Placebo – Without You I'm Nothing Lyrics
|
It's about love, pure and simple. Deep, passionate love that leaves one feeling incapacitated; completely hopeless without the other. It's about watching that love breaking down and feeling powerless to stop it. To the protagonist, the only recourse is to plead complete dependence, regardless of how abusive and rotten the relationship has become. Without it, they are nothing. |

Say scream
You scream
I scream
We scream
We all scream for ice cream.
This IS what this song means to me. |

In Flames – Dead End Lyrics

This is about man's continued abuse of his environment in spite of the fact that it appears to be lashing back. |

In Flames – Jester Script Transfigured Lyrics
| 18 years ago
|
Thematically, this is in keeping with the rest of Whoracle (and the Jester race) for that matter; it is about humanity bringing doom upon itself. Specifically it is about individuals becoming cogs in 'the machine' and losing your humanity. Stellar song. It makes me want to have Jesper's babies...
'We´ve only seen the outlines of the beginning
and this core, the slowly moving raptor
will make the very notion of Hell
seem celestial in comparison' |

Amorphis – Elegy Lyrics

Clearly it is about the loss of a loved one. Sourced and translated from the Kanteletar (a book of traditional Finnish poetry) and set to the most mournfully beautiful music imaginable. Breath-taking. |

In Flames – Coerced Coexistence Lyrics
|
This is about difficulty co-existing with the world in general. It's about knowing you're right, but also knowing how painful it is to be on the outside. 'I'm selling my soul today' - an obvious nod to the conformity necessary to exist in this world. |

In Flames – Suburban Me Lyrics
|
This is almost addresses a messiah complex that most well-meaning people can have in their life, thinking 'I CAN change the world on my own', then living in frustration at being unable to achieve this goal or even live up to their ideals. It's also about wanting to be truly free as you believe you should be (the pilgrim that is me) but finally acknowledging that the 'suburban me' is the only you that you will ever be allowed to be. |

In Flames – Reroute To Remain Lyrics
|
Reroute to Remain - the title says it all. Financially speaking In Flames were having a lot of difficulties up until this album - the band literally needed to 'Reroute to Remain'. The song also address feeling artistically released (after wandering these circles for years) and allowing broader influences (read: non-metal) to bleed further into IF's sound. |

In Flames – Bullet Ride Lyrics
|
This is about depression and desperation, feeling at the end of your rope and searching for a way out. Like a soul that wants to live, and is frantically try to find a reason to. Strangely though among this darkness there is a beam of light - 'the world is waiting on your arrival' - ie, whatever it is you want to do or be; GO FOR IT, DON'T LET THE DARKNESS BIND YOU! |

In Flames – Cloud Connected Lyrics
|
This song I feel is directed at certain sections of the metal underground, who bitch about In Flames' evolution from the melodic death metal sound, ie, the types who scream 'sellout' at the slightest change in direction.
In every little glimpse, these people fade in the eyes of In Flames because these people are fading into obscurity (living in their dream world) by trying to be 'tr00, kvlt and underground' instead of just being, after all, being kvlt is no way to have a music career that you actually get paid for, whereas In Flames have been 'Cloud Connected' and achieved that goal. |

In Flames – Clayman Lyrics
|
I believe this song is about being brought up with society's values and standards, falling into depression at being unable to live that way and ultimately realising that it was always bullshit - that you are free to shape your own life, your own self - 'I'm the sculpture made out of clay'. |
