John Butler Trio – What You Want Lyrics 19 years ago
This whole cd is the tits, I'm so impressed and to think the only reason I even bought the cd was cause I was interested in the music for the upcoming bonnaroo and now I'm even more excited to see them there!! This song is my favorite on the album, the lyrics are unbelievable and his voice makes it that much more meaningful!

Warren Haynes – The Real Thing Lyrics 19 years ago
WOW!!! The first time I heard this song was when I saw the dead in the summer of 2004 when Warren was touring with them. I was so pissed when I first heard this song...It was Jerry's B-day and the boys were on definately playing a set dedicated to their fallen brother, and as an encore they played this! I was very upset at the time for the simple fact that they played a Warren Haynes song as an encore of a dead show...but I've been listening to this song a lot more and its beautiful! It's a surprise to me that no one has commented on this song. It's about someone who is the real thing, meaning that lives up to expectations and is plagued by the expectations...hence why "when you know you got it coming it ain't no crime!" This song was probably heavily influenced by the dead even tho Warren wasn't a huge fan of theirs but Jerry seems like an honorable person to apply to this song and it makes me understand why it was played as an encore that night!

Grateful Dead – The Music Never Stopped Lyrics 19 years ago
This song is jumpin, gotta love the refrence to Jehovah's favorite choir...This song is most likely referring to the dedication of dead heads across the world, where no matter what the music of the grateful dead will continue on forever through their fans...they come through your city and once you see them once its beyond discription and that one experience will have you hooked and make you never stop playing their music!

Led Zeppelin – Ramble On Lyrics 19 years ago
some interesting comments on this song...I personally agree with the references to LOTR but I was curious to know if anyone thought that maybe Sam's character was referenced in this song about the girl he found...cuz it was at mordor when he tells Frodo about the girl he wants to marry and that is also where Gollum bites off Frodo's finger and the line "my freedom I hold dear" could possibly be about Sam not wanting to be overtaken by the ring like what happened to Frodo...just something to throw out there I'm curious to hear responses to this!

String Cheese Incident – Ms. Brown's Teahouse Lyrics 19 years ago
One of my personal Cheese songs...this song is actually about a place in Jamaica that serves shrooms in the form of tea...called Ms Brown's Teahouse, Mushrooms seem to be a personal favorite of the Incident's as they are often referenced in many of their songs!

Grateful Dead – Box Of Rain Lyrics 19 years ago
Actually those who said this song was about Phil's father were correct...In Robert Hunter's lryic book entitled "Box of Rain" he goes on to say..."Phil Lesh wanted a song to sing to his dying father and had composed a piece complete with every vocal nuance but the words. If ever a lyric 'wrote itself,' this did-as fast as the pen would pull."

The Band – The Weight Lyrics 19 years ago
At first glimpse I would have agreed with Yarand21 about the biblical idea especiall with the reference to Mrs Moses and Luke.

I've been listenin to this song a lot closer lately though and it sounds like they are trying to cope with the loss of someone. Each verse they are doing something to help someone cope with death. Wether its keeping some one company, feeding their dog or something of that nature. Hence leaving the weight or burden on someone who was very close. Now it appears to be the narrators time to go cuz hes at Nazeruth and in the last verse he talks about his time. He seems to be worried about leaving the weight on Fanny now, most likely a loved one.

I'm not completey sure but I guess its something

I'd like to see some more ideas on this song, perhaps now it'll become bigger since its on TV now!

Bob Dylan – All Along the Watchtower Lyrics 19 years ago
I've read in many places this song is about government. The Thief and Joker represent the middle and lower classes, they stand over looking the castle (the upper class). They know that the upper class takes advantage of everything and looks down upon these two men. There must be some way out of here represents the struggle that these men put forward to break the cycle at hand. It all leads up to them standing outside the castle trying to figure out how to bring them down. But their is no reason to get excited cuz we don't know what they do in the end but we know this is not their fate!

Grateful Dead – Looks Like Rain Lyrics 19 years ago
I once read that in an interview Bob Weir noted that the songs opening chords are G-A-D-E-C Minor. Gadec Minor was the name of a girl Bob new well in Progue up until the Russians invaded Czeckoslovakia forcing him to leave the girl behind. Don't know if this is a 100% true but I love the imagery used by Barlow. The Dead were best to have some of the best story tellers between Barlow and Hunter to work with!!

Moe. – Plane Crash Lyrics 19 years ago
Plane Crash is how the guys summarize how they toured. Rob is a pussy and can't fly so they were forced to tour by R/V and like mobladimoblada said sedation is a good way to make a long trip seem to fly by. This years moe.down ended on Sunday night with a Plane Crash opener and ended the second set of Sunday with plane crash. go get all the sets from Moe.down 5 its so worth it!!

Moe. – Timmy Tucker Lyrics 19 years ago
Timmy Tucker is about a passed out kid with a Nitros Balloon at one of moe.'s shows. They use to play a lot in buffalo at a crazy bar called smokin Joes a place where you could buy drugs over the bar, find some guns, and the shitter wasn't safe and one night there their was a Nitros tank and one of the crew members walked out back to take a piss between sets and they saw that kid and his name was Timmy Tucker...Al mentioned this at moe.down this year

Dave Matthews Band – All Along the Watchtower (Bob Dylan cover) Lyrics 20 years ago
this song is about social class...the joker and thief represent the middle class and the lower class. They have come to the point where the realize that their being fucked over by "man"...the song talks about stealing their money, drinking their wine and not knowing "its worth" to someone who truly appreciates life for what it is...the problem is that they don't know what to do about this and they are sitting outside of the watchtower and don't know how to change things...quite simplistic really

and a comment on the on going arguement of whos cover is better...any one who respects music shouldn't be fighting over who plays the song better...I've heard many versions ranging from widespread panic, grateful dead, keller williams, dave, jimi, and so on...personally you should all be thanking mr dylan for providing us a song that has with stood the tests of time and become a classic!
