Thrice – Stand And Feel Your Worth Lyrics 18 years ago
This is a sweet song and one that I believe is overlooked on Vheissu. Regardless of religious affiliation this song promotes a fantastic message to anyone who hears it. "Stand and Feel your Worth, oh my soul, kneel and know the word...". Awesome!
However if one has to argue a clean cut meaning behind the lyrics, I would have to agree with Tossed Dwarf (nice work on the actual Vheissu review man, I read it on the boards..I'd give it 10/10 as well (and Red Sky=12/10)).

I agree with Tossed Dwarf, its a good reference to start from. However I think the song also delves into the imperfections of life on earth, suggesting that "one day all of our scars will disappear, all of our pain will fade away" later on we see "on that day all the scales will swing to set all the wrongs to right, until that day, all of our scars will still remain". This could be alluding to the second coming of Christ as well, but that is totally hypothesis. I'm pretty sure that the song is a message, like all of Thrice's songs, to a far greater audience that just Christians reminding us of the importance of loving through building "bridges to another's heart". Go Thrice.

Very fair comment dude. I try not to hit the "biblical reference" note too much unless its patently obvious..which it not always is with Thrice's subtle use of metaphors and imagery. Vheissu is a classic example of this as it often insinuates imortant moral values whether Christian or not e.g. "Stand and feel your worth, oh my soul.."/"Hold fast Hope!" promotes a great message regardless of its base (theological or not). So I guess I'm agreeing that we shouldn't automatically hit the Bible button if a line has a morally positive note to it, though some times it is too painstakingly obvious, as in the song "Like Moths to flame".

Interesting point..coming back to my last post, I want to reiterate how bad it is to write a band off on the basis of an apparently flimsy song (I.M.O.T.I)
Having listened extensivly to Vheissu recently I have to say it is one of the best, check out some of the articles and reviews that have been written on it!
Finally, listen to it. It is amazing.

Yeh dude, that sounds right, it is just another sweet song by Thrice. Vheissu is getting to be almost my favourite album. The song is similar to CCCH in that it mocks our materialist culture. Possible biblical reference to not storing up "treasures on earth" and "we live in but shadow of the real", just pontification but it could also be further condemnation of our materialist society.
THRICE OWN!

I agree completely, it is a fantastic song. The lyrics meld beautifully with the melody and typical of many Thrice songs, it has a theological feel to it.
We are not alone, a comforting thought to Christians such as myself. Finishing note of "Stand ready and tall and reflect the light" is pretty darn cool.

You make an interesting point Fade to Flashes, its just a pity it's utterly unjustified. This is one song on an album as Kraig so rightly pointed out, if you doubt Thrice, go listen to the entire Illusion of Safety album both as quality music and thought provoking lyrics. Artist in the Ambulance and Identity Crisis albums are in the same vein. I agree that this song is lacking in both areas though, but wait for the album to come out until you start slamming Thrice.

You would have to be blind to miss the enormous amount of Christian symbolism poured into this song. Dustin is an absolute genius, and every song from Thrice is thought provoking and uniquely brilliant, I can't wait until I get my copy of Vheissu.
I agree completely with gifis. Good job mate, you pretty much picked it clean. the references to "old friend", "tombstone", "500" (people that saw Jesus after the resurrection), "friend you must still walk amongst us, in places we don't tend to glance" (refering to faith in Christ, belief in the unseen), "killing Aristotle" I fully agree and advocate the idea that this refers to Faith defying reason in substantiation of belief in God, "your love was...this violence in the name of love" this has to refer to the suffering Jesus took upon himself in the name of love. This is my opinion but it seems pretty clear to me, Dustin being a Christian is another supporting factor to my rhetoric.
