The Whites – Keep On the Sunny Side Lyrics 16 days ago
This set of lyrics is flawed from the actual performance versions always done. With that said, This was written my Mother Carter (Also known as Mother MayBelle Carter though her given name was AnnaBelle. And according to the story told by her famous Granddaughter, "Mother" wrote this in the back of an old ford flatbed truck as she and her sisters went to go sing for a church revival during the depression. And it has had a slight change to be done by non-gospel acts with the verse change of:
"Let us start with some hope for each day,
though your thoughts maybe dark and despair.
And may you help your brother always,
And treat everyone with dear care!"

I know that it's just a small change but for non-christians it makes a very enjoyable song be positive without forcing one religion onto anyone.

Dusty Springfield – Son Of A Preacher Man Lyrics 24 days ago
@[shlep:24885] Sister Aretha did cover it as well, but Dusty and Aretha both were covers of this song that was written 12 years before they did it!
The song was about a young love across the racial lines.
The Black preacher would get poor white members involved for the civil rights effect and would spend evenings at their homes to talk about the movement and Billy Ray was a preachers son. So typical was the old line "The only kids worse than the teachers kids were the preachers kids!"

Dion – Abraham, Martin and John Lyrics 24 days ago
The tracks for the song and label were already finished the day that Bobby ( Senator Robert Kennedy, Presidential Candidate) Was shot By Sirhan Sirhan. They went back to the studio late that night/ early in the morning hours and laid down the verse about Bobby that was wrote two hours after he was shot! And the sound that was used to bleed the additional track in is called "Angelic Harps" on a studio Wurlitzer Organ! The final verse didn't make it into the title or the liner notes because that was already to the printers. Many people had said that Bobby would walk into John's foot prints, nobody meant it to be to Assassination!
This song to this day brings back my vivid memories of having watched live on television both Kennedy murders! And I always still have a tear!

You're old if you remember where you were when the Cuban Missile Crisis alert went up, John Kennedy was shot, Lee Harvey Oswald was shot, The Challenger blew up, and The Trade Towers went down! It's been a lot to watch live on TV each time!

This song is much older than you think! Tommy James did it as a cover that was originally done by a black female singer (I can't recall right now which one) it was done in the early 50's. And it was about a black girl and a white boy. So it was definitely about FORBIDDEN love!
All other Tommy James songs are about drugs. This was just a cover to fill until it became a hit!

And now for another installment of "Music Histories":
You may ask WHO McGwinn and McGuire are in the song!
They are types of communication manipulation.
A McGwinn is a word or term that sounds like another but has a completely different meaning.Think of Two, to, too
or
Read and red
or Who's your daddy,
Hoosier Daddy'& Hoesier Daddy

A McGuire is a concept, idea, or thing that shows a total connection.
Think of the apple peal, the apple sead and the apple tree. They are all connected and any could just be called "The Apple"!

@[elwoood13:24868] Yes and no. Queen of Corona does mean GREAT at giving head! But it doesn't mean a GIRL that is great at head, it is a typical reference to a gay guy that gives such great head that even the straight boys will "let him suck them off" And the "goodbye rosie" was saying that he would not need to masturbate since he could just get great head! @[edguidry:24867] So you think that homosexuality was not a "cause" in the 1960's? Have you ever heard of the Stonewall Riots? Paul was from NYC, gay rights were a VERY BIG cause in the 1960's! A drag queen known only as "Delores Johnson" that has been immortalized for her actions that led to the stonewall riots and the beginning of the Gay Pride Movement was very active from 1964 through the Stonewall Riots. As usual, straight people have no knowledge at all of gay history, gays in their known history or how much the told history has whitewashed the gay side to any historical event! I'm guessing you still believe there has never been a gay man in the Presidency or a woman running the country or anything other than the standardized whitewashed straight misogynist stories of the REAL history!

I had a friend who was in need of a guitar picker in the worst ways!

Well I kissed that woman goodbye,
and she yelled out as I drove by...
Don't you let me catch you stayin in a Holiday Hotel!
Well I bought myself a ticket on the LA Express
I was destined for Modesto.
When I met my Navy buddy he said
I need you!
And I said
fine friend!
Well he told me that he had a surprize,
but what I didn't know I finally surmised.
I was standin there holdin a key to a Holiday Hotel!

((interlude))

I was awakened in the mornin,
by the ringin of the phone,
it was the hotel operator
I got a message from my friend
who'd checked out
he said
I'll see you later,
bye bye now!
He ran out before he'd paid me my bread
I remembered what my baby had said
Don't you let me catch you stayin in a Holiday Hotel!

Van Morrison – Domino Lyrics 1 month ago
@[msmsms:24696] Well as Van was very openly bisexual even in those closeted days it was most assuredly about "going both ways" as that what the term "Domino" meant back then! Domino was the gay slang term for being versatile (Top or Bottom) and Van just blended it into meaning going both ways with both genders! And he definitely meant it when he said "roll me over Romeo"!
Domino is a term commonly referring to polar opposites so in the gay community you were either a top, a bottom, or a DOMINO!

Stevie Wonder – Superstition Lyrics 1 month ago

It was easy to confuse a small child then, I have grown and learned much about music and life!

The core of the meaning behind Stevie's song is that ANY superstitions including religion, political party dogma, OCD behavior practices, ETC are just a slow you down and turn you around piece of wasted time that you shall never get back. Much of the basis was about all of the stupid racial beliefs and political practices used at the time to suppress as much of the liberal masses as possible so as not to increase the rise against the establishments conservatism!

Barenaked Ladies – One Week Lyrics 2 months ago
Well I can see that no one has actually got the story (meaning) of this song right! It is about a couple fighting of how flippant he behaved. It's about how he behaved at his friends funeral when he busted out laughing cos the guy got killed by taking a 9 iron to the head! And the other partner tried to apologize at the funeral, buy it's likely that the family wasn't having that. They are planning to see the family of the dead guy in TWO DAYS! And that's when he'll say "I'm sorry!" and they'll say "I'm sorry!" And the "chickity china, the Chinese chicken most likely is because the dead guy was Chinese! And I'm pretty sure that the guy who laughed at the funeral likely was the one who ACCIDENTALLY killed his friend!
(If I had killed a friend that way, I'd likely laugh at the funeral too!)

Crispian St. Peters – Pied Piper Lyrics 2 months ago
@[Jaysinamaze:24087] For many it is a great song either way, but "Heven" is a construct of the Judeo-Christian belief system. There are many many people in this world that are not a party to that system of beliefs. And for those who do not aspire to those monotheism's it does matter. Also this is a site of lyric meanings.
A) You can't truly discuss the meanings of something that does not exist! (I refer to the non-existent lyric, not the "heaven construct)
B) The entire song DOES have a very different meaning with just that one word change!
C) The meanings behind the song are about a pessimistic person that DOESN'T see all the HAPPINESS that surrounds their everyday life and always "masquerades" at aspiring to be happy not knowing that happiness is a state of being not of achieving!

So as you can see, it greatly does matter that that specific word is "happiness" and NOT "Heaven"!

The Animals – Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood (Nina Simone cover) Lyrics 2 months ago
This song was written long before ADHD or BiPolar were ever diagnosis so that's just some people WANTING it to be about their disorder. It was written about an abusive guy trying to "explain" rationalize why he is so often great and just as often abusive. BTW, there are quite a few of the lyrics that they don't have correct on this site! But as far as what the actual lyrics are about it is him trying to explain away why he has beaten her and why she should just let it go and stay with him. (NOT healthy for either of them! but that is what always happens!) Having grown up in a VERY abusive household I can tell you that it NEVER changes and that for either to ever be happy they must never be together and both need to figure out why they ever got into such a relationship.
(And it's not JUST the abusers fault. The "victim" has mental health issues too that have lead them to this situation!)

Stephen was gay. Fact. And this song was written about him wanting a guy he'd met at a seedy back alley gay club in the city (That was all there was and the only place to safely meet another gay guy then) to just come home and settle down as his lover in the straight world of the burbs. And they could live a closeted life that no one else would need to know if they just stayed inside the closet and privately lived. There was no way to ever be any kind of a "normal" couple if you were gay then, you either lived in the city and in the "Gay Ghetto" zone or you lived a very closeted life. Either way you "lived in a world of our own"!

The Monkees – Pleasant Valley Sunday Lyrics 2 months ago
Just a secondary note: There was a verse that didn't make it to the recording that was
"Mr Blue's got lots to do, he'll drop in soon!"
That verse referred to the Air Force bombers that would be expected but often were so over booked that they didn't make it to many "cover and collect intel" missions!
And for those who may wonder why the Navy PT boat guys were referred to as "Mrs Grey" it was because the Soldiers and Marines often called the Sailors on their somewhat "safer" boats the "Ladies" of the navy!

The Monkees – Pleasant Valley Sunday Lyrics 2 months ago
The meaning of this song was about a Vietnam Vet coming home with what was then called shell shock (now called PTSD). For clrification of this I shall give you the details in order:
"The local rock group down the street is trying hard to learn their song"
This refers to all the garage band songs that he listened to during the "raids/ actions. The chopper pilots played rock music VERY loud on speakers pointing out from the chopper to distract/disorientate/&annoy the enemy as guys jumped out to actions.

"They serenade the local squire who just came out to mow his lawn"
Again this refers to being droped into an action area and the "local squire" was the enemy out to mow down the troops jumping from the chopper!

"Another Pleasant Valley Sunday" is referring to how beautiful and peaceful the valleys all seemed as you dropped in to battle actions.

"Charcoal burning everywhere" is about the locals having small cooking fires that were quite often charcoals or were only left as charcoal fires after killing the locals!

"Rows of houses that are all the same, And no one seems to care!" refers to the little villages all looking the same after about your third or fourth action (That was within the first week to 10 days of arrival in country!) and after that initial disconnect from the job of killing any signs of "enemy" you become disconnected from all sense of humanity so as to mentally cope with the job of a Soldier or Marine there!

"Mrs Grey is proud today because her roses are in bloom" First off, Mrs "Grey" refers to the PT boats that were of course battleship grey. And the "roses" are the bursts of shots that ring out into the jungle that spray blood from the bodies of "enemy" bodies that would fly into the air just a bit when shot with the high powered boat guns!

"Mr Green is so serene he's got a TV in every room!" Refers to the choppers that were Army green and could look down at and into the little villages from rather far away. "every room" was every village enemy or not!

"Another Pleasant Valley Sunday here in status symbol land" Refers to it's just another day, another drop in action and it was all about the stats and status that was to be sent back to HQ to get the next action mission!

"Mothers complain about how hard life is, and the kids just don't understand" Was about the "Mothers" AKA Motherf*ck*rs" at HQ complaining about every little detail not reported and not actually knowing what was happening in the field. And of course "the kids" were the Soldiers and Marines who were mostly just fresh kids shipped in to replace the ones killed off! (Their names are ALL on the WALL in DC now!)

"The creature comfort goals, they only numb my soul, they make it hard for me to see." Refers to the pot and other drugs everyone used to "numb" to the daily and the lose of your own humanity to do the job!

And of course it continued every day you were there in "Status symbol land" with "charcoal burning everywhere" showing the world what a powerful nation the USA was so it all just fades into "Another Pleasant Valley Sunday
Another Pleasant Valley Sunday
Another Pleasant Valley Sunday
Another Pleasant Valley Sunday"

So of course everything when you did get home (IF you did get home!) was mirrored in your mind so strongly in the simple suburban life that only saw this war from their TV sets news every night like it was some kind of TV Drama and not the horrors of WAR that you'd had to go through!

Sorry I had to bring such a beautiful song to the real meaning behind the lyrics to those who "just don't understand"!

LoL !!!!
I'm guessing that no one who is listening to this song or is into this band has any idea what a "Wang Chung" is! It is a BDSM piece of equipment (very large) tht originally was a Chinese torture apparatus! I have been commissioned to build another one for a private home dungeon for someone I know. I'll be building it the summer of 2018 and will this time take lots of pictures of this new one!
(I built one several years ago for in my own personal dungeon, but as it was set into the concrete floor I sold it as one of the 5 large dungeon components that went with that house!)
And as far as the meaning of this song......well it's about having "fun" in the dungeon on the Wang Chung! Duh!
"Rip it up, move down, rip it up, move down to the ground!"
"Get out what's inside of you!'
"Deep in your world today, I hold you so close, just let yourself go down!"
There's much to learn about the Wang Chung and the many ways to use it. They are all kinds of "fun"!
"On the edge of oblivion, all the world's a Babylon!"
"Everybody have fun tonight, everybody Wang Chung tonight!"
I can hardly wait to finish and initiate a new Wang Chung this coming summer!

Let the punishments begin, and everyone enjoy them fully, everybody have FUN!

Mark Lindsay – Arizona Lyrics 2 months ago
I find quite a few references to the intelligence or "spy" field of WWI and WWII in this song!
The "Count of Monte Cristo" was an English spy and The "Countess May was a French spy that was born of Rumanian royalty and had been a wife of the King of Egypt and was often dressed as a man.
The precursor to the current CIA was originally called "The Brotherhood".
And the code name for MI5 was "Robin Hood"!
And San Francisco was where the USN had their cryptographer station at!
Also "Arizona" was the name of a famous WWII spy operation to share allied intel so named as such as a "revenge of the Arizona" sunken in Pearl Harbor!
"colors of green and grey" refers to the Army and Navy tanks and battleships.
"rolling balls in the hay" refers to spy's sharing but sometimes one uping as they shared intel.
And "Pancho and Cisco" were used as the Navajo code talkers code term.
Odd that all of these references to the WWI and WWII spy business are in one song!

Van Morrison – Brown Eyed Girl Lyrics 2 months ago
First to clarify...I am a gay man that grew up during the 60's.. (Yes, even went to Woodstock...though I can't remember how I got back home to Missouri!) This song IS about anal sex and Van was very active bisexually. Many singer/songwriter had to have a good believable cover story for sexual innuendo songs and the "brown skinned girl" was his cover story. He also used the very common term "girl" for the guy he was having sex with as he was a total top. The song was about the first GUY he had sex with and all the sneak away places to go "poke some fun"!
As a side note I grew up in farm country of Missouri and my first guy was also a blonde with brown eyes! (And yes, we had sex in the green grass of the hay field, down in an old mine, behind a stadium, and behind a beautiful waterfall that was on my farm! So this song hits every note of first sex, and anal sex, and "bit by bit by bit by bit"! I went back to Longview about 2 years ago and the rock ledge that the waterfall poured over had fallen, Gerald was married with 2 kids and a grand child on the way, (though he still snuck away), and all my memories had brighter colours than the realities of current times, but I will always have a special feeling for this song!
