid deciding he'll play truant today because the same shit always happens at school.

This is my favourite song of all time, by my favourite band ever. The guitar rules all the way through, but what I love the most is the key change at the end Gary Cherone rings out "MUTHAAAAA" whilst the band sing the chorus words as normal...and the nanana's during the fade, which people normally hate but they really work at the end.

Extreme – Peacemaker Die Lyrics 18 years ago
I think I remember in an interview I read that they were basically saying that any person who tries to preach peace (e.g. Martin Luther King) seems to get killed.

Extreme – Little Girls Lyrics 18 years ago
Basically saying "Okay I've got the hots for a girl, nobody else can change that, so what if I go to hell"

"LITTLE GIRL
Come out and play
I got some candy
For my baby
It's your sweet
Sixteenth birthday
Celebration"

Nice innuendo...
