It's a wonderfully sweet and endearing song...I like that Kevin Barnes isn't afraid to sing about such things...when two guys are very close in real life, things that are said by this song usually go UNSAID and I think it's beautiful to get them all out there. Everything this band does is surreal magic and I love 'em, they are worlds above a lot of music out there today... |

The opening chords are like powerful rays of sunshine, and that's just what the song is about--it's coming out into the warmth of music and simply being greeted by it--and enjoying every fucking note of it! Its learning the meaning of life through music, its learning ABOUT life through music. You can hear your life--the late night hangouts with friends, the morning walks to classes or rides to work, the lunch breaks, the rides home, the happy times and just an utter appreciation for life and music...all in this song. |

Well, there's a lot of soggy, cold imagery here. Ice cubes, water, swimming and drowning. There's a lot of religous type things to be wondered about...
But most importantly, it seems he got in an argument (possibly with a girl) and that this girl's got the 'gang of friends' -all on her side, and everyone is against him on whatever the argument was about...
But the religious stuff? the ancient boat = Noah's arc? and is he the religious one, or her?
So much to answer for

This song, possibly, is about the hardships of life, and "blacking" them out...the weather could be simbolism for it,....and scarves, caps, even sweaters, could be defense mechanisms...or the support of friends, helping him get through the day. But these defenses are pointless--it's brainless to decorate your window and assume it makes your perspective different. Once you realize this, you know "the hardest part is yet to come." |

Gibbard's is just one of the great song writers, lyrically, of our time... what bugs me about this song is that beautiful part right in the middle "this is when I forget to breath.....tells me exactly what you are thinking...." it's lovely and romantic and then he hits us so non-chellantly(sp?) with "this ain't working anymore"---pow!! oh Ben... |

I think they're definitely beatles-like....which is partly why I like them so much...(i have both of their albums) and I'll give them credit...their beatles-esque sound shouldn't be their only claim to fame(if they ever get it) anyway....everyone should hear this band...at least once...this is my favorite song from them, easily!! |

This is a great great song....easily one of my favorite BTS (possibly number 1...) and it sounds good....however, i've heard numerous interviews where Doug Martsch claims that he rarely goes for much meaning in lyrics...and is usually just putting random words to music....ever since then, it's been hard for me to find anything or get anything uot of a BTS song...(don't get me wrong....I still love 'em) |
