Dead Cross – Obedience School Lyrics

Sounds like it could be a pro-vegetarian (or even vegan) song, but then again, you never know when it\'s Mike Patton who writes the lyrics. |

@[foreverdrone:29672] I agree with you. There are a number of puzzling lines in this song, though, such as when he sings about being wrapped in wet blankets and seemingly tortured by somebody. More metaphors? Who knows. |

Radiohead – Street Spirit (Fade Out) Lyrics

This song is beautifully written and executed, but to me, the message it conveys refers to total, utter nihilism. It's as if the Narrator is pondering the emptiness and meaninglessness of life and the world. |

@[EightHitCombo:24194] I doubt they would have gotten really huge, what with their disturbing lyrics and album imagery. Also, I don't think Dax would have wanted that sort of popularity. In an interview he explained how, by the time Paegan came out, things were already spiraling out of control, with many people depending on the band for a paycheck. He basically said he wanted out because he couldn't handle it and he had other musical ideas in mind. |

I've never judged people who do drugs. To each their own, I guess. I was just saying that I didn't know what kind of drugs could produce those effects. I don't even drink anymore |

Iron Maiden – The Book of Souls Lyrics

OK, I don't believe I have anything really insightful or deep to say about this song, but it probably deals with the history of the Mayan empire and its eventual downfall, brought about by the "alien invasion" referenced in the last few verses. The Maya peoples engaged a long series of bitter battles against the Spaniards but were ultimately defeated and conquered by them. |

It is indeed. Very clever explanation, by the way. The narrator seems to be pondering the pointlessness of human life as seen through the lens of war and violence. |

Very dark. Although I would have preferred a less electronically-enhanced production style (and that goes for the rest of the record as well) this is an absolute winner. U2's creepiest song, perhaps? A lullaby sung to a pedophile priest. Shivers! |

Mark Lanegan – No Easy Action Lyrics

Exactly! I suspected as much. I like the fact that he's a written a war-time song without even making it obvious. I'm only puzzled by the beginning of the sixth stanza: "I stagger in a daze to find what you meant/where it's good to be alone". Maybe somebody promised something to him? Maybe that he'd find some sort of sense of purpose in the war? |

Now that you've mentioned all the possible references to war and violence in the song's imagery, I definitely agree with you. |

Audioslave – Your Time Has Come Lyrics

"I don't know why you're dying long before your time has come"
I think the narrator is telling somebody to get up off their knees and live their life. He's talking about many people who didn't get to live a long life because violence, stupidity or war took it away from them and using them as examples to convey his message. "Those guys didn't have a choice, you're young and healthy, so don't wallow in depression and stop dying before your time has come". Just my two cents. |

Mark Lanegan – Sleep With Me Lyrics

To me, it comes off as a collage of various situations... Waking up in a druggy haze, meeting prostitutes, probably overdosing and being rescued by an ambulance. All woven together by the need the narrator feels for somebody to offer him love and acceptance |

Toto – After You've Gone Lyrics

The narrator seems to be torn between leaving her ex behind and moving on and wanting to go back with her, although he seems to have made a decision by the time the chorus ends, when he sings "alone doesn't have to mean lonely after you've gone" |
