Strung Out – The Kids Lyrics | 21 years ago |
You medicate into submission/ A sleeping monster needs no attention. I think that's such a profound lyric. People are so willing to find a quick fix for a child's behavorial problems and many children are medicated when there really is no reason what so ever for that medication. |
The Lawrence Arms – Ghost Stories Lyrics | 21 years ago |
I think this song is about the death of a friend. He starts off by describing the corpse "skin like dark grey metal/ Inanimate and cold." The friend is fighting, and just "killing time," (I think that's the full lyric in the song) to ease his pain, but it is obvious that he is going to die. "When you wake up, you won't remember anything," Eventually, it's going to be forgotten and the pain will subside, but "that night the wailed in the windstorm/ Cries sharp like a cresent moon//my breath fogged up the window, so I let the night breathe in/ I let the ghosts into my room..." He immerses himself in the pain and lonliness of the loss of his friend. This is an amazingly well written song and has a very powerful meaning. |

i really agree with xpankfrisst, especially if you read the lyrics to "Razorblades," which would sort of be on the same theme. |
Strung Out – Razorblade Lyrics | 22 years ago |
This is such an intelligent and beautifully written song that I can relate to. To me, the song is about a close friend (obviously a girl) who has filled up an emptiness in her life with self-destruction. "Sad eyes of a starlet glazed in promises made too divine to be real. A runaway too shiftless to know what is wrong, don't make it right," are some of the most profound lines. She expected things to work out like in TV or the way she expected them to, but didn't know how to make it work, and completely loses her way. "Your reason to live became areason to die," shows that whatever she filled her life up with (drugs, parties, sex, material possessions, ect.) became her downfall. The song does suggests that she dies, probably through sucideg: "...and now you're gone," "well i just want to know you found some peace before you left this place." "Bound and bled, instant fame in red, now you're in the spotlight again." This song is so tragic and powerful, and I can really relate to it because I had a very close friend fill up her life with partying, and it all broke down tragically for her, although, no the same way as in the song. Strung Out have the best punk rock lyrics ever! |

AFI – Exsanguination Lyrics | 22 years ago |
Not trying to be disrespectful, but i totally disagree. Here's what i really think the song means. He talks about conforming and becoming just like everyone in a perhaps commerical and homogenious society. "Welcome a whole new pain/ and take comfort in what you've become." The pain is giving up parts of yourself and taking comfort in what you've become could mean take comfort for you are right in the eyes of society. "I have arrived so unashamed but my reflection no longer seems the same. It seems much dimmer now... it seems so dim" He feels he is losing much of himself, his reflection is dimmed because he is no longer entirely there. "Just stumble and fall into a world that's over crowded." I think that supports it the most: Just fall into the society and culture. And you will find me. Won't recognize me; and I won't recognize myself. This means that he is not entirely himself. I've arrived so unashamed, but all my senses no longer seem the same. I can sense everything. My sight's so clear. Ok I suppose this could be talk of vampires, but i really doubt it. THe way I read it is he now understands what drives people and why so many are how they are. In an instant,, my life just slipped away, I fought for life, the whole time you were holding me down. You watched me dying. Holding me down, you brought my rebirth. He fought to be something else but his fate was inevitable and he has become reborn. I dont know if this is right, the only person who does is Davey. I just dont see at all how it could be about vampires. |

gk1erik is right, although i don't think it's a "satan songs" If he is to be satan, then it could be that he is trying to tempt someone. Also, the refrences to the stairs could be a biblical reference when, i forget who was shown stairs leading up to heaven... who was that?? |

Strung Out – Exhumation of Virginia Madison Lyrics | 22 years ago |
i think this song is for a dead lover, Vigrina Madison. she has died and left him feeling completly dead inside. He wastes his life away wanting to be dead with her, drinking and watching t.v. I think that he also is counting down the days until he can be with her, or maybe he plans to go to her grave to commit suicide on her grave to be with her. It's a great song and their new CD "An american paradox" just came out and i have it ordered from amazon.com, and i encourage every punk fan to go out and get it. |

Thursday – Paris in Flames Lyrics | 22 years ago |
Ok you know what, so many of you have an opinion, but are too ready to resort to insults by calling people idiots and such. You come off like a (sorry for this) a bunch of jackasses intolerant to a disagreeing opinion. Also, not that i agree with the comment about too much tolerance, but i thought i'd throw this out: Why don't we be tolerant to adults who have sex with 10 year olds? what about those who want to have sex with animals, or sex in public. ALl i'm saying is that there CAN be too much tolerance. Also, please don't respond to this post with a bunch of F-You's, i'm just stating an opinion |
AFI – The Lost Souls Lyrics | 22 years ago |
Religion is a major motif for AFI. This song at first seems to be almost mocking Christianity, but the way i see it, it is, while not a Christian song, quite affirming to the faith. He (maybe Jesus) Says that he can be sanctuary and help to ease the pain. He gladly accepts the gift (absolving of sins), but also laments "Look what you've done to me now, you've made me perfect," which could refer to th crusification. I dunno, and i'm not saying this is a "god song," but that is kinda the way i see it. |
Jimmy Eat World – Goodbye Sky Harbor Lyrics | 22 years ago |
ok ok it is a good song, but i dunno what it's about. Death and religion is my best guess. |
Finch – Awake Lyrics | 22 years ago |
My interpretation of this song is that is of a turbulent relationship. "One devotion with empty moments" could mean that when things seem fine, they are in fact empty, of holding things inside and lying to each other. "Silence broken with words unspoken/ Now she's on her knees." Their peace and silence is broken by a fight, even one without words. She begs him for forgiveness, or begs him to change, or something. "Can I beg for one more she says," she just wants things to be the way they were, even though they could not be. "The air is clearing again/ We're breathing, water turns to wine." THey see each other and their relationship clearly, but they are soon intoxicated in the familiarity ("Water turns to wine?") "THe day is tired, the night is inside her/ Now she is alive, no more feeling useless" THis could mean that the unsatisfied peace is ending and they are fighting again. "Taking with arms wide open, longing for sleep again" He just takes it and wants to get past the fight for the peace. Of course i could be totally wrong, this is only my interpretation. It could be about sex... Think about it: "Now she's on her knees" |
