Oh my god! Finally I have unraveled this mystery that has been bothering me since I first heard it! The line about the love affair, it's "Oh (or old) Carl and Ann had a love affair..." Carl Sagan was actually responsible for the contents that went on the gold record that was attached to the Voyager spacecraft, and his wife was Ann Druyan who also wrote about his work and helped with his show "Cosmos". It's a bit of a stretch but that's my best guess. And the husband-wife thing would make the "love affair" line make sense. |

I tried to listen to the "love affair" line over and over and I still am stumped, like you. But I believe that the line "Oh girl this moves like a meteor shower" is actually "Oh a gold disk moves like a meteor shower", referring to the gold record that is mounted on the Voyager probe. And the second unknown word is "coating" I believe, so it's "Even with my coating of insulation", I suppose referring to the way he hides his emotions maybe? And the last stanza is "No, I can't say no. I won't say no. I can't say no. I can't let go..." But good job on the rest, and thanks! I just submitted the lyrics for Miranda but there is one or two words/lines that I just cannot manage to decipher, so maybe you could help me out on that one. |

I actually thought the second line was "Wish I knew love like lovers do" until I looked here, but they both get the meaning across. I haven't heard any of Nina Gordon's other work but I fell in love with her voice in this song. It's gorgeous, and the little guitar bends at the beginning of each line really give this song a nice kind of sorrowful mood (as if the lyrics didn't enough.) To me this song is basically what everyone else has been saying... boy loves girl, girl doesn't reciprocate (at least to the level that the boy does or wants her to). I can really relate to this, as I'm sure a lot of people can. Beautiful song. |
