I would like to say I take this in both a religious and non-religious way. When I first heard the song, I automatically thought about religion. I'm just going to put up the lyrics I'd like to address, and I will give what I thought about it. You can't tempt me if I don't see the day (This part reminds me of when Jesus went out into the desert for forty days and had to fight off temptation.) The mirror shows not Your values are all shot (I feel like this part talks about how your face and physical body does not show who you are on the inside. It's saying that the person has lost sight of their values but nobody knows the struggle that the person is going through) Consign me not to darkness (Obviously, this reminded me of the bible. I would say that the person is either praying or talking to someone else. They are asking for help and not fall into sin.) Crawl on my belly til the sun goes down (This part reminds me of a snake. In the bible, the snake represents sin and/or the devil. In this case, I'm taking it as sin. Interpret it as you wish.) I'll never wear your broken crown (Broken crown in my eyes represents forgiveness. Jesus, during his crucifixion, wore a crown of thorns in which was a way of torture and to mock him on being the king and so called savior. The crucifixion was a way for Jesus to die for our sins, which in that case is forgiveness.) I took the road and I fucked it all away In this twilight, how dare you speak of grace [Those are the correct lyrics] ( I belive this is supposed to mean that the person thinks thinks they screwed up so bad, that there is no way they could ever be forgiven.) But in this twilight, our choices seal our fate (Once you make a decision, you can't go back.) There you go! Feel free to build on what I think! My dad used to be a pastor before my parents divorced, so that explains my immediate interpretation that it was biblical! |
