Death in Vegas – Dirt Lyrics 15 years ago
In most American releases, the sample is censored, which is why it makes little sense. What you're hearing is, "...flinch, you'll get a fucking gun butt to the gut." I'm not sure where that sample comes from, though.

T'pau – Heart And Soul Lyrics 18 years ago
Carol Decker, the lead singer, said she thought this song did well in the US because it was the birthplace of rap, and the 'spoken' elements of the song are her version of a rap.
'China in your Hands' is the song that topped the charts on the UK side of the pond.

The lyrics above are probably from the CD liner, which was printed with lyrics from an earlier version of the song. As such, they don't match the song as recorded. On the other hand, considering there are two layers of lyrics going on, it might be somewhat difficult to actually write down these lyrics.

This song seems to suggest a 'just friends' type of relationship. She's really in love with a man who is oblivious to it. She still hopes he will one day actually show some love (heart and soul).

Enigma – Callas Went Away Lyrics 18 years ago
Maria Callas (1923 December 2 – 1977 September 16) was an American-born Greek soprano and perhaps the best-known opera singer of the post-World War II period. When she passed away, she went away, but because her voice has been recorded, it will forever stay.

...and yet there's a sample of John Elway throwing a touchdown pass in a PWEI song. I wonder how many people in their home country know who he is? :)

Liam Lynch – United States Of Whatever Lyrics 18 years ago
The song is sort of a spinoff of the Sifl and Olly show from MTV. The Wikipedia entry for Sifl and Olly has this to say:
Olly (voiced by Liam Lynch) originally performed the song in response to Sifl bringing several of Olly's ex-girlfriends to the show so they could make fun of him.
Zafo, meanwhile, is as a rock musician idolized by Sifl and Olly, who speaks in electric guitar distortions.

The Dead Milkmen – Punk Rock Girl Lyrics 18 years ago
Wikipedia says, "Minnie Pearl was the stage name of Sarah Ophelia Colley Cannon (October 25, 1912 – March 4, 1996). She was a country comedienne who appeared frequently on the Grand Ole Opry, and on the television show Hee Haw from 1970 to 1991. She was known for wearing a big hat with a price tag ($1.98) hanging off the side."

Of Mojo Nixon it says, "(born Neill Kirby McMillan, Jr., August 2, 1957 in Chapel Hill, North Carolina) is a satirical psychobilly musician known for his boisterousness, his often scathing critiques of pop culture and his libertarian political views."

Finally, Philly Pizza Company appears to be a restaurant on South Street in Philladelphia. I'm not sure what bearing it has on anything, though.

Warren Zevon – Keep Me in Your Heart Lyrics 18 years ago
"Shadows are fallin' and I'm runnin' out of breath"
The disease that Warren died from, Pleural Mesothelioma, is a lung cancer usually caused by exposure to asbestos. If left untreated, the cancer quickly expands throughout the chest cavity, eventually crushing aside the lungs and other organs.
It is horribly similar to being slowly suffocated over a period of months.

This song is about the final 'acceptance' stage of dying. As he is suffering through his final breaths, he asks the people he loves to remember him fondly. He tells them he still loves them, but staying alive is becoming too difficult. Soon he will run out of steam, and the wheels will quit turning.

My father recently passed away from his own pleural mesothelioma. If this song tears at your heart, I beg you to donate a couple bucks to marf.org in Warren's name, and maybe we can save another family from this horror.

Finally, Warren's son Jordan sang live at MARF's last symposium. Warren would have been proud.

The "your brother" samples are all from the original Woodstock concert. Wavy Gravy spoke these lines from the stage.

The "What's that spell?" sample is also from Woodstock. It is Country Joe McDonald and the crowd.

Poe – Center Of The Sun Lyrics 18 years ago
This song should actually be under the aegis of either Conjure One or Delerium. Poe was a guest artist on one of the Front 242 spin-off bands.

Fatboy Slim – Right Here, Right Now Lyrics 18 years ago
The sample is from the 1995 movie Strange Days. Mace, played by Angela Basset, says,

"This is your life, right here, right now! It's real-time, you hear me, real time! Time to get real, not playback. You understand me?"

Fatboy Slim – Wonderful Night Lyrics 18 years ago
I believe this line should be:
Our style's fuckin’ posh like Dave Beckham c'mon

David Beckham is a famous European footballer (soccer?). His wife, Victora, is otherwise known as Posh Spice from the Spice Girls. Ergo, Dave Beckham is fucking Posh.
