i mainly agree with what everyone else has said, that its about thoughts of suicide and self harm, but i think the last bit is about him empathising with the girl in his dreams, dreaming what shes been through, but then wking up and realising that everything is ok since hes with her and shes safe. |

I always thought about it as a very positive song, about standing up for yourself and your beliefs, and not following the crowd ("don't be a slave"), quite a popular theme in chilis songs... but now you mention it about the recovery from drugs, some of the lyrics do seem to point that way ("get it out your arms because its time to start fresh", "the fire in your brain")..... |

I love this song! It goes so well with Easy Target, even though they are so different in speed and stuff, the main tune is still the same...

I love Incubus lyrics - they're so beautiful, and they get the point across intelligently, which many bands cant even attempt. I mean where else would you find the lyrics "a bonafide rarity" or "a threefold utopian dream" (out of "I Miss You"). It seems to me to be about wanting to be as free and open with a person as you can, but being constrained by society and the views people have of you, so you have to go "outside" and find a place where noone judges what you do. |

definately one of the best off the "one by one" album (not their best, i have to say...) that sounds like a good idea (about death and all), but i thought the first verse was about drugs - where it goes

I doubt any of them are actually gay, but they dont really give a shit what people think about them that way... If you've seen the video for Warped theres that kiss between Anthony and (then guitarist) Dave Navarro, but theyre just comfortable in their own skins...
This is the first song I ever learnt to play on bass, and it makes me feel like theres hope for the world if someone can have such a crap experience and turn it into something positive. |

The last two people are Hillel Slovak and Jack Irons, so I always thought the first must be like a childhood nickname for Flea or something... Anthony and Flea have been friends for ages, so they probably have at least a couple of nicknames for each other.
