Wye Oak – Civilian Lyrics | 8 years ago |
These words and tune move me like no other. But the way she orchestrates it all together, when she sings, socks me in the face with feeling. I sympathize with her and I know exactly what she means. We are civilians, caught in the crossfire of this battleground we were born into, and we are not falling behind, we are unarmed. I can't face myself on a daily basis, I know that I must lie in order to keep moving forward. Because I don't know how to face myself, so this is what I have. I've fallen behind but too much, and now I feel just a civilian. I still am acting from these baby fears and the past that I cannot undo, did I have say over, and, while I never look at, I can't ever rid myself of. I don't need another friend when most of them I can barely keep up with them. I'm perfectly able to hold my own hand, but I do wish I had someone, sometimes... I wanted to give you everything, to give, to give back immaculate and be all consuming, all loving, all powerful but I watch myself consumed in these daily superficial things, I watch myself fall away in an endless daze and my succession of failed attempts at my burial, transfiguration, cleansing and renewal. I'm still waiting for the day that I'm good on my word and can keep up with this field. Until then a part of me will always feel a civilian. |
Trevor Hall – Where's the Love Lyrics | 11 years ago |
No comments because self-explanatory!!! This is a beautiful song, full of life!!! Let's listen to all the voices that come in the name of God!!! |
Yuna – Live Your Life Lyrics | 11 years ago |
Thanks for the lyrics. First time listening I kept hearing "and hope for something more than 'if you really want to' " This makes more sense :) |
Joy Division – Atmosphere Lyrics | 11 years ago |

The Devil Makes Three – Help Yourself Lyrics | 11 years ago |
Can we please try to unravel this one? |
The Tallest Man on Earth – Like the Wheel Lyrics | 11 years ago |
Amazing, beautiful song. The chorus hit me with the melody immediately, and his voice of course. Love the line about the whisper in the forest. |
Bob Dylan – As I Went Out One Morning Lyrics | 11 years ago |
To me, and after listening to the Wovenhand cover of it, this song is about wanting something, or someone, not for good reasons, but basically for lust itself. In those situations you don't have that person's best interest in mind, and it isn't exactly natural either, that person is just an object of desire in which you can boost your own credit or so you can feel better. I tend to think of it like this: We are all vessels that often feel empty so we are often looking for things to fill us; ultimately what we need and want is love, some of us start out having more of this than others. But we fill with all sorts of wishes and wants, and when these things that we've been feeding on let us down, when frail humans us included fail us, we become jaded, cynical, and really hurt. And we don't want to put "hope" in those things again. And we fail to see the beauty or believe in much again. And this, my friends, repeats itself many seasons over until we get so desperate that something beautiful happens. |
16 Horsepower – Outlaw Song Lyrics | 11 years ago |
the general feeling is "woah." |

It's fascists, not fast. |
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club – Devil's Waitin' Lyrics | 13 years ago |
why does everyone here ignore all the jesus/devil references? like it has no meaning? this band knows and has turned their back and songs like these are the by-product. definitely ain't glorifying to God, yet... hey hey, black rebel motorcycle club, don't let the mushrooms throw you off the path like they did me. so you know the spiritual world is real now. look into the past and context of shamanic plants and you'll realize a thing or two about the nature of them, there is a reality behind them that is more real than what you perceive while on them. |
Bob Dylan – I Dreamed I Saw St. Augustine Lyrics | 13 years ago |
actually look at the song and not what you want it to be. just because in the song st. augustine says "there are no martyrs among ye now" does not in any way conclude or even point to dylan believing he was martyred, it simply makes a statement about the message st. augustine declared. you've absolutely no grounds for anything in your comment except your own love of dylan's music coupled with unwillingness to reconcile with his apparent guilt towards God. this song speaks loudly for itself and evidently you're among those who aren't listening. |
Regina Spektor – Blue Lips Lyrics | 14 years ago |
an atmosphere of despair permeates throughout this song... |
Regina Spektor – Blue Lips Lyrics | 14 years ago |
BLUE LIPS: DEATH BLUE VEINS: LIFE Blue, the color of our planet from far, far away "He took a step but then felt tired He said "I'll rest a little while" But when he tried to walk again, He wasn't a child" This song is about death, the loss of innocence (faith) faith juxtaposed in two contexts: Life and Death innocence (child-like, pure) and corruption (religion) |
Regina Spektor – Carbon Monoxide Lyrics | 14 years ago |
hm, seems I have a completely different take on it then most 'carbon monoxide, soon we'll go to sleep' i take this to mean, well, we'll be asleep, alive but dead, this is unawareness, "sleep-walking through waking life" - this is what carbon monoxide signifies. all that puts us to sleep, all that keeps us from truly Living each moment 'if i don't got my socks on right... they slide right off of my feet..' this is a lovely metaphor for not taking care of what you should... not re-affirming the things you learn (so as to forget and eventually neglect them) ... I'm asleep as I take you home and then when eventually I do 'get my socks on right' I didn't have my gas mask on... there are so many things to be careful of to avoid falling asleep, once one thing is done another still causes the end of it an ode to how difficult life is. I'm so cool, I'm so cool, I'm so cool (c'mon, everyone knows pride very well, the pride we just can't seem to shed, that we cling on to for dear life) Come on, Daddy!! this I take to mean God, our heavely Father... come on, daddy... come ON, DADDY! when is this going to end? how long are you going to watch? will you save me? will you help me? when can I feel your love? |
Radiohead – 15 Step Lyrics | 14 years ago |

Minipop – hey you (come on) Lyrics | 14 years ago |

Ingrid Michaelson – Soldier Lyrics | 14 years ago |

The Doors – People Are Strange Lyrics | 14 years ago |

Incubus – Psychopsilocybin Lyrics | 14 years ago |
ANYONE WHO HAS NOT DONE SHROOMS CANNOT COMMENT ON THIS SONG, unless they think it rocks. to just disregard shrooms as 'drugs' and 'bad' is just plain ignorant. for many it is medicine. learn the difference between mind expanding and mood enhancing. |
The Jakes – Cough Syrup Lyrics | 15 years ago |
well i have been madly in love with this song for quite a bit, it's my favorite right now. cough syrup, DXM, taken in high doses... trips you the fuck out. it's a dissociative, and i would describe it as softly speaking 'i don't care' into a psychedelic... for a lack of better words. it takes you away from your sense of self, far away from whatever troubles you faced. at high doses it is used solely for shamanic self exploration purposes. i think these lyrics are straightforward. beautiful. |
The Strokes – Last Nite Lyrics | 15 years ago |
i like it, interpreted very well. |
Nirvana – On a Plain Lyrics | 15 years ago |
kurt turned his ramblings into a song. and it sold. because he did it well. he had a gift for integrating lyrics into music really well. |
Rilo Kiley – We'll Never Sleep (God Knows We'll Try) Lyrics | 15 years ago |
i never thought of it as uppers but now i see it pretty clearly. whats great is how this song can be interpreted in completely different ways and it works. as a song. |

i agree completely. feeling powerless, when you know enough to know it's wrong and to know what's wrong but not enough to fix it. everything around you. this is a great song. |
Oceanlab – Lonely Girl Lyrics | 15 years ago |
This song describes exactly what it's like to have a mutual connection at a rave.. morning comes and the night is over. it's beautiful, the lyrics, voice, and sounds. my favorite song on the album. |
Erlend Øye – The Black Keys Work Lyrics | 16 years ago |
lovemaking. sweet and soft. |
Cold War Kids – Hospital Beds Lyrics | 16 years ago |
This song can have many interpretations but i choose to not be so literal. there's nothing to do here, tell me the story of how you ended up here i've got one friend i did not choose him he did not choose me we've got no chance of recovery joy and misery pain and suffering, rehabilitation, friendship there's nothing to do here.. just whine and complain |
Metric – Grow Up and Blow Away Lyrics | 17 years ago |
thank you grubsmack, i was a little confused no one said anything about the wrong lyrics in earlier comments |
Metric – Empty Lyrics | 17 years ago |
how has anyone not noticed that the best part of the lyrics on wrong on here? it's WHEN THERES NO WAY OUT, not THERE WAS NO WAY OUT when there's no way out, the only way out is to give in that's the best part of the song. |
Cat Power – The Greatest Lyrics | 17 years ago |

Cat Power – I Found a Reason (Velvet Underground cover) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
today (it's 2:22 AM) so yesterday, i guess (but really today), is my birthday. 11/10. i listened to cat power for the first time because i knew they were good, i just never listened to them yet. also i heard the first couple lines of i found a reason. so i downloaded that song and a few others. and then i just saw v for vendetta. and the second time V played music, i listened closely to see if it would be the same song as the first time he played. and it sounded familiar, so for the first second i thought it was, until i recognized it. wow! |
Snow Patrol – Hands Open Lyrics | 17 years ago |
spence189, that's like me creating a crappy band (i'm not saying snow patrol is crappy, but..) and then i name drop his name and MISPRONOUNCE IT. YOU DON'T MISPRONOUNCE IT. |
Zero 7 – In The Waiting Line Lyrics | 17 years ago |
so many people walk around every day half asleep. i do. everyone can relate to this song some time. |
Morrissey – I Have Forgiven Jesus Lyrics | 17 years ago |
this is a beautiful song. no one should be trying to figure out what this song means to morrissey, especially if they are delving into his nonexistant or existant homosexuality. no one knows if he lusts after men or not besides him, so why don't you stop ruining this beautiful song for other people with your fascination with homosexuality. |
Chris Garneau – Not Nice Lyrics | 17 years ago |
