The Beatles – Think for Yourself Lyrics 6 years ago
This is about exactly the same thing he sings of in "Beware of Darkness", i.e. EVIL.

The Beatles – If I Needed Someone Lyrics 6 years ago
As with many of the songs written by George, I think it should have been released as a single. I'm sure this and the others he wrote would have charted in at least the "Top Ten".

But his writing may have gotten little respect in the ears of
EMI / Capitol-EMI, deserved or not.

Simon and Garfunkel – The Dangling Conversation Lyrics 7 years ago
Difficulty in communicating, and some pensive reflection upon things that had been spoken.

In any case it is one heavy tune

This one came out just as I was starting to attend tenth grade. We had a very hip English teacher who had us bring in records that were happening at the time. We listened on an industrial phonograph, then had discussions about the meaning and social relevance of the songs.

If were a fly on the wall with a time machine, listening in on those classes right now, I would bet there was a fair amount of Dangling Conversation amidst the banter.

Neil Young – Long May You Run Lyrics 7 years ago
@[elwyn5150:19003] No, that one blew up and he managed to find a replacement, which he took to L.A.

Where do you suppose it is now? Don't think it's in his collection or you would probably hear or read about it.

Do you think Hearses could be haunted? Who wants that last ride to end? Woo-Hoo

Neil Young – I Believe In You Lyrics 7 years ago
In the liner notes from "Decade", Neil's comment on this song is: "I don't want to talk about it".

Obviously the situation Neil alludes to in this one was a very personal and emotional experience, because as far as I know he has only performed it live once. And that was many, many years after it was released on After the Gold Rush.

He didn't wish to sing about it, either.

"Now that you've made yourself love me, do you think I can change it in a day?"

That line strikes a familiar chord, as played in the non-stories of my own failed relationships...

Neil Young – Down, Down, Down Lyrics 7 years ago
I don't know when the title was changed, but on Deja Vu the song was listed as "Whisky Boot Hill, Down down down, and Country Girl. At some point it became just "Country Girl".

I have never heard or read some of the lyrics as posted here/ Is there a source available for this version?

You might also find it interesting that this song, and "Broken Arrow", share some lyrics and music which were taped during the writing of the songs. Vocal and piano, I my memory is correct. I found it VERY interesting.

Neil Young – Come On Baby Let's Go Downtown Lyrics 7 years ago
This is one badass rock song. The interplay and synergy of Crazy Horse with Danny Whitten and Neil might seem less obvious than it really was. Playing with Danny brought out a musical side of Neil's music that was way smoking hot. And the vocal harmonies of the Horse have not reached the soulful just-rightness (I don't want to say perfection) as they were with Danny in the mix... but maybe that's exactly what it was.

CSNY & W ! What could have been, if just for the moment (s).

Neil Young – Campaigner Lyrics 7 years ago
"Hospitals have made him cry" Recurring phlebitis, and his wife's struggles in and out of rehab.

On a musical note, no pun intended, this tune as released on "Decade" has a very interesting rhythmic style, and sounds just Neil, an acoustic guitar, and a story. It don't get much better than that.

The meanings are obvious.

"Wild gift horses strain the reins." Contributions to promote elections / re-elections. And / or the perks and bribes of "political business as usual" ?

Did Neil ever record "Campainer" with verse # 2 included? The version released on his "Decade" double album omits the second verse. Interesting.
