This song is about Nico. The references to the bells and the gown are taken from Velvet Underground lyrics (Venus in Furs and All Tomorrow's Parties). Nico slept with a lot of men, and I guess Leonard Cohen was one of them. Either that, or he NEARLY slept with her (you're faithful to the better man, like you would do for one you love, etc.) This is just a really beautiful song. |

Sorry if this has been said, but I think the Piper bit refers to the album 'The Piper At the Gates Of Dawn' in which Syd played and integral role, as he wrote (or co-wrote) all the tracks on it apart from Take Up Thy Stethoscope (If i spelled that right I'm surprised, I can't SAY it) and Walk. That was Roger Waters I think. Ummm this is without a doubt my favourite song of all time, I'm going to see Pink Floyd next Saturday in Hyde Park. Never been so excited. :D |

Weezday, that is an ingenious obsevation. Would have taken me YEARS to work that out. It is a damn good album though. I like this and I like Denial Twist. And Forever for Her etc. I put GBMS on then listened to their first album, he sounds so young in comparison. Bless. |
