Imogen Heap – Bad Body Double Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I love the way this song explores the idea of having a side of yourself that you hate. I also love the resolve she has to do away with it! Inspiring and relatable! Love her new album xo |
of Montreal – Triphallus, to Punctuate! Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I love the attitude of this line, and there is also a small correction I'd like to add: "You should call me sometime. I won't answer, but at least I'll know you care." "How will you know it was me?" "What do you think, I ain't got caller ID?" |
of Montreal – Du Og Meg Lyrics | 15 years ago |
The instrumental interludes of horn or whatever they are just so positive and full of life. I think their cadence represents the celebration of the triumph of true love. |
of Montreal – Death Isn't a Parallel Move Lyrics | 15 years ago |
My guess is that it isn't about the foreign hosts being teachers, media etc. Kevin Barnes has stated himself that he has alter egos to write songs, so I assume that maybe after he's written a song or lived in the mind of that alternate personality, he feels like a ghost afterwards because all of his "thoughts come from a foreign host." |

That's just my interpretation though :) |
Gregory and the Hawk – Ghost Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I think it's: "I held you back but then you ran" not, "I had you back but then you an" also, these aren't the complete lyrics. |
Gregory and the Hawk – Stone Wall, Stone Fence Lyrics | 15 years ago |
There are a few corrections that I would like to make to your lyrics: Big open land You hold the weight of the air in your hands Big open air You feel the tickle of the trees on your chest And why did you go and waste it? The things that you know are making you a stone wall, stone fence Your story's so old you just tend to keep them Long winding road You got a secret, but you won't share it Big open land you hold the weight of the air in your hands Big open air you feel the tickle of the trees on your chest And why did you go and waste it? The things that you know are making you a stone wall, stone fence Your story's so old you just tend to keep them Long winding road You got a secret, but you won't share it ---- To me, this song is about creating a wall to keep people out in order to prevent yourself from getting hurt. But in doing so, you end up pushing people away and perpetuating your isolation. It's like a self-fulfilling prophecy for desertion and hopelessness. |
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club – Open Invitation Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I think it is: "On and on I've been waiting on the open invitation" Not "all along". Just FYI. |
Kings of Leon – Cold Desert Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I knew there was something special about this song the first time I listened to the album, and I think Caleb sums it up perfectly in the youtube interview: "That's not a b-side. That's a moment. That's honest." The final, "Nobody but me" is so raw and heartfelt. I think everyone can relate to sometimes not feeling like a good person, feeling cold and self-hating. I think that's what this song is about. "Cold Desert" is by far the best, most genuine song of the entire album, especially amidst the pop-rock tunes meant to be played in front of 20,000 fans. |
The National – Slow Show Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Someone who broke my heart once sent me this song to tell me how much they still cared, and I disregarded the song and I turned them away. It's one of those situations where you can't win. If you choose to trust them and let them love you, they will inevitably let you down as they have before. If you are strong and don't let them in, you continue to miss them horribly for the rest of your life. Everyone has that one. The one that can make you feel these kind of things. Profound misery and pain, but at the same time, a kind of love that is only found once on this Earth. There is no solution. |
Brand New – Jesus Christ Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I think this song is about the fear of what is good in this world, and people that are afraid to be happy. I think he is referring to someone in his life that is trying to save him (hence the comparison to Jesus), but he is scared of being happy and scared of what this person is offering him, so he has his wood and nails and plans to crucify his saviour because he is afraid of being saved. |
Moneen – Accidents Are On Purpose Lyrics | 18 years ago |
This song has taken on an entirely different meaning to me since I found out that my boyfriend cheated on me. Not only did he cheat, he didn't use protection, and now he has an STD. I just think this song is ironic, and I hope that "You're next sir" being called from the waiting room is a CRUEL TAUNT to him. *BOYS, BE GOOD TO THE GIRLS WHO LOVE YOU* |
Death Cab for Cutie – The New Year Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Has anyone else noticed the bird-like wooing that is present at the start and end of a lot of DCFC songs?!? I was just curious as to what other people thought the meaning of this was. I figure if it is a dove, it's love and/or peace...If it's a nightingale, maybe twilight, death etc... It also kind of sounds like an old, creaky swing-set...in that case it would be a feeling of abandonment and loneliness?? --help me out, maybe I'm the only lunatic that notices these sorts of things!! |
Guster – Two at a Time Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I love how Guster doesn't always write about sappy feelings, and how they're heart broken about some broad...I mean, it takes a pretty talented band to turn the story of Noah's ark into a pretty damn good song!! lovin the gust...peace |
Elliott Smith – I Better Be Quiet Now Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Has anyone else noticed that Elliott adds some military jargon into some of his songs??? There's the reference to "an army man with an order just to march in my place" and, "The reflection in the water showed and iron man still trying to salute, people from a time he was everything he was supposed to be." From Everything Means Nothing to Me. Clearly, I listen to Elliott too much to pick up on these things, but I think there are more references to being a washed up army man in other songs as well. Maybe he's using it as a metaphor for his life being more or less a war that he's tired of fighting. |
Phish – Bathtub Gin Lyrics | 19 years ago |
It takes a special kind of person to appreciate a song like this...props to all of us who love the simplicity of original music...and props to PHISH |
Phish – Gotta Jibboo Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I love this song, I have no idea what Jibboo means, but that's the beauty of Phish. I truly think our generation is a bunch of hippie wannabes...these songs are soo chill, and so pointless, but they are beautiful all the same....Peace&Love to those who love Phish! |
Elliott Smith – Needle in the Hay Lyrics | 19 years ago |
When I first heard this song, I heard the lyrics differently, and I thought that instead the lyrics were "Your hand on his arm, his daddy charm around your neck" so I began to think that this was about discovering things about people who you look up to and trust (like your father) and as you get older, start to realize that they aren't perfect, and that they are really messed up like the rest of the world. "You say you know what he did, but you idiot kid, and you don't have a clue".. So the kid picks up a heroine addiction to deal with the despair of the world...lol I don't know....but my explanation would fit into this songs usage in The Royal Tennenbaums..if only those were the true lyrics..haha |
Guster – Rainy Day Lyrics | 19 years ago |
This song is about the hopelessness after having your heart broken by someone who you thought was the most amazing person in the world, and about how you will never have anything quite as good again. It's about accepting your loss, but still perpetuating the way you feel, because you can't let go. |
Elliott Smith – Pitseleh Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Can someone please explain to me why the whole world isn't in love with Elliott Smith??? I can't imagine my life without his incredibly moving and emotional songs. This song in particular just has such amazing vocals and chords...like seriously...Elliott is the most brilliant song-writer, vocalist, guitarist of our generation. He is deep, genuine, and most of all, REAL. |
Elliott Smith – Say Yes Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Say Yes is one of the most amazing Elliott songs there are, it never gets old. It's about a guy who's fucked up (but then again, what guy isn't?), and he is starting to regain his faith in the world by seeing it through a girl whose vision is untainted by depression and hopelessness...He left her when things were getting good because he was afraid of being happy...but now he realizes that being sad sucks, and that he should let love in and give happiness a chance. |
