| like i've said before, i really dont think this song is about acceptance at all, the whole thing is really sarcastic. When he wrote it, I think kurt was trying to show what popular cliques are really all about; how they say one thing but mean another, and in order to join them, you have to change yourself to "as they want you to be". I think he was saying that they manipulate you into thinking you have free will but they are really trying to control you by making you trust them; "take your time, hurry up, the choice is yours, dont be late". they make you think you're making your own choice, but really you aren't, once you decide to join the trendy ppl. the line, "and I swear that I dont have a gun" to me just kind of shows that in a situation like that, you have to make the decision whether or not to trust their word, or go by your instincts. should I trust them and get "shot", or believe that they dont have a "gun"? whether that be a metaphor for backstabbing or rumors or whatever. Yeah, think of it this way: what are we listening to now? Music of the past, man. Since our era has so little to offer, we have to fulfill our musical uhh... desires I guess, with listenning to kick-ass rock of previous generations. What are we going to remember from decades down the road? Fuckin' Avril Lavigne and Linkin Park? Hell no! Real rock is what stays with you and lasts for years and years; shit that really matters and changed the face of music. I just think we are in a slump right now and who knows? maybe some new band will start a revolution and rock will be the earthshattering force it used to be, and maybe it wont. But until we know for sure, all we can do is continue to draw inspiration from the true, hardcore rock and roll that we all know and love, and drown out the cheap-ass commercialized pop rock bullshit that invades our stereos and calls itself "Rock".
