Rent – Without You Lyrics

^^ i agree but i don't think it's even bittersweet. just sad. it's clever songwriting because every line shows how life goes on (including..."life goes on"...) but that life really is pointless without that person.
god i miss my ex-. |

Wilco – Either Way Lyrics

the song as a whole may be more about ambiguity, but you can't tell me that the middle verse isn't about a relationship, sorry.
and unfortunately, it IS where i am right now. oh well. |

I love Paige's playing in this song, and agree w/ the above poster on the lyrics. Phish seemed to like to do that alot (Heavy Things, Sparkle for example) |

Phish – Tube Lyrics

this song is crazy. i'm guessing you have to look at the last line "so stupendous, living in this tube". maybe the song is just talking about how crazy/insane that life would be if you just based it off of what you saw on TV. |

Phish – The Moma Dance Lyrics
|
And all throughout I gaze and glimpse you
Loving never did convince you
I see you when you're all alone
It's like a person I've not known
The moment ends though I feel winds
Blowing differently than ever before
And they're pushing me further from shore
this part sounds like losing someone you love, them just losing the connection you had. though the mood of the song doesn't fit that (though phish often does that with some of t heir songs). |

Nickel Creek – out of the woods Lyrics

Wanting to be with somebody, especially someone who is uncertain about everything in their life. you have no idea what they're thinking and how they feel about you. so you might as well dream that they want you back.
kind of where i am right now. |

Ben Folds Five – Evaporated Lyrics
|
greenpillow's comment is certainly how I feel about the song. I hadn't really listened to it before even though it had been on my Ipod forever. Then me and my ex broke up a month ago, and it just came up and I listened to it as I walked across campus. Absolutely beautiful, I actually shed a couple tears while walking across the quad on this lazy autumn day. Still missing her, still not knowing what really happened, still totally in love with her. |

I really like this song, and agree with the "Sparkle" comparison. It's a nice changeup to Phish's normal sound, while still feeling like Phish. |

Ben Folds Five – Kate Lyrics
|
I duno if he's referring specifically to a girl named "Kate", but he wrote this (I assume) while in Chapel Hill, and there are two streets named Rosemary and Cameron, and it's known for being a pretty liberal college/town (hence then her "hippiness") |

Phish – Sand Lyrics
|
this song live is PHAT.....needs more love. and it's about more than literal sand IMO. it's saying you should get to the root of problems and make changes that will cause REAL change (instead of just rehabbing drug addicts, change something in the institution to prevent them from getting on it, for example). if you don't, you're not worthless but you're just like a million other little grains of sand that are just like you. |

Guster – Ruby Falls Lyrics

that's weird, it did the opposite at my show. everybody seemed really into it, but not in the singing along way that most guster songs are, but just.....so focused on the emotion in the song. i could name MANY guster songs worse than this. |

Phish – Fast Enough For You Lyrics

I think it's just about two people wanting to take their relationship at different speeds.....the singer wants to take it slowly/take their time, the person being sung to wants to move fast. |

Just saw this live, and even though I don't really like the new album, this song turned out to be one of the highlights of the night....just fantastic. Brought out the trumpet and everything! Great epic feel to it. |

Phish – Sample In A Jar Lyrics

I think it's about hooking up with someone at a party when the singer was drunk, and he's confused why she doesn't have lasting feelings for him (and she seems to just be helping him to his car/from the party out of sympathy). Or something like that. |

I hate feeling this way about one of my best girl friends, but I do. Damn unrequited love.
Beautiful, underrated song though. |

Tool – Vicarious Lyrics
|
It's upfrontness (when we expect hidden meanings) is what makes it that much more powerful, that were weren't ready for it. It feels so emotionally charged (like much other tool's songs) and amazing. The time signatures in this song are amazing, and they give the song a sort of a dark bounce to it. |

Audio Adrenaline – Get Down Lyrics

Part of it is about depression (verse 2), but also a big part of it (verse 1) is about humbling yourself and not being greedy/selfish, as in "the first shall be last and the last shall be first". Great song. |

Dave Matthews Band – Granny Lyrics
|
First off, these lyrics are pretty wrong in several areas..
I feel it's about (and this is similar to antsmarching's view) 2 friends that love the other but are somewhat afraid to say anything about it at first, then Dave gets the courage. You can understand this a little better by looking at the actual lyrics, not alot of the ones on here. |

Sigur Rós – Untitled 3 Lyrics

For a youth group retreat, I wrote out a guided meditation and set it to this song...(a guided med. is when you close your eyes while a leader/speaker reads out a story in the 2nd person..."You walk outside, you see a faint light", etc.).
I had a great response to it, and it frankly woulda sucked without this beautiful song. Amazing.
I just love how many different things each of us can take out of the same piece of music - entirely SR's intent, too. |

Great Big Sea – Ordinary Day Lyrics
|
I agree. I love it because it's so rare nowadays that we hear songs about having a positive attitude and keeping things in scope (though I'm sorry about that murder). We all get sooo worked up every day over so much stuff that's really just pointless in the big scheme of things. We should realize that it's just an ordinary day. |

When I saw them in concert in Raleigh, Boyd went absolutely insane on this song. It was probably his best violin solo I've ever seen or heard him do. |
