I can't help but smile as I pick out some of the people Manson's singing about right HERE.
As for the idea of the song being about mainstream hip-hop, I can see the connection there, as well... The chorus sums it up pretty damn well... I still don't understand why the mainstream media thinks it's cool for people to act like complete fuckin' retards, but these retards pay money for it, so I guess I can't blame them for capitalizing on other people's stupidity. I was thinking the same thing as Dando. Certain lines kind of gave me that impression. "Punch Up at a Wedding" kind of made me think of the US suddenly occupying Iraq. "You came here just to start a fight," kind of promotes that idea as well...
The line that stood out the most to me was, "I was there. It wasn't like that." Does anyone know if Thom's ever been to Iraq? After seeing that interview on TV between Saddam and...I forgot who it was, I got the impression that Iraq wasn't as hostile towards Americans coming into the country as believed, or as they are now due to our occupation of their country...
I dunno, that was just my idea. |

Esenthiel's right. This song is entirely about experiencing a lucid dream. All the lyrics refer to it. In short, lucid dreaming is when you realize, within your own dream, that you are dreaming. When that happens, you can literally take control of your own dream and do with it what you want. I've experienced a few of these myself, although I don't study it as much as most people. It's quite an interesting experience. Within a dream, you can literally do whatever you want. "The walls you built within come tumbling down and a new world will begin." |
