Yeah flinchy17 and dukeface are exactly right, he's saying how the worst suffering possible on this earth isn't a good enough price to be with God. Having a full life of suffering and pain to be with God is a 'Bargain' VERY, VERY powerful song, one of the best ever |

Most of my songs are | about the idea that there is salvation, and that there is a Savior. | But I won't mention his name in a song just to get a cheap play." so basically, he's praying, 'just like yesturday', once again, nothing has changed, he's still the same man, even though the world thinks that everything has changed I think the line "won't get fooled again" is either 1. Pete joking how society thinks that this is the end of revolutions, insulting their old ways, sort of how america is constantly talking about how bad segregation was, and that something like that will never happen again. Guess what? It will 2. another theory is that the whole chorus is Pete playing the role of a Revolutionist, he's happy with the change, without realizing it, hes praying and playing guitar like before the revolution, and saying how the old ways will never happen again, like I said above, except from the viewpoint of the accual revolutionist |

First poster is stupid, The Who's TOMMY was the very first real rock opera, which was made into a move the same year QUADROPHENIA the album was released ('75) , the QUAD movie wasnt released till '79 The movie, while very good, did not fully depict Townshend's idea of this amazing story of Jimmy the Mod, I believe it can only be properly depicted through the music. ANYWAYS....about the song....I'm pretty sure its simply Jimmy on hallucinogens riding the train to somewhere, he eventually ends up at a boatyard, I can't assume that the train take him directly there, very possible though. But yeah, its about what Jimmy sees while hes on the train. |
