The Gaslight Anthem – We Did It When We Were Young Lyrics 14 years ago
My favorite song off the album, I think. All the songs are amazing though (of course!)

Not quite sure what it's about. I see it as kind of... bitterly reminiscent. I see the narrator like sitting on the porch of his little suburban house, with his wife and his dogs, and thinking about the past. How hard life used to be and how he crawled out of it half dead and broken for... the suburbs and some dogs.

Or alternatively, he crawled out of mess his life used to be, half dead and broken, and is trying to settle into this new life and somebody from that past shows up and throws everything ass over teakettle.

I don't know, but I love it. The way he sings the line 'And I cannot hold a candle for every pretty gun' and the chorus. He kills me.

Manchester Orchestra – Jimmy, He Whispers Lyrics 14 years ago
I really like this song but all the rhyming in the middle bit makes me want to slap somebody. Logical, wonderful, magical, wonderful. But I love the opening. "God knows you're on my mind, I can't tell Him otherwise." And then the way the music kind of swells in the background and then fades out. It's really quite amazing. I just wish I could get past all the rhyming.

Adam Lambert – Whataya Want From Me Lyrics 14 years ago
So I heard this song for the first time about, oh, fifteen minutes ago, via FUSE music videos. And thank heavens for DVR because I rewound and listened to it two more times.

I'm gonna be honest, I didn't watch American Idol, didn't know anything about Adam Lambert -- other than he was this pretty gay boy that made all the girls go *swoon*, kay whatever -- until I saw the vid for "For Your Entertainment" which led me to enlightenment, lol. And that was a good song, dance-y, raunchy, catchy, and that was good enough. And I understood the allure of Mr. Lambert. (He's SO pretty.)

And then I heard this song, and, okay, it's not the best song every, but it hit me in this way that made me stop and listen... and rewind and listen... and rewind and listen again. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I can relate. This whole "Hey, listen, I know I'm a freak, and I know I'm insane, and I know I have issues, but please just be patient with me and don't give up on me, because I swear to god I will not let you down if you stick it out with me."

Or at least that's how I feel about it. =]

The Gaslight Anthem – Wherefore Art Thou, Elvis? Lyrics 14 years ago
I love this song, it's one of my favorites from them. (It's so hard to just pick *A* favorite though. These guys, they're just too damn good.)

The thing is though, I have no idea what this song is going on about. It's got absolutely glorious imagery, it's poetry but... I don't really... get it.

I mean, even the title. Wherefore art thou, Elvis? Why are you, Elvis? Why Elvis? What does this song have to do with Elvis?

I'm sure there's a ton of references to other songs in here, as they tend to do, but other than Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen, I am at a loss. Somebody wanna go after this song and figure it all out?

The Gaslight Anthem – The Navesink Banks Lyrics 14 years ago
This is another one of my favorite songs. I love how simple and stripped down it is, not a lot going on musically. Just makes the lyrics more powerful if you ask me.

I love the repitition of the "first sin". "My first sin was a young American girl", "My first sin was a fear that made me old", "Your first sin was a lie you told yourself".

I think my favorite part though is:

Now I walk down by the shipyard, near the place that I was born
Sayin, "Ah, Maria, if you'da known me when."
But she just smiles, by the light on the Navesink Banks
Sayin, "Listen baby... I know you now."

I mean that's just... phew.

Do you suppose the Maria at the end of the song is the same she from the beginning, with the sign above her bed? Or two different women? Perhaps the first girl was one that ruined him, and Maria is a different one, and he wishes he knew her -- she knew him -- before the first girl. I don't know. I'm just thinking aloud. =]

The Gaslight Anthem – Miles Davis and the Cool Lyrics 14 years ago
I love this song. If I had to pick one favorite song from these guys, it'd probably be this one.

I really like the little story it tells... or the one I imagine when I hear it, anyway. I see it from the POV of this high-school age guy, probably shy and unpopular. He likes this girl but has always been too afraid to say anything to her all throughout high school. I imagine this taking place during the spring, they're seniors now, graduation is quickly approaching. It's now or never. So he goes to her house late at night. He stands under her bedroom window, looks up. He takes a deep breath, finds a stone, and hopes or prays or wishes that this will work. The stone hits the window and he talks her into coming out with him. She puts on a red dress, climbs out of her bedroom window, and they run out into the night to dance and have fun before they graduate and have to become responsible adults.

Alternatively, the whole middle part of the song -- "Honey, put on your red dress" to "So I found me a stone" -- could be him imagining the best possible scenario, and then he throws the rock at her window. And we don't know how it turns out for him.

In any case... this song just makes me feel hopeful. It's weird. It says to me "Have hope. Be brave. Throw a stone. You don't know how it could turn out. It could turn out great."

And the chorus... "So don't wait too long to come home. My, how the years and our youth pass on. Don't wait too long to come home, I will leave the front light on. The night is our own... don't wait too long." kind of reinforces this idea that I have. Don't wait too long, don't wait for later, do it now, do it while we're young, son.

So there's my $.02. =]

Slipknot – Snuff Lyrics 14 years ago
I've never been the hugest fan of Slipknot, but I love Corey Taylor when he goes slow and mellow, like this song here. Zzyzx Rd, both Vermillion songs, Bother, you know what I mean. I love that sound.

This song is just phenomenal. And it hurts to listen to, just buries under your skin and aches, and yet I love listening to it anyway. I think it's more or less self-explanatory as to the meaning... you hear it and you know, you understand, but it's hard to describe. It's love and pain and betrayal and defeat and anger.

Has anyone seen the video though? I think it's very good although I'm not fully sure I understand exactly what's going on there. I have an idea, I think... but... I'm just interested to see what anybody else thinks about it.

Linkin Park – In Between Lyrics 14 years ago
I heard this song for the first time yesterday. I was driving someplace with my ex, and let's just say I was in a conflicted frame of mind about a decision I was having a hard time making. We arrived at our destination right about the time this song ended and I turned to him and said, "Yeah, that hit just a leeeeetle bit too close to home. What's it called, who's it by?" "Dude... it's by Linkin Park." "What? No. Really?"

Never have I heard a more opportune song at a more opportune moment.

I don't know why everybody's hating on it so hard. I guess we all just have different opinions. *shrugs*

Fall Out Boy – What a Catch, Donnie Lyrics 14 years ago
I just heard this song -- and saw the video -- for the first time about ten minutes ago. I rewound it (thank god for DVR) and watched it twice.

I sat there the first time staring at my TV with my mouth agape. You know how sometimes when the very first time you hear a song, you know you love it instantaneously? I had that for this song. And that's rare.

And I cried at the end. I think it's probably more because the seagull flies away, but even so.

Seriously, this song is so good... I don't even have anything else to say about it.

The Airborne Toxic Event – Sometime Around Midnight Lyrics 15 years ago
Oh, I love this song. I've heard it a couple times and it's just brilliant.

I mean, it's a pretty simple story; you can sum it up in one sentence, "What happens when this guy runs into his ex at a bar."

But the perfect descriptiveness of the whole thing is just dead-on.

I can imagine this happening to me someday.

Kings of Leon – Closer Lyrics 15 years ago
I love this song.

I started looking up KoL after hearing Use Somebody several times -- I love that song too -- and I've listened to this song, oh... eight times in a row now? Something like that? I took a brief interlude where I listened to Cold Desert -- also good! -- but now I'm back to this one. If I buy the album, which I'm leaning very heavily towards, it'll be because of this song.

I don't want to say this song is about vampires, as much as I love vampires (fyi, I'm not one of those Twilight fangirls) because that's just... I don't know, I just don't want to say that. But maybe it is. Who am I to say? Maybe it's about reincarnation. It could be.

And I just love the way he sings the lines, "Do you think of me? Where am I now, baby, where do I sleep?" He wails it. It's great.

Live – Pillar Of Davidson Lyrics 15 years ago
I have no idea what this song means. I really don't. I'm not sure I really want to. Everyone's all on about "working for the man", spending your life doing the same thing over and over again (factory work) and. And I guess if the writer says that's what it is, than so it is... but I just don't get that.

I mean, I get part of it, "Warm bodies are not machines that can only make money", yeah. But then there's all this talk about the shepherd, who is that? Shepherd makes me think of a religious tone there... but I just don't know.

The song is beautiful and amazing either way... it gives me goosebumps. I love it.

10 Years – So long, good-bye Lyrics 15 years ago
This song makes me want to cry. I mean, I'll get emotional about songs, but this one is an entirely different level.

I think it's just about two people who can't be together for one reason or another, and maybe they will get another chance in the next life. And that idea is hard for me to think about... that these two people will just have to wait until their next life.

Scott Weiland – Missing Cleveland Lyrics 15 years ago
I actually, surprisingly, really like this song.

I guess it's about a girl, some relationship the singer had, evidently in Cleveland. Or maybe they met in Cleveland, and it's somehow special to them. And then I guess they broke up. Maybe they were too young, or too volatile to really make the relationship work. The line about "one and one and one make three" might also have something to do with a kid, perhaps the singer wasn't ready for the responsibility of fatherhood.

So looking back, being older, he feels guilty about having left the girl and/or their child.

What space monkeys have to do with all this, I'm still not sure of. Maybe something to do with the early space program, sending doomed animals into space... talking about leaving somewhere you'll never be able to return to.

That's my personal opinion of it, anyhow. I'm probably putting a slight spin on it due to my own personal experiences. Also, I grew up just south of Cleveland (Ohio, anyway) so this song has special significance to me on that count.

Oh wow, that's so interesting. I know of the Heaven's Gate suicides, vaguely, the whole comet thing, but I never thought about it in relation to this song.

That's so fascinating!

Although, still, the singer says he wrote it about his parents... pretty coincidental though!

Slipknot – Vermilion Lyrics 15 years ago
First of all, I like this song a lot. I can't say I'm a huge fan of Slipknot or anything, but this song and part 2 are very good.

However... I don't understand it. =/ And I consider myself to be a fairly smart person. Perhaps these questions I have have already been answered (I didn't read through all the comments... lazy, I know) so feel free to bust me on that.

The biggest thing I question is, what is "aphid attraction" ?? The only aphid I'm aware of is a kind of little green bug... ladybugs eat them. Is there some other definition of Aphid I'm not aware of? Is the word even "aphid?" o.O

Is there any importance to the nickname Dahlia?

What does "dressed in all the rings" mean?

Finally, what does part 2 have to do with this? Obviously it's the same person, the same "she", but what's changed? Why is part 2 mellow, where this one seems angry? Some people keep thinking it has to do with his wife... Scarlett - Vermillion. Is this true or just a theory?

That's all the questions I have... I'm done now.

Also, because I just can't contain my poetry-nerdiness, the whole "She's coming home... forever" makes me think of the poem "Porphyria's Lover" by Robert Browning. Now I'm done. =D

I just heard this song for the first time today, and I LOVE it. I've just listened to it three times in a row, and I don't think I'm finished hearing it yet.

I love when he sings, "I just saw Halley's Comet...", just the way he sounds... I love his voice.

For some reason, when I first heard it, I thought it was about suicide. I'm not really sure why, I might just be in a dark frame of mind, and that's just what I would automatically think of. I can also see the other interpretation about him having to leave his parents, and I'm surprised that wasn't my first thought, since I'm about to move across the country from my family.

Either way, this is still a great song.

The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus – Cat and Mouse Lyrics 15 years ago
I just heard this song today (on YouTube - put to a gymnastics video, of all the possible things, although I feel it fit the video very well) and just fell instantly in love with it. I like everything I've heard from this band, I might have to get buy a cd.

The lead singer's (I don't know his name) voice is so wonderful in this song. The emotion is just so... right there. The lyrics, his voice, the music, the piano, you can just feel it.

I think everyone here has posted very valid meanings (except for the one who said it was about God, don't even get me STARTED on THAT nonsense) and I don't think I could add anything to what's already been said. I can't even say it reminds me of an ex (although it could) because it mostly just reminds me of that gymnastics video, lol.

"I'm not satisfied with where I'm at in life."

"Am I supposed to be happy, with everything I ever wanted?
It comes with a price."

"You said... you said that you would die for me.
You must live for me too..."

Those are my favorite parts.

I can't say I am a big fan of pop music, not since I was in about 8th grade. In fact, for the most part, I generally abhor pop music.

But for some reason, I heard this on the radio and it got completely stuck in my head, to the point where I would be walking around singing it.

I finally managed to snag the track, and I like it a lot. I like the beat, like a lot of other people have said, and the way she sings also, and the feeling.

Although I have a hard time getting past the bad grammar (No, you don't mean nothing at all to me). But as long as I don't think too much about it, it's alright.

This song came out right around the time my oldest friend screwed me over. This song reminds me of that. The first verse especially. The verses are what I'd say to him, mostly, the chorus ("Don't look at me that way. It was an honest mistake.") seems to be how he'd reply. That's just me though.

Anberlin – Paperthin Hymn Lyrics 16 years ago
Just out of curiousity, why does a band's particular religious faith have to do anything to do with what their music is about? I'm wiccan. If I wrote songs, are you immediately going to classify my music as wiccan music? What if a band is Jewish? Does that mean they HAVE to be writing about God all the time BECAUSE they are Jewish?

I'm never going to understand exactly how that works. To me, the phrase "a Christian band" is a band that specifically plays Christian music, praise the Lord and all that stuff. And obviously a Christian band has Christian faith, that just goes along. However, I think a band can be of Christian faith but not a Christian band, do you see the difference?

Anyway, not that that has much to do with the song. It's pretty ambivalent, but I think it's talking about caring about people, someone specific, and then losing them. Probably they died. It's sad. It's a pretty song though. I like it, but not necessarily the Christian angle.

Puscifer – Rev 22:20 Lyrics 16 years ago
This song is so... just... hot. I heard it on the Puscifer website when someone sent me there to check it out. The about six months later heard it on the credit-crawl after Underworld and was like, "Wait, why do I know this song??"

Kaos17, I have no idea what the fuck you're talking about and I have a feeling you don't know either. It's sex. Sometimes there is no deeper meaning.

According to the bible I have here, Rev. 22:20 says, "He who testifies to these things says, "Surely I am coming soon." Amen. Come, Lord Jesus!"

I think Maynard's just being a smartass with the religious references and trying to piss people off by mixing sex and the bible and Christianity. Since apparently there's no place in religion for sex and if we were all Christian or Catholic, the whole damn race would die out.

Leonard Cohen – Hallelujah Lyrics 16 years ago
This is probably my favorite version of this song. I can't say I've heard them all, but I've heard most of them. I can't really see why everyone says the Jeff Buckley version is so hot. If we're talking cover versions, I have to say it's a tie between Rufus Wainwright's and Allison Crowe, I think her name is.

Anyway, what it's about, I can't really say. I'm not Christian so I can't say much for the Biblical references and what they might mean. Or if they're supposed to be metaphors for something else.

I think the thing that most speaks to me in this song is the line, "And even though it all went wrong, I'll stand before the Lord of Song with nothing on my tongue but Hallelujah." Because... damn. I feel exactly that way about something, and there had never before been words to describe it. Leonard Cohen hits it SO PERFECTLY. That line is without a doubt the best song lyrics ever.

I think the literal meaning is Corey talking about touring and how it's so tiring and he wishes he could be with his family.

To me... this song came out when I was at a bit of a crossroads about a relationship, if I was going to stick with it or hang it on a shelf... the lines "Tell me I should wait around for you, tell me I can have it all. I'm still too tired to care and I gotta go" really spoke to me and how I felt about my relationship at the time, pretty much just saying, "Please give me a reason to stay."

I stayed, and I don't regret it for a second. But the song still makes me a little sad.

Evans Blue – The Tease Lyrics 16 years ago
I'm not sure if this song has anything to do with the "story" I've been imagining, but if it does, I imagine it does like this...

The singer, fresh from his "relationship" from the girl, is starting to move on. I want to imagine he's move to a new area (no real reason, I just do).

He gets a job filming low-budget horror movies ("Something to corsets and horror", "these low-budget movies change our low-budget lives", "these bloody faces with their bloody knives") and is "captivated" with the lead actress.

The chorus is him not wanting to get into a new relationship so fresh out of the old one that wrecked him so ("Pray for mercy instead of time") and the other part, "you are the massocre, the masochist, the tease" I think refers to her role in the film. Her character dies in the film (the massocre), which she enjoys (the masochist) and the tease references that the singer wants her but doesn't want a relationship with her... maybe she's flirting with him a little, teasing him, but he knows he just can't. ("I'm still wondering everyone we've loved has broke away")

But it sounds a little hopeful, like maybe he does move on and find love again.

I'd just like to mention I'm totally making this up as I go along, my imagination knows no bounds. ^^

Evans Blue – Quote Lyrics 16 years ago
This song is the last song in the "story" of Dark That Follows, The Promise and The Threat and A Cross and a Girl Named Blessed.

I'm not recapping the story, if you're curious, read what I put in the other songs.

This time the girl finally leaves the singer. She's trying to explain her reasons why. The first chorus is him throwing her lines back at her. He's just tired of the fight and the situation and is like, "You've been this way your entire life, why would you change for me?"

The choruses his him just feeling tired and disgusted about all the wasted time and energy he put into this girl. He sees her as being kind of sad and weak, and is just shocked that he went through what he did for her. "Is this really how it's going to end? Is this really worth all that happened?" He sees her just as being pathetic now ("You are the saddest sight I know")

The second chorus is her trying to explain why she's choosing her boyfriend over him and he's just like, "I don't care" and she's looking for pity ("Well woe is me"). He recognizes that this girl has changed him, and not for the better. She doesn't understand that, nor would she care if she did.

The bridge is him kind of reflecting on what he went through for her, and wonders if she ever really cared about him at all, ("I saw your light once, did you see mine?") And he is resigned to the fact she probably didn't care at all.

He realizes that he loved her and all she ever did was break his heart. The end of it his just him pretty much walking away, throwing her own words back at her again. "Quote, goodbye my soul, unquote".

Evans Blue – A Cross and a Girl Named Blessed Lyrics 16 years ago
This continues the story from "Dark That Follows" and "The Promise and The Threat".

To summarize, this girl is dating this guy, but is having a relationship on the side with the singer. She loves them both, but refuses to leave her boyfriend. The singer can't just walk away. In "Promise", she tries to leave her boyfriend, to be unsuccessful, and only to start fights about it with the singer. At the end, she hasn't left her boyfriend, and the singer still can't walk away, although now he is feeling quite bitter toward the girl.

This song I think speaks of the girl's more physical relationship with the singer after all the fights they had. "She says I love you with her hands, she says I hate you with her eyes". That she's still having her affair even though she feels bitter toward the singer for trying to make her choose one guy over the other.

The chorus is him saying that eventually they're going to get past this, one way or the other, because what's going on isn't worth fighting over. Or, alternatively, their relationship will end up fading away because it wasn't worth trying to make it work anymore.

I think the chorus is just him thinking about her, "There's a pretty girl somewhere, with a pretty name" when she's not with him, and that he probably will never tell her how he feels about her, because she's not as committed to this relationship as he is, as he would like her to be.

I think at the end of it, she goes to him one more time ("Down on your knees/and she's beggin' please") and then she tells him it's done. I think at that point he begs her to stay "You won't know who you are until you're down on your knees, and you're begging please")

But I gather she leaves anyway.

Evans Blue – The Promise and the Threat Lyrics 16 years ago
To me, this song continues where "Dark That Follows" left off.

This girl is in a relationship with a guy, but she's having an affair with the singer on the side. She loves them both, and won't leave her boyfriend for the singer. At the end of the song, ("Dark that Follows") IMO, it seems that the singer gives up on her and stops waiting for her to leave her relationship for him.

This song starts out where I think she tries to leave her boyfriend, and they start fighting and she can't really leave him and keeps coming back to him. The first verse ("She brought her anger/she left her sympathy') seems to say that she goes to the singer to rant about the fights with her boyfriend, not realizing that it hurts the singer to hear about her boyfriend.

I think because of this aspect THEY start having their own fights (first chorus) about how she can't leave and he's thinking that because of this her own boyfriend might start to look better than him ("the promise").

The second verse is him apologizing for fighting with her, but thinks that loving her isn't enough, even though he's willing to keep trying.

Second chorus is another round of fighting, but this time her boyfriend is the threat to her "relationship" with the singer. The part that goes, "She's so dramatic, she says she's leaving... is that a promise, or a threat?" When she says she's leaving, he wonders if it's a promise (leaving her boyfriend) or a threat (leaving him).

Last chorus is again, more arguing, the singer wondering again if the boyfriend will be the one she chooses over him. Finally he realizes that she's never going to leave the boyfriend for him, that he is the promise she'll never keep, and the threat to her other, real relationhip.

Evans Blue – Dark that Follows Lyrics 16 years ago
So this is what I think.

This girl is in a relationship with one guy, and she truly loves him, but she also loves this other guy, the singer.

The singer loves her so desperately and would do anything for her to leave the guy she's with. For some reason she can't/won't leave that guy, but she won't stop seeing the singer on the side. She can't leave, and he won't leave, and they're at this standstill.

He wants to be with the girl, and he can't blame her for not wanting to leave her relationship, because he loves her. He also can't blame the guy she's with, because he's not a bad guy and it's not his fault.

There are so many lines, I think, that support this.

"I'm your other soul, but you can love them all" She says he's her other soul, but she loves both of these guys.

"The disease that stains your lips tonight" I think she goes to see him after having sex with her boyfriend and her lips are red and swollen from his kisses

"You're the disease that's in my life" She's the thing he can't get away from, making his life miserable even in loving her.

The chorus is talking about how it's no one's fault that they're in this situation, like I said earlier, He can't blame her, because he loves her. He can't blame her boyfriend because it's not his fault either, he's a good guy. He can't blame himself because she keeps saying she'll leave the guy. But he wants someone to blame for all this misery.

I think the second verse is where he sees her out with her boyfriend. It seems almost like they know each other somehow or something. He sees the boyfriend so happy with his girl, stupid-happy ("Now wipe that stupid look off of your face") and he (the singer) gets jealous, because he knwos he should be with her. ("You're not the only one, you're not the finest one, you're just the disease that stains her lips tonight, you are the disease that's in my life") That if he wasn't there, everything would be totally fine and dandy.

I think at the end he gets tired of her stringing him along and he gets fed up and leaves ("You're just the disease that WAS in my life") Or, at the very least, thinks he left her.

It's definitely lights. Sry. Lips does make more sense... but he's sayin' what he's sayin'.

This song makes me think of my bf before we started dating. We're both kinda broken in our own ways, and we're both crazy in our own ways, but all those things just fit together with the other.

Anyway, before we started dating, I knew he liked me but I refused to try a relationship with him (based on a physical difference of 2500 miles) even though I could feel a connection with him ("It feels like you've known me for so long"). I told him not to like me, that it was never gonna happen ("Don't fall for me/ Even when you know you're falling for me").

Eventually I gave the kid a chance and we've been dating for over a year now.

So, in other words, this song makes me feel sappy as all heck. ^^

This is probably my favorite song after "Cold".

I always assumed the "her" and the "you" were referring to the same girl. I'm not sure why... I just always have.

In all the fairness of honesty, I have no idea what the hell this song is about. If the "she" and the "you" are really the same person or not.

I get this image of like a party, this beautiful girl sitting somewhere, smoking and blowing rings. The air is smoky from her cigarettes and she's ignoring everyone who's trying to talk to her. She has a beer in her hand, but she's not drunk. I think later (second verse) she and the lead singer got a cheap hotel room where he was drunk (and she was not). She's still smoking her cigarettes ("Polluting the airways") but he's passed out from too much booze and good sex.

I think he wants to mean something to her, but she just used him for sex. He was chasing after her for a while there, but finally realized he was being pathetic and gave up.

I think the difference between "you" and "her" is when he's talking about "her", it's the memory of that drunk one-night-stand in a cheap hotel with a girl that only wanted to use him, and the "you" is how he feels after, how he feels now.

He wants her to want him ("Won't you... beg me?"), wants to know how he can love her, get her to love him ("Tell me how to love you, like anybody else would")

I'm not sure if the "You better start to love her" is him talking to himself or another guy. Maybe she used him to get over another guy and he's back for her. It seems awfully darned selfless for a jilted lover to tell someone to love the girl he lost. Maybe it's more like, "You better fucking love her, because God knows I'm not going to anymore."

e|b freaking blows my mind sometimes. The best line of the whole song without a doubt is, "You better FUCKING love you." Matisyn's voice gives me CHILLS.

The acoustic version of this is pretty good. There's just a little bit of piano and cello. And chick background vocals, but I could do without that.

I have the acoustic concert dvd ^^

In the intro to this song, he says it's about control in a relationship and what happens when you lose it. I guess that makes sense. What happens when things start going downhill and there's nothing you can do to stop them or even slow them down.

I notice that I've commented on this song twice already (and got busted for it, lol) but never gave a meaning for it.

I remember exactly where I was when I heard this the first time, on the radio, and I was COMPLETELY hooked from the second line.

To me, it's sort of like a bass-ackward kind of love song. Kind of like lust and obsession. Where maybe the girl doesn't care as much, but he would go to literally the ends of the earth for her. He loves her, but she's in it purely for the physical aspects.

Or I don't know. I love it, I think it's hot and amazing, I don't care what it's about.

(And god damn it, Matisyn's voice IS sexy!)

I think the meaning of this song is fairly obvious. Kind of a sappy-ish love song.

I can't say I'm overly impressed with how it says what it says, but I love the way it sounds. And the acoustic version rocks pretty hard too.

So he loves this girl, and he wants to the girl he loves her, but he's afraid to, so he says, "If you say you love me, I'll say the same to you" because he's scared to say it first.

And uh... by the way, how on EARTH does this sound like tool? I like tool as much as the next person, but don't sound even remotely similar.

To me, the line "Your picture trends in black and white" just speaks to the way some people see things in only one way or the other, good or evil. Most things aren't only black or only white, but many many shades of grey. Don't ask me what that means in the context of the song though.

It sounds like the girl is suicidal, maybe not Quite to the point of killing herself, but almost. He loves her, he wants to help her find a reason to live. She keeps screwing up ("pirouhette mistakes", turning around just to do it again), thinks there's no reason to keep living. She tells him his, and he's so horrified by the idea that "If I could find the time to speak, I'd try to find a thousand ways to prove you wrong."

I think the "picture trends in black and white" means that she can only look at life in two ways... either she's living miserable or she's dead. He wants to show her there is more than just living or dying to life.

I love the part in the middle, "She whispers in his ear, don't hurt me, don't forget me, don't hurt me, I'm still not properly together" It sounds to me that some of what he was trying to say got through to her, and she's going to trust him a little... it sounds like sex to me ^^ But that's just me.

I don't like the end of it though, with (I guess) the Serbian and the kind of yelling-ness. Kinda messes up the vibe of the song, IMO.

Evans Blue – Fear Lyrics 16 years ago
Does anybody see this song in kind of a political way? I was listening to it one day and it struck me that it could be talking to the president in the voice of a soldier. I hate political songs like no other, but if this one is, it does it well.

I'm not sure why I think of it like this, just a few lines stick out at me.

"All the fear and all the cares of the world never forced themselves into my arms" Talking about, I think, how a soldier chooses to enlist, chooses to fight, chooses to die for his country, that he's not forced into it.

"It was your fear that helped me, fear that got me to move" The president's fear of nuclear weaponry and terrorism that got the soldier speaking to enlist in the army.

"Straight from you heart into their sight" The president's desire to get Saddam went right from his heart to what everyone wanted, including soldiers who had to go over their to physically do it

I think it tells how at first everyone was for the war and for invading Iraq to save the world from evil. But slowly, people started to realize the war for the mass stupidity it was ("There was a constant slip out of the positive")

The second verse goes into this more, how people are starting to be against it, to see that it was the wrong move to make, and how the pres. keeps shipping more and more people over there to die "(You killed more precious lives than you had let live,")

The bridge, I think, is talking to the president directly. "For shame on you, who cares about me anyway?" (Who cares about the life of one soldier in the scheme of things, certainly not the president who only wants MORE people)

"I don't mind you" probably meaning the soldier doesn't personally dislike the president, just what he's doing

"It'd mean so much if you'd just save me, save me" In other words, get me the holy hell out of here before I die.

I dunno if anyone else sees this or not, but once I've seen it I can't unsee it, so it's the meaning I'm stuck with. I don't know if it fits perfectly, but it makes sense to me.

I'm not using this as an excuse to go into a politcal rant either, this is just what I honestly swear to god this song says to me.

Is it possible that he is saying, "Draw your fears" instead of "Dry your fears"? Because that's what I thought he was saying, and that seems to make more sense to me.

This song doesn't make me think of drugs, for some reason. It sounds like he's talking to this girl who's depressed and cuts herself. I think he was trying to help her because he went through this himself in some way ("Falling is fatal from this height, I know") but I think she is just so bad off that he gives up. He's tired of trying to help her because he's putting so much energy into her and it's not working. She has to want to help herself before he can help her. ("But you have to pull yourself together.")

The line "I should've never held you up this high" means (to me) that he should never have tried to help her as much as he did, because it only meant she had farther to fall when he eventually left.

That's fucking morbid as hell, I hope I'm wrong.

This song always makes me think of a former soldier suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (is it disorder or syndrome? You know what I'm talking about in either case, right?)

The line, "They woke up to hear me screaming" makes me think of this particularly. I think he's screaming in his sleep from having nightmares.

Also the line, "She says, "I'd do anything to have him back," doesn't necessarily mean the man she loves died in combat, but returned a completely different person than the one who left her to go to war.

The other line is "I'm lost, and by myself," I don't know how much I know about the Vietnam war (way before my time) but I know a lot of the veterans were ignored, not treated well at all, many did not receive the help that they needed. I think that line alludes to the reception returning spilders got after the war.

I hope I'm not talking out of my ass about that, I don't know if my facts are straight, but that's what this song makes me think of. I'm sure it could pertain to the war in Iraw now as well.

I swear to god, every single song e|b sings is about this relationship I had with an ex.

I think Fender pretty much describes it perfectly. I'm not even sure if I need to.

My favorite line is the one about drawing lines... I find it ironic, the reason what happened between my ex and I was because we never COULD draw any lines. That was the problem, we had no line between being friends and being more-than-friends.

So yeah. I don't think I need to say anything else about it.
