Chumbawamba – Jacob's Ladder (Not In My Name) Lyrics

This is waht i heard it was abut. Supposedly it is about some sailors that got capsized during wwII somewhere on the coast of Norway....They managed to get a SOS out...but the english navy decided to ignore it because they were attempting to smuggle out the Norway royalty, and they didn't want ot draw attention...so they let the sailors drown. Definetly a commentary on class |

this is my favorite song off the new album.
to me it is about a guy losing his job and the bills are starting to pile up. He starts to think about suicide, but he is too afraid to do it. |

i see this about hope in people, like no matter how bad things are, there is a better way, and i particular see it as pointing to religion. |

the music video really takes the title of the song to the extreme, warped. What a weird, almost surreal movie, but a bitchin' song. |

Red Hot Chili Peppers – Dani California Lyrics

Excellent song. I can't wait for may 9 to experience the 24 other great songs. This song refers to Dani California, a girl first refered to in the song 'Californication' ('Teenage Bride with a baby inside, getting high on information'), then realized on 'By the Way'. What a great song. I can't wait |

Billy Bragg and Wilco – Way Over Yonder In The Minor Key Lyrics

I can't believe nobody has commented on such a kick-ass song. Woody Guthrie rocks and so does wilco. Not so much Billy Bragg. I do have to wonder how this song would have sounded like if Bob Dylan had found this song instead of Billy Bragg. |

This is probably my favorite doors song, even if it isn't their best song. It is soooo hard to choose just one best doors song. |

Johnny Cash – The Mercy Seat (Nick Cave cover) Lyrics
| 18 years ago

I can't believe no one has commented on this song yet. kudos to nick cave for writing a kick-ass song, but the music just doesn't match the lyrics. That is why I love Johnny cash's later albums. He takes obscure songs, songs that nobody would ever think that he could change, and he does change it, and for the better. Johnny's version is infinitely times better. So much more emotion. I actually feel sympathy for this convict. And the last line has to qualify as one of the best last lines ever in all of music |

Billy is such a talented lyricist. I seriously believe that he is the best living lyricist. His music is also awesome. He knows how to tear on your heartstrings. This song is sooo good, it just grabs the listener, and doesn't let them go. I love this song |

I don't get the line: "Ooh, what a fool I must have been
We saw red, not green, when we were nineteen
Now something's different"
What does that mean? Ted leo rocks, and so does this song |

David Bowie – Space Oddity Lyrics

This song was recently showcased on an episode of Without a Trace. This episode was all about the alienation of the boss, Jack, as he tries to track down his "dad". It eventually leads to Jacks attempted suicide. This song really helps create that feeling of loneliness and isolation. |

Ted Leo and the Pharmacists – Me and Mia Lyrics
| 18 years ago

I loved this song, and the music video is interesting in applying to the food disorder theory. In the first verse, it is just the band singing in a room. The camera is way zoomed in on the band. During the first chorus, the camera zooms out and shows that they are in a room that has windows for a wall which is facing the street. The band is seperated from the "real world" by a glass wall. Then during the second chorus , the camera zooms out even more to show that the room the band is playing is on the second floor of a building. On the first floor, there is a ....wait for it... a pizza parlor. Traffic and people are zooming by as the band performs. And right as he says "get up and be it" the third time, ted takes off his guitar and he walks down to the parlor. Then it does something really weird. It cuts back and forth between the pizza parlor and the room the band is in, where ted leo is buying pizza and playing guitar, respectively, at the same time. The last shot of the music video shows ted eating what looks to be a salad. I am to lazy as of now to analyze the movie, but I think it is pretty solid proof to the food disorder theory. You can see the movie at music.yahoo.com. |

U2 – All Along the Watchtower (Bob Dylan cover) Lyrics

i don't. I think everyone is entitled to their opinion. This song is excellent and to be covered by so many artists only proves its excellence. I think Jimi's version is the best, but that is only my OPINION. DMB version is great (just about the only song of theirs i like), U2 is good (i don't like that extra verse), and grateful dead's version is ok. |

what an excellent song, even though the live version is much better on the DVD "Don't Look Back." On the DVD it is much faster, which sounds so much better. I hear the live version first, then the studio second, and i thing the studio doesn't compare to the live one. |

just because it was played in Full Metal Jacket(excellent movie) doesn't mean that the song is about the war. Hell, Stanley Kuprick played Going to the Chapel during that movie, doesn't mean the song is about the war. |

Pearl Jam – Pilate Lyrics
|
Pilate wasn't a jail guard, he was the roman ruler of the area of jerusalem during the time of christ. His name was Pontius Pilate, and he was not jewish. When the chief priests and elders of the law brough Jesus to Pilate, he found no reason to crucify him, so he sent him to Herod, the Jewish king of the day. Herod just wanted Jesus to perform some miracle, but Jesus did nothing, so Herod sent Jesus back to Pilate. Pilate then appealed to the crowd, offering to either free barabbas (a serial killer, and all-around crazy guy) or Jesus, but the crowd wanted barabbas. So Pilate washed his hands of Jesus' death, and handed him over to be crucified.
I don't know if that has anything to do with this song, but at least you now have your story straight. |

Modest Mouse – The View Lyrics

I love this song. Even though this sounds the least like a Modest Mouse song, it is a great one. I think it is about how people always are wanting something better. No matter what they have, they always want what their 'neighbor' has. |
