Blue Öyster Cult – Don't Fear The Reaper Lyrics 19 years ago
I do agree that the general message of the song is not to fear death. But I don't buy one second that at least part of it isn't about suicide. Come on!

"Romeo and Juliet
Are together in eternity... Romeo and Juliet.
40,000 men and women everyday... Like Romeo and Juliet. "
Romeo Juliet, two lovers that killed themselves in the end. And the tone of the song is almost as though it's from the point of view of a dead lover that's talking to his girlfriend/wife/lover that's still alive. If this song isn't at least partly about suicide then they are sending one hell of a mixed message. Even if they now say it isn't about that, I would bet that when it was written that the suicide theme was thought about at least once. Maybe it wasn't intentional but I don't see how anyone could read back those lyrics and not think some of it was about suicide.

Ashlee Simpson – Lala Lyrics 19 years ago
I admit I'm not an Ashlee Simpson fan. I don't have her album and I didn't care at all for the first two songs she released. But I have to confess this one is quite catchy. I wouldn't call it genius or amazing but it's an ok song. I wonder what her dad thinks about it though. The song is basically about kinky sex, at least that's the way it sounds to me.

Damien Rice – The Blower's Daughter Lyrics 19 years ago
I can't explain it but this song just mesmerizes me. Every time I hear, I stop what I'm doing and take in the words and music. It's so beautiful and powerful. Damien Rice is absolutely amazing.

Fleetwood Mac – Don't Stop Lyrics 19 years ago
I have to say this is probably one of my least favorite FM songs. Not that I dislike it but compared to most of their other work, "Don't Stop" falls behind in my opinion. FM has some great deep lyrics in almost all of their songs but in Don't Stop, the lyrics feel very manufactured and too general. I'm not saying it's a meaningless song, it obviously has a message. But overall the song feels like it was made simply as a throw-away crowd pleaser. Whether it was or not, who knows. Just my opinions.

Fleetwood Mac – Dreams Lyrics 19 years ago
"Like a heartbeat ... drives you mad ..." That part always gets to me for some reason. I love this song. Even though it's really not a happy song, it gives me a good feeling when I hear it.

Fleetwood Mac – Gold Dust Woman Lyrics 19 years ago
Actually Stevie said in an interview in the 70's that this song was about female groupies. I don't remember the direct quote, but it was about the girls who would hang around for the guys in the band and give Stevie and Christine dirty loooks. I would have never thought of groupies until I read that quote.

Tom Petty – Here Comes My Girl Lyrics 19 years ago
Probably my favorite song of all time. A really underrated IMO song from Tom. The sound is kind of bluesy but still rock. The meaning is pretty clear. It's facing the hardships of the world and then coming home to the one you love and realizing that none of it matters and being with this person makes it all worth it.

Stevie Nicks – Stop Draggin' My Heart Around Lyrics 19 years ago
One of my favorite songs. Tom Petty and Stevie Nicks are two of my favorite artists so I guess it's not wonder I love this song. I think the meaning is pretty obvious. Let me just say, Stevie Nick's voice has never sounded sexier than on this track. Honestly, she just sounds great. Tom Petty does too but Stevie really shines.

Stevie Nicks – Stand Back Lyrics 19 years ago
I read a theory a while back that this song was about Lindsey Buckingham being the only one who didn't try to stop Stevie from marrying Kim, I believe she and Lindsey weren't on speaking terms when she got married. And if you look at the lyrics it does kind of sound like she's say she wished he had stopped her from making a huge mistake and lines that could be applied to Buckingham. "First he took my heart then he ran", "Do not turn away my friend", "So I walked on down away from you", "Maybe your attention was more than I could do". And possible references to wishing he had made contact with her during this: "No one knows how I feel, what I say unless you read between my lines", "I did not hear from you", "No man calls my name", "No man came", "One man did not call". And of course "No one looked as I walked by" definitely fits the part of signifying a wedding, the bride walking down the isle and with everyone disapproving of the union in the first place, "No one looked." And "take me home" could be her wishing he had rescued her before the entire thing happened. All just speculation but Stevie and Lindsey write a lot about eachother so it wouldn't be surprising if this song was about him.

Stevie Nicks – Leather and Lace Lyrics 19 years ago
Such a beautiful song. And I'm not just saying that because I'm a huge Stevie Nicks fan. I really think this is just one of the greatest love songs. Although I think it's supposed to represent a woman who might be a bit on the emotional side and wears her heart on her sleeve and a man who isn't as open about his feelings and tries to be a "tough" guy, I think it can be applied to almost any relationship. After all I think the song comes down to just finding that special someone. A truly touching song. I think it would make a great song to be played at a wedding.

The Crystal Method – Murder (You Know It's Hard) Lyrics 20 years ago
Awesome song. And oddly enough, a great song to get you awake and ready. Though the lyrics are depressing, the beat and entire vibe is strangely upbeat. Ah, that's techno for ya. Anyway, like I said good song.

Better Than Ezra – Desperately Wanting Lyrics 20 years ago
I first heard this song a few years ago on the radio and the lyrics really just moved me. They are so sad. I had always thought it was either about a girl who had a drug overdose or one who was suffering from a mental illness. There is a lot of references of 'never having it right', 'never having a chance' so I was thinking maybe it was about a girl who went insane and is now in her own world and is no longer a part of this one. But I guess the drug overdose probably makes more sense.

The Cars – Drive Lyrics 20 years ago
This is one of the saddest songs ever to me. It always reminds me of being at the loneliest point in your life. To me it's being at a really horrible place in your life and on the verge of a breakdown and realizing that you're going to have to go through it alone and that there is no one there to help you. I think it's essentially about just being alone and having no one.

Lennon – My Beautiful Lyrics 20 years ago
I really love this song. I have become such a Lennon fan since hearing this. The version with Travis Meeks is really awesome as well.

To me this song is about that awkward period after a break-up. I think she's broken up with this guy and she wants for him to still be in her life but yet she's still healing from the break-up and it pains her to see him moving on. She misses everything they had but knows that the break-up was what was best. He's moving on and she's still stuck and she doesn't know where she fits into his life anymore now that they aren't together. So now I think she's at the point where she's wondering if she has to cut him off from her life completely in order to move on.

Anyway that's what I hear but I guess it's different for everyone.
