I can't think of a more true to life song. It's about breaking up with someone and holding out that hope that they will come back to you. But then they find someone and you have to REALLY get over it and forgive them and yourself. |

This song is about NYC - Post 9/11. She spends more time at his place because no one wants to be alone at this tragic time when the world is "getting colder" They stay in watch CNN coverage. The "missing signs" at the CVS refer to the people who were in the towers whose families put up missing sings. The (???) and fallen place is "summer stolen, fallen places" meaning 9/11 stole summer and the fallen places is the WTC. Basically this is hard time and everything is so sad, but this girl John has is the "brightist" thing he has.
This is def. one of my favorite songs of his. The "Any given thursday" version is SO much better! |

The song involves a pregnancy and the girl kills herself over it by taking valium. The baby's breath is a double reference to actaul babies breath and babies breath used in a wedding. Her death stopped a baby being born and stopped a wedding (rice is thrown at a wedding) |

Ok... this song is SOOO not about God. I totally agree with pragmaticpoetry. I always saw this song as about only 2 people. First he is speaking about about himself in the 3rd person, and finally at the end he reveals HE is the guy in the song. |

I can remember hearing this song when I was just a little kid (parents are big Henley fans). From then till now it has been one of my favorite songs. Whenever I hear it reminds me of a busteling beach town during the second week of September when everyone has gone back to work and school. Summers= innocence, carefree days, and love. This song is about when that all ends. But even though the girl's tan will fade and they will grow up, he will still love her. |

This song reminds me so much of my best guy friend. He was the first one to play this for me last fall. I was crazy about him and he only saw me as a friend. This song is about one-sided love. Then in the Spring I felt that it applied again because he was crazy about me, and I had a boyfriend. GREAT Song! |
