beth is gay? i have not heard that anyway, real sweet song. not exactly sure what it means, but there is a certain tenderness to it. The title/first line always made me think about the fire of passion in a relationship. I was trying to think of good slow-dance songs for my older brother's wedding and this came to mind...though I'm not sure how appropriate it is. beth's voice is amazing, as always. I'm surprised it's not more ragged from the smoking. |

SWEET TUNE this song reminds me of the time i went to mexico. dancin' at bars til 4 in the mornin'...*sigh* those were the days on our last night in Puerto Vallarta, my friends and I hit a massive bar called Collage and...well, I had been getting pretty friendly with one girl throughout the week...we made out a few times. But this other dude that she had been hanging out with at her resort was hitting on her as well. my 3 wingmen were all trying to get with this one chick and they all took off at some point, leaving me, this girl, her friend, the other dude and some other miscellanious people...presumably the dudes friends...anyway...we were all sitting around this table and she was right across from me, beside the other dude. it was past four in the morning and there was nobody on the dance floor...the place was emptying out. This song came on. I had been hearing the song fairly regularily at clubs and seen the extremely hot video and had grown to like it. Immediately I got up and gestured to the object of my affections and she got up and we went over to the stairs right beside the dance floor (she was too embarrassed to go out in the middle of the empty dance floor...damn woman. I shoulda dragged her ass out there. it woulda been even cooler) and danced our last dance of that awesome time in mehico. Yeah, good times. peace |

one night, I was on the bus and feeling kinda blah...I had just purchased blur's 'best of' and I popped it in my discman. I had only heard a handful of the songs on it, not even half. by the time it hit track 9...this song...i knew it had been more than a worthwhile purchase. The song seemed instantly familiar, and I had the strangest feeling of déja...entendu, i guess? I swear I must've heard it in junior high sometime and just totally forgot about it, whilst it lurked in my subconcious....anyway, as the song wound its 7 and a half minute course, i found my spirits lifted. Def one of my fav OLP songs. I dont think anything they've made since this has struck as hard... I am also quite surprised at the lack of comments. you guys all seem to have some pretty good theories about this song...I never really analyzed it closely until now, but it always seemed to be a pretty sad song to me. This might seem a bit like reaching but I kinda think it could be about someone whos body is being replaced with mechanical parts and 'enhanced' and the song is basically the bodys message to its owner Well it's good to know that you'll be okay -the body is happy that its owner will continue to live I've been waiting for this And I'll be there to sit while you pray -all the body does while someone is praying is sit there...the mind is doing the praying...also it kinda says that all our bodies can do is go along with what we tell them No one's blaming me -nobody can blame their body for whatever damage it receives from following the minds orders I'm not supposed to wait When they open up your heart The life that we share -the body and mind share the same life I know that I'll be lost but we're always in repair -eventually, the body will be totally gone, replaced by machine parts, but it accepts this And it's good to know that you'll drive away From this car crash nightmare And I'll be there to help you again -whatever accidents and hurts befall the person, the body knows they will prevail because of the 'enhancements' and it will continue to help the person, cuz like I said, thats all it can do...everyones body has basically the same mission: to serve and protect the precious brain Take this time to figure it out, know the wire, the fuse, the things that you doubt. The wheels, the air, the metal, the mouth, its something...something...SOMETHING.. -even though it has no choice but to become obselete and replaced, the body is trying to offer somewhat of a warning...that there's something fundamentaly wrong with this person becoming this machine-like being...the person has some doubts in the back of his/her mind, and the body is making a last ditch effort to save their humanity. I think the 'lock the door' part plays into this warning. the body is advising the mind to 'lock the door' on thoughts of more enhancements and to put a stop to the downward spiral. anyway, yeah, thats pretty much my theory... and that mumbling part towards the end...I've always been curious to know what the man (robot?) is saying. all I can make out is: just...a little lower breathe... heaven... right at the beginning...the rest is too garbled to make sense of... anybody out there know? |

I quite like this song. Not terribly sure what it's about...could be drugs...could be cuttin' herself...or just general depression...not so much the anorexia, methinks. the "breathe me" part makes me think of two people holding eachother so close, with theyre heads resting in the curve of the others neck, and when they are breathing they're basically inhaling eachothers scent...and they smell really really good. yknow what Im talking about.
