Ten Years After – I'd Love to Change the World Lyrics | 1 year ago |
It's easy to point out all the bad things in the world. It's much harder to fix them. |
The Doors – The Soft Parade Lyrics | 1 year ago |
To me, The "soft parade" is the involuntary journey we humans make from birth to death, and all the ways we try to understand it, or distract ourselves from thinking about it. You can pray to God, but he won't answer. You can look for sanctuary, but there is no place to hide. You can sleep, travel, head for the hills or love your neighbor to distract you. No matter how hard you try to find permanence, all you get is a grave. Only the hills are successful. They stay forever. |
Billy Joel – Only The Good Die Young Lyrics | 1 year ago |
Young people who don't allow themselves any enjoyment by trying to live up to their parents' standards are dead in a sense. Youth is about making up your own mind. |
The Who – Tatoo Lyrics | 4 years ago |
Two brothers discuss all the childish ways you can determine if you are a man. Then go out and find the real way... by making your own decisions despite what others think. Especially your parents. |

Rush – Xanadu Lyrics | 11 years ago |
I think the song is about the importance of growth and change to happiness. I think the main character starts out believing that simply living forever will bring happiness. However he becomes "immortal" by being frozen in time without change. The monotony of it drives him mad and all he wants is for it to end. |

Elton John – Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Seems to me it's: Boy meets and helps girl with problem. Guy realizes too late he's fallen in love. Girl only likes him as friend and distances herself. Guy wants to keep her as friend and let her "wander free" so he won't lose her completely. |
10cc – I'm Not In Love Lyrics | 16 years ago |
You call her up? Check. You like to see her? Check. You keep her picture upon the wall? Check. You my friend, are in love. |
The Rolling Stones – Sympathy for the Devil Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I think the line "And I lay traps for troubadors who get killed before they reach Bombay" refers to the Thuggees in India. More can be found at the link below. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thuggee |
Paper Lace – Billy Don't Be A Hero Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I always thought Billy's fiancee was kind of selfish. He could either stay on the hillside and die, or try to save his friends. He saves his friends and gets killed in the attempt. So she washes her hands of him. He was probably better off. |
The Doors – Waiting For The Sun Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I wonder if the song isn't about Christianity. Morrison was into wordplay. He would have realized the word 'sun' when sung, would sound indistiguishable from 'son'. Could be a commentary on people who wait for Jesus to return and tell them what to do. |
The Motels – Suddenly Last Summer Lyrics | 18 years ago |
It seems to me to be about a brief summer romance, and though it ended quickly, the girl thinks about it often, so in a way, it never seems to end. |
Elvis Costello – Alison Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Is it possible he runs into her twice? The first time when he meets her she still seems conceited (she's "not impressed") and is still single: ("'cause I don't know if you've been loving somebody. I only know it isn't mine.") The second time she is married (unhappily) and worn-down by life: ("Well I see you've got a husband now.") and: ("I can't stand to see you this way.") Seems to me to be a song about a girl who is used to getting by on her looks when she is younger, but can no longer do that. A Haunting song. |
The Doors – Hyacinth House Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I think KWizzy is right about the song being about all the demands put on Jim Morrison at the time. He was certainly hounded by a lot of people who wanted something from him. On the other hand, he did record the vocals for the album in a bathroom because of the good acoustics. So the line might actually be literal. |
Talking Heads – Once In A Lifetime Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Seems to me he is saying we flow through life like water flows through the world. You aren't your wife, your car, your house. Your identity doesn't change, just like water is always water. Even if it's ice, steam, or a deep ocean current. You may be a husband, father, etc. at some point (once in a lifetime), but it is not who you really are. If you keep questioning things you will go crazy. Find your true identity within. |
