The Stooges – Your Pretty Face Is Going To Hell Lyrics
| 15 years ago

I hear it as "If you want to make a buck, boy, you gotta be a tease."
Then I also hear "Hot flesh and I touch alone" as "A pound of flesh and a touch of bone."
One of my favorite songs off the Raw Power album. |

Bob Dylan – Like a Rolling Stone Lyrics

Supposedly, this song is based on a 22 page short story Dylan had written about a society girl who had fallen down on her luck.
This kinda points to Edie Sedgwick, who Dylan had a thing with at this time, if I remember correctly. I've read that the "Napoleon in rags" in question is Andy Warhol. Also, it's been said that Edie was also the inspiration for "Just Like a Woman", "Lay Lady Lay" as well as "Leopard-Skin Pill-Box Hat".
Either way, I'd have to agree with Rolling Stone's vote in this case. Out of all the songs I know, and all the songs I love, this one to me is the all-time best. |

R.E.M. – Crush With Eyeliner Lyrics

Who cares either way? I always thought the song was sung from the point of view of an older man trying to act hip (i.e. the faker) to get the attention of a younger woman he's smitten with. I never thought it was about Courtney, but whatever...I always saw as Michael portraying this letch character. Then again, the younger woman in the song isn't any angel, hence the "three miles of bad road" comment. Just my opinion. |

R.E.M. – It's the End of the World as We Know It Lyrics

For some reason, my favorite part of this song is the back up chorus of "Time I had some time alone". That for me is the best part of the song, and the part I usually sing when someone is playing it. |

David Bowie – Ashes to Ashes Lyrics

Ashes to Ashes, Funk to Funky, We know Major Tom's a Junkie...does that mean Major Tom is strung out on smack? Not necessarily. There are many types of junkies, as Burroughs showed us in "Naked Lunch", and Bowie was a fan of Billy Burroughs. So, in the end, maybe Major Tom was just strung out on the beauty of space and how Earth looks from all the way up there. Makes sense when ya take into account, "I'm hoping to kick but the planet it glowing"
All in all, one of my favorite 80s era Bowie tunes, and I am an admitted Bowie junkie. |
