Pearl Jam – Saying No Lyrics 15 years ago
The latter part of this song takes its lyrics from the Fugazi song Suggestion. The theme that runs through the lyrics is very similar in both songs.

Ted Leo and the Pharmacists – The High Party Lyrics 19 years ago
I agree with the previous sentiments, but in the DIrty Old Town DVD, Ted's view on the song was more one of a confusion as an artist over whether the message they were giving was deemed worthy at a time that made so many Americans consider mortality as something closer to them than they'd like to imagine. He also expressed regret at leaving the line in about his birthday being September 11th and dismissing the idea as cheesy and accidentally left in.

Ted Leo and the Pharmacists – The Ballad Of The Sin Eater Lyrics 19 years ago
I thought the Sin Eaters were the project Ted started with his brother (or some family member) that were reknowned for explosive live performances but never released any studio recordings before breaking up and Ted recruiting The Pharmacists...

Antiba – Contraband Lyrics 19 years ago
Pretty self-explanatory really. Seems to be an attack on current pop music and the performers ignorance on their musical origins that were pre-decided by those who write their music for them.

Travis Morrison – The Word Cop Lyrics 19 years ago
I have a sneaky suspicion that this song is aimed at bent coppers. I know it's difficult to read it between the lines at first, but the subtlety in lines like "So don't talk to me about decency, you wouldn't know if it fucked you up the ass" spell it out loud and clear.

Travis Morrison – Born In '72 Lyrics 19 years ago
The bridge of the song is a tribute to the song "Break" by Fugazi from "End Hits". I e-mailed Travis to ask him why he'd done it and he replied:
"Uh, I dunno. Because it's fun? I love stuff like that, like when rappers quote each other, or jazz guys do, or the Beatles turn into the Beach Boys on "Back in the U.S.S.R."

Travis Morrison – My Two Front Teeth, Parts 2 and 3 Lyrics 19 years ago
Pretty straightforward. Travis got beaten up outside a Gap store one night and had his front teeth knocked out.

Ted Leo and the Pharmacists – The Ballad Of The Sin Eater Lyrics 19 years ago
I feel there's an anti-American sentiment in there too. The state of America causing him to leave his homeland for Europe and the chorus line reflecting the general sentiment of Europeans towards Americans in very recent times. His recounting of his European experience is showing that these European places aren't perfect and may not have the correct opinion.

I may be way off the mark though.

Beck – Loser Lyrics 22 years ago
Beck recorded himself playing slide guitar on a four track for about an hour. Then the guy he was working with Took part of the noodling and added a drum loop that became the main riff we know and love.

Beck then started rapping stupidly on top of the looped guitar riff, completely improvising. He was so embarrassed at the lyrics that he'd come up with that he just started singing 'I'm a Loser baby' in the chorus.
