The National – Racing Like a Pro Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Yeah, after I left that comment I realized it was probably about a guy, too. And I also heard pronoun. In fact, I still hear pronoun and I'm still confused by it, even though I know I'm hearing it incorrectly :) |
The National – Racing Like a Pro Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I think this one is about a girl who he used to hang with who got an office job, stopped doing what she really wanted to do to go corporate ("shooting up the ladder") and make a lot of money. "Your mind is racing like a pro, now oh my god it doesn’t mean a lot to you one time you were a glowing young ruffian oh my god it was a million years ago" She used to be young and happy and reckless.. caring about completely different things. He's acknowledging that she lost who she was by growing up and doing what's expected of her. What she's doing with her life doesn't mean a whole lot to her, but she continues to do it anyway, 'cause that's what success is. |
Sunday's Best – When Is Pearl Harbor Day? Lyrics | 20 years ago |
"I hate nostalgia. It tries too hard to remember only the easy parts." i think that's the basic idea behind the song, but this is just my second or third listen. either way, that part is brilliant. i hate nostalgia. |
Radiohead – Lift Lyrics | 21 years ago |
This song is so hot. I think it makes it especially touching, since he actually addresses himself in the first version... And the last line, 'so lighten up squirt' is like, "dude, don't be so serious"... Which is funny. The string synth sounds on this make its impact pretty tight, too. |
Radiohead – Lift Lyrics | 21 years ago |
(2nd version) This is the place Remember me? I'm the face you always see You've been stuck in a lift We've been trying to reach you This is the place It won't hurt, it will not hurt A smell of recognition A face you barely loved Empty all your pockets Cos it's time to go home Only one, only one Only one, only one Only one, only one Only one (??) You've been stuck in a lift In a belly of a whale At the bottom of the ocean A smell of recognition A face you barely loved Empty all your pockets Cos it's time to go home Only one, only one Only one, only one Only one, only one Only one (??) |
Radiohead – Big Ideas (Don't Get Any) (A.K.A. Nude) Lyrics | 21 years ago |
Actually, it's 'fill it with noise' not 'feel the noise'. Makes a lot more sense, too. I have a version of it that, in the third part, he sings, "She kisses you with tongues and pulls you to the bed". Same idea, of course. Anyway, this is possibly the most beautiful Radiohead song ever... It's definitely the music, too, cause when i hear it i think of something totally different than the actual meaning... So lovely. |
