Matthew Dear – Gem Lyrics

First sentence decent. Sunrise is a good description. As far as your plug after that. Take that crap someplace else.
I think this song is very profound. It's imagery is simple but powerful. I feel as if the subject had to let someone go against every emotion they had. Feeling as if they were holding the other back from a better life whether they realized it at the time they parted ways or not.
Looking at this song with his delivery of the lyrics and the music around them, there seems to be a state of acceptance about the situation in his voice. A fond remembrance of someone while imagining what great things they other may be doing, while understanding his state and his inability to change anything. I see a certain comfort in the idea that he did the right thing for the other person.
At his core he wishes that they could end up back together but recognizes anything he would have done would have pushed them further apart leaving him with only a steadfast hope that someday she will return to him and they can begin anew together.
I feel the sounds and tone of music in the song fits well with the cycle of his lyrics. Both parts leave and open ended invitation and hint at the serenity they might experience moving through life together. That is if she comes back to him wiser and sharing the same views of whats important and "real" as he does... |

Hot Chip – Brothers Lyrics

I feel this is a great way to express the way you view a good friend as almost like having this unbreakable, brother like bond. Just complete comfort, trust and lack of any sort of competition. I think the end has bit of longing for a time when they got to be around each other before other things started pulling them apart possibly. Theres a fondness about it though, like a warm memory. |

this girl was smarter than television scripts
this girl wasn't damaged her jeans were just ripped
"this girl was the girl that the girls in your world thought about"
when the night was cold

post apocalyptic is a good guess. makes me think of the onset of nuclear fallout . . or given the nature and feel of this album it could be about an unseen change in a relationship. here you are flying high feeling in control of the world. then this event happens that changes you and you slowly start to realize what things are really going to be like now, and how different things will be. these thoughts seem to enfold you and just slowly cover you as if they came out of no wheres . . thats what im getting out of this. |

True love is something that comes easy
Just one kiss god I swear I want to...
I heard a pen drop and a nervous heartbeat
Have you ever heard me scream I love you . .
i think it says pin instead of pen, that is the more common saying, pen doesnt really fit all that well, am i missing this?

seems like although his life has taken him elsewhere his heart and mind remain in a place he can't and doesn't want to forget, and he seems to have no reservations with it, although he says he will never be over it, it seems to comfort him that it will always be there.
this one stings. |

without wanting to read 8 pages of comments, anyone notice the line "I will block the door like a goalie tending the net In the third quarter of a tied-game rivalry" well . . if hes fighting so hard in the 3rd "quarter" i would think this would be a hockey game which only has 3 periods, quarter would be something that has 4 parts and he wouldnt have to fight that hard for one more quarter . . right?? or im i just missing something here? |

Death Cab for Cutie – What Sarah Said Lyrics

After losing both close family members and close friends in the last few years, this idea of this song really has deep meaning to me. I never really knew a way to put it, but you really do have to love someone, to watch them pass. It is one of the hardest thing you will have to do in your life, but you catch yourself remembering the past you had with that person, and the reason that your there that day becomes the love you have for them and it takes everything you have to be there and watch the end.
He nailed it when he finishes with "so who's gonna watch you die?" I have myself walked away from those situations wondering who would be at my bedside, who loves me enough to be there for me? It can really make you appreciate your good friends and family.
Think about that . . |

I still remember the first time I saw you . .
From where I stood you looked like an angel,
So I didn't move until you walked out the door . .
theres not a person alive that doesnt know that feeling and remember a time when it happened or at least the feeling they got from it.
amazing song. i love the list of places this could happen.
i really like it flips and they admire each other from a distance. at first listen i didnt expect that.
love it |

i love this song, such a good, reminiscent feel to it, reminds me of childhood and a first crush, also during childhood. i get the picture of his doing these things during his childhood and then going to see his first crush, and wanting to feel that excitement and thrill of seeing that first love/crush again, and missing that part of himself. kinda like he outgrew it and hasnt felt it since and he wants to return to it. |

Dave Matthews Band – Stolen Away on 55th and 3rd Lyrics

i get a feeling theres a strong sense of anguish in his voice, about a love that should have been in his mind . . but never could bring himself to move towards on the notion that he would mess things up and loss her completely, then after years seeing her again, and finding it all feels the same and he still wants to tell her all the things he never did, i get the picture of him talking to her but only saying a few things while the rest of the lines in this song run through his head over and over again. at least to me, the lyrics in this song, and the pain in his voice and affection in his voice tell that story |

Dave Matthews Band – Stolen Away on 55th and 3rd Lyrics

This song makes me think of someone looking back on a past relationship with someone who they were completely taken with and infatuated with since the first time he set his eyes on her, I also feel there is an undertone where she possibility felt the same but the two of them never did anything about it because they were afraid of what might come of it, if it were to go sour. So instead of moving to the next step they stayed silent where they were until it became to painful for him to be around her and he walked away from her, and contact started to slip. Now he has seen her again and I think he’s battling with the emotions that have came about from their encounter. After a long time of not seeing her and forcing her to the back of his mind for his sanity’s sake she back and all the same feelings are back (Hello again, Seem like forever between now and then, You look the same, I mean you look different but you haven’t changed” but she has clearly moved on and he’s not sure how to approach this converstation and meeting. I believe that shows in the line “Never thought I would see you again, How have you been? Watchin’ the years as they trickle away”
I feel as if this brought back a part of his life he looks fondly upon but also didn’t mind keeping dormant in the distant parts of his mind, to avoid the anguish you hear in his voice when he talks about this subject.
Amazing song, amazing vocal, powerful content. |

They produce yet another song with their usual grace and intuitiveness. It never ceases amazes me on both Jimmy Tamborello, and Ben Giddard’s parts how Jimmy can produce perfect music to match Gibbard’s upbeat sound on even the darkest deepest most serious of his lyrics. I own a few thousand cds and have over 5000 tracks in my digital collection. I am an iTunes music store addict and in all my musical exploration I have yet to see a collaboration and feels and sounds so effortless. To me it comes across as an flawless mesh of two distinct musical styles. And they have done it again. Every song amazes me. This song I find lyrically pleasing in the aspect of meeting or finding, or maybe even the moment you realize . . wow this could be it. This person could be my new beginning. I also like the sense of complete comfort he portrays with the line: “But I could not recall, a more perfect fall, cause when I looked up into your eyes it didn't hurt at all.” This is the type of song that would put you to sleep and cause you to have pleasant dreams the entire night. |

John Mayer – Split Screen Sadness Lyrics

To Clarify my post i do not believe this song is about a Lovers relationship ending. I believe its a friendship long gone because they never pushed to the point where they became that kind or level of relationship. the wish that it had been more, and the pain cause it never was. and the "all i need is love is a lie" line. he doesnt need love, he just needs her in his life. somehow, someway just involved with his life. its the only way he will every really be happy. (sorry left this out on the last post) although this post is a bit discordant and quiet less poetic. |

John Mayer – Split Screen Sadness Lyrics

i can tell you, i truly believe that this song, is about the pain he feels because of a releationship that never was, and should have been. he knows with all his heart that it should have happened, and because they were both heasatant weather its due to pure timidness or the fear of losing one another if it were to depredate their friendship. they have lost out on something that will now haunt the both of them everytime they close their eyes, forever. dreams full of "what ifs". this spilt screen is a picture his mind has created to bring comfort to himself. it helps him to believe that she longs for him as badly has he for her. he wishes he could bring himself to find her and make ammends or right his wrongs but the same forces that kept them apart are now aplimified by a distance barrier and the fact that it probably came to a hault. the hault due to i believe being too hard for one or both of them to keep masquerading as friends when they both long for so much more. ex. line " And it stings when it nobody's fault, Cause there's nothing to blame . ." i feel he is more the cause of the final decent, and that this is his realization that it will now never happen because they have let things slip too far away and too deep into that past. i find this song to be almost a regretful wish . . but maybe thats just me, i could be wrong. maybe he misses a dog he lost as a child on a family vacation. who knows . . |

The Postal Service – We Will Become Silhouettes Lyrics

This song seems to be made to lighten its subject. This song is about a Nuclear Holocaust. It is refering to being to close to the explosion and the fact that the intesity of the light will burn your imange into whatever may be behind you/under you. From the second you hear/read the lyrics for this song it is completely apparent that they are toying with the lighter side of way and maybe hinting at us to stop worring . . if it is going to happen, its going to happen. At least some part of us will be left someplace, even if it is just our nuclear shadow . . |
