Iron Maiden – If Eternity Should Fail Lyrics 8 years ago
@[oldmanstauf:6514] My version of booklet said "reefin' a sail on the edge of the world" which makes sense. Probably a misprint mistake.

Therion – Wine Of Aluqah Lyrics 10 years ago
Song is about the Hashashins who are also known as and the origin of the word "assassins".

In 12nd century, Hasan Sabbah ( "The old man of the mountains") created worlds first assassin order and they were called Hashashins.

His base of operations was castle Alamut ("Eagle Nest") in modern day Iran.

Castle was made of two parts, second one hidden to members of the order. First part was the living quarters of members (who were all male) where they received heavy weapons, warfare, espionage, assasination and Quran teachings. Second part, only accessible to a selected few was practically the Heaven.

Second part was a lush hidden place where half naked slave girls (who were devoted to Hasan Sabbah) was living.

Any selected male member was introduced to Hasan Sabbah (who was recognized as a prophet in the order) in his private quarters where they were intoxicated by hashish ("Hashashins") and then woken up in second part. ("Intoxicated by green shadows of the paradise")

By this deception, Hasan Sabbah made his followers believe he alone held the key to heaven and if they succeed in their missions (mostly assassination) they were allowed into heaven. ("So read the old man of the mountains in his book of lies"). As you can guess this created a fanatic loyalty among his followers.

The verse "Know that nothings true and everythings permitted" is a common teaching of him.

I can't translate the first two verses, they are in Arabic but my native language Turkish has a few common words:
İblis: Demon
Gulshan: Rose garden
Shaitan: Lucifer in Islamic lore, head of demons. Şeytan.

There are some rumors about Aluqah meaning Allah but i guess the Hebrew vampire Aluqah was the true intention.

Also i came across a translation which claimed the second verse was in Ottoman Language which says "Rose garden of my heart o Lucifer" but I'm not sure of it's accuracy.

If you are interested in Assassins and Hasan Sabbah, instead of playing Assassins Creed i'd suggest you to read two novels about them. Vladimir Bartol's Alamut and Amin Maalouf's Semercande.

Hope this helps in understanding the lyrics.
