Harvey Danger – Wrecking Ball Lyrics 19 years ago
I really don't think this is about a gambling debt.

This seems to be about getting over your past... or thinking about it in general.

Maybe reflecting on where you are from in this world... where you are going?

Maybe something else entirely.

Really I feel that Harvey Danger's songs have some of the most insightful, interesting, and obscure lyrics of any of the bands I am familiar with.

The Smashing Pumpkins – The Everlasting Gaze Lyrics 19 years ago
There is a thought that god is made of our consciousness and that together we are god and god is us... both one and all at once.

This song, when heard in this context, somewhat connects with this idea.

"I'm just living in my head."

If god were saying he was not dead, he was just living in someone's head, then god would be referring to himself... that god was made up of one and many. Everyone is god. God is the manifestation of consciousnesses and conciousnesses are resultant from god.

It is all very hard for humans to understand.

Or maybe someone he cared about did?

Do you think he had an addiction? Billy is relatively on top of things as far as I'm aware.

The Smashing Pumpkins – Real Love Lyrics 19 years ago
Really read this part:

"in the eyes, behold and you'll find the 21st century
detonate her will and her widowed speech
buried in the backyard shadow, the rusty coffee tin
that held her mother's first kiss in a nameless dream
fall down the stairs again
to feel alive against tomorrow"

There is a lot in it.

I really don't want to reply to the last commentor but I must...

I saw one of the last live shows they ever played and it was AMAZING. I have no idea by what standards you judge live shows, but I think you're opinion is way off.

The rest of your post is rambly and incoherent so i can't reply to that part.

Mare means horse... but I don't think this song is about a horse.

I think this song has more to do with something Billy Corgan knew about the world that he couldn't come out and say openly... so he is communicating with us through his music. This song really didn't mean much to me until I listened to it again today and I caught this part: "yeah, we've got a master plan
yeah, we're an american band for you

'cause when you're hypnotized
'cause when you're hypnotized
they'll spin you gold and paint you black
with the blood of your surprise"

It all made sense... and suddenly the song became very chilling and ominous. it was as if Billy had tried us all something a long time ago. The significance of the song being played on television for their last TV performance is easily explained when the song is taken in this context. The inclusion of it on the non-commercial release called Machina II: Friends and Enemies of Modern Music is also more apparently purposeful. Billy even threw in lyrics to throw people who might be looking for this off.

You've gotta understand... he wrote that into the song as a main lyric.

"yeah, nobody understands
yeah, that we've made our plans
yeah, we're tearin' it down for you
for you"

Nobody understands. We've made our plans. We're tearing it down for you.

Tearing what down?

Many of you are probably accustomed to entertainers being mostly fluff, but if any of you are truly appreciative of Billy Corgan you will leave room in your thoughts for the possibility that he may play a grander part than just as a simple rocker from Chicago.
