i hadn't heard these guys before (considering i'm not canadian) but they randomly played on the tennis courts on my campus today and i bought their cd. they are so incredibly talented! everyone should get a chance to hear them live! |

hey, i love anthony's voice! (but i guess it's all a matter of opinion).
this song isn't my favorite off the cd, but i love the line "close the door and no one has to know how we are". isn't that just beautiful?? i feel like it's a powerful statement of love coming from him... he touches the surface on this intimacy that is completely personal to him--something that no one else can share or be part of. to me, it's a sincere and thought provoking statement. |

not only is this song powerful, poetic, and played beautifully, but it was the first RHCP song i ever heard. so, along with the deeper meaning, it brings me back ten years. okay, so maybe i was 8 and didn't see the underlying allusions to heroin addiction, but i loved it--and still do. ahhh, anthony kiedis has got to be the sexiest man alive. |

I don't know what this song means to Anthony Kiedis (a girl? drugs?) but as I listen to it, I imagine he is singing that there was someone he wanted to get close to, but she pushed him away...
"I got dosed by you/Closer than most to you" meaning that he was rejected, but was also able to get closer to her than anyone else.
I don't think "Way up on the mountain where she died" necessarily implies death, but suggests that the pedestal she was on ended up being destructive.
"Show love with no remorse" and the rest of that verse is his advice to her on how life should be lived.
Since he never did reach her... "Take it away, I never had it anyway" is sort of self explanatory.
How sad, all he ever wanted was her life (aka love). Kiedis can give me a call, I won't shut him out. :) |
