The Cars – My Best Friend's Girl Lyrics 16 years ago
"here she comes again"

his best friend's girl is multiply orgasmic, that's the "real suprise" "every new boy that she meets" doesn't know

many of ric ocasek's songs contain convoluted sexual innuendo

The Wallflowers – One Headlight Lyrics 16 years ago
The girl dying is a metaphor for the death of ideas, ideals, and beliefs.

submissions
Head East – Never Been any Reason Lyrics 16 years ago
This song is about trying to break up with an addiction.

Rihanna – SOS Lyrics 17 years ago
Talentless. Shitty voice. The music of her song is sampled from another song. She didn't even write her own fucking lyrics.

Rihanna – SOS Lyrics 17 years ago
Holy crap this song sucks. Make it stop.

Gwen Stefani – Cool Lyrics 17 years ago
The only decent song on Love. Angel. Music. Baby.

Badfinger – No Matter What Lyrics 18 years ago
razajac is right, the line is "Knock down the old GREY wall"

submissions
James Blunt – You're Beautiful Lyrics 18 years ago
I like the music and the lyrics, but this guy's voice is pathetic and the song has turned into teenage-girl-pop-trite.

submissions
T. Rex – Get It On (Bang A Gong) Lyrics 18 years ago
This was T-Rex's only hit in the US, despite their success in the UK. I like this version better than the Power Station version.

submissions
Genesis – That's All Lyrics 18 years ago
One of the few songs where I don't mind Phil Collins voice.

submissions
Wings – Band On The Run Lyrics 18 years ago
This song comments on how many bands of this time period shared a feeling that they were "on the run" because members of bands were frequently getting busted.

submissions
Styx – Come Sail Away Lyrics 18 years ago
I think this song is just about reflecting on the good times of the past to motivate yourself to move on with your life.

submissions
Rush – Tom Sawyer Lyrics 18 years ago
Rush is a great and underrated band, but a lot of you seem to missing the fact that they are a "Progressive" Rock band. That explains why their lyrics are really out there and their use of synthesizers in the early 70's.

submissions
Eagles – I Can't Tell You Why Lyrics 18 years ago
Oddly, I think this song uses a drum machine.

submissions
Van Halen – Jump! Lyrics 18 years ago
It's ironic how, even though VH is a rock band, they scored their biggest hit by laying down the guitars and using a synthesizer as the lead instrument. Not that it's a bad thing....

Wham! – Careless Whisper Lyrics 18 years ago
This song was originally a Wham song, and it was actually co-written by Andrew Ridgley (the other half of the band). But since record companies wanted to push for a solo career for George Michael, the song was credited to "Wham! Featuring George Michael."

Also, the guy who did the sax solo is Steve Gregory.

submissions
Eagles – The Long Run Lyrics 18 years ago
On the outside it does seem that this song is about a guy and a girl. That's what I thought at first.

But the song was really written about the long-term friendship between Don Henley and Glen Frey. Weird, huh?

submissions
Lynyrd Skynyrd – Free Bird Lyrics 18 years ago
People think that this song is a tribute to Duane Allman because Synyrd used to dedicate it to him at concerts. It was originally written as a simple song about a guy who is breaking up with a girl.

submissions
Blondie – The Tide Is High Lyrics 18 years ago
Stoolhardy hit the nail on the head with the meaning.

This song was originally written by a Jamaican guy in the 30's. The original chorus line was "I'm not the kind of bloke who give up just like that!"

submissions
Rod Stewart – Da Ya Think I'm Sexy? Lyrics 18 years ago
Controversy came over this song when some stupid people only listened to the chorus and thought that Rod Stewart was talking about himself. If you analyze the lyrics, you'll see it's told in the third-person, about OTHER people.

submissions
Foreigner – Double Vision Lyrics 18 years ago
This song is about partying hard and drinking so much your vision becomes blurry.

submissions
Foreigner – Waiting For A Girl Like You Lyrics 18 years ago
Thomas Dolby played synthesizers on this track.

submissions
Electric Light Orchestra – Mr. Blue Sky Lyrics 18 years ago
Jeff Lynne wrote this after being stuck in a mountain cabin during a long stint of stormy weather. When the rain cleared, he went out to see a beautiful blue day.

Also, the Live Version performed on ELO's Zoom Tour was used in the Volkswagen commercials.

Queen – You're My Best Friend Lyrics 18 years ago
Some Yahoo commercials used this

Queen – Bohemian Rhapsody Lyrics 18 years ago
Oh and this is how I see the song:

Beginning - The kid admits to his mother that he murdered someone. He repents and accepts his fate.

Middle - This is the trial. The jury and officials are arguing with each other, with the main guy in the middle of it.

Near End - The kid gets angry with the court about how they show no mercy for him.

End - He finally sees that he can't do anything about it, realizes that his passing won't mean much, and he accepts it.

Queen – Bohemian Rhapsody Lyrics 18 years ago
I love this song, but it's waaaaaaay to overrated. Kind of like what "Yellow Submarine" is to The Beatles. It's the only song all the kiddies associate with the band.

submissions
Queen – Radio Ga Ga Lyrics 18 years ago
I hate to break it to you, but all of you are wrong. This song is actually supposed to be criticizing the radio. It was originally called "Radio Ca Ca", but censors wouldn't allow it, so they cahnged the named to "Radio Ga Ga." Such a simple change altered the whole meaning.

submissions
Madness – Our House Lyrics 18 years ago
On one of those "80's Collection CDs" informercials I actually saw this song listed as being by the Talking Heads. :p

submissions
Jamiroquai – Canned Heat Lyrics 18 years ago
This song is about a guy who is under a lot of stress, but he just decides, "Fuck it, I'm just gonna dance and have some fun."

Trio – Da Da Da Lyrics 18 years ago
The toy-ish sounding rhythm in the song is a preset from a Casio VL-Tone VL-1. It was a kid's synthesizer and calculator all in one.

You can find one on eBay, but due to their its vintage status, be prepared to pay $50 for one.

submissions
Blondie – Heart of Glass Lyrics 18 years ago
The song was originally called "Once I Had a Love" and it was a slower song. But it was changed to a Disco song, since that was popular.

"Once I Had a Love" is on the Blondie Platinum Collection.

submissions
Steve Miller Band – Abracadabra Lyrics 18 years ago
In the early 80's, the Classic Rock format began to become popular, and Steve Miller's older hits were revived.

However, Miller didn't realize this and wrote this this cheesey New Wave-esque song to get a hit, rather than sticking to his older stylings.

Abracadabra reached #1, and Stever Miller lost some fans for selling out and doing a musical style that was popular, but gained many more for it.

submissions
Chicago – If You Leave Me Now Lyrics 18 years ago
This song represents the second phase of Chicago, where Peter Ceteral used the band as a vehicle to launch his solo career and the band members were replaced with a bunch of people from Toto.

Regardless, I still like the song. Cetera wrote this about his wife, who wanted to divorce him.

A Flock of Seagulls – I Ran (So Far Away) Lyrics 18 years ago
The music video is hilariously bad and cheap.

The synthesizer that the lead singer is holding one key on is a Roland SH-09.

Rod Stewart – Young Turks Lyrics 18 years ago
One of the first 80's recordings to use the classic Linn LM-1 drum machine!

The Who – Eminence Front Lyrics 18 years ago
As others have said, this song is about people who hide behind their power/wealth and believe they are invincible.

Also, despite The Who NOT being a punk band, these lyrics are an example of what punk music should try to express. Unfortunately, punk music is all about kids turning up their guitars as loud as they can and screaming incoherently into their mics.

submissions
Dire Straits – Money For Nothing Lyrics 18 years ago
The song said through the point of view of some delivery guys that are jealous at all the young kids on MTV who made it big without doing any hard work.

"That little faggot with the earing and the makeup" refers to a band frontman that used earings and makeup, which could have basically been the leader of any 80's New Wave/Synth Pop group. I've heard that the "faggot" is either Michael Jackson or Prince.

Eagles – One Of These Nights Lyrics 18 years ago
The guy in the song is really horny and he's desperate for a slutty girl.

"The full moon is calling, the fever is high and the wicked wind whispers and moans, you got your demons, you got desires, well, I got a few of my own"
-He flat out states his eroticism.

"We're gonna find out pretty mama what turns on your lights"
-He's going to have sex with her in many different ways.

"I've been searching for the daughter of the devil himself"
-He wants a girl that will satisfy his dirty needs.

"I've been searching for an angel in white, I've been waiting for a woman whose a little of both."
-He wants a woman who acts as though she's innocent.

Raunchy song, but I still like it. :)
