Owl City – Silhouette Lyrics 10 years ago
This is about regret and depression. Feelings that can be overwhelming that he can't explain. Why is it that we always try and find reasons and blame for the way we feel? Sometimes it is just biology sometimes it is not. Sometimes, it just is. It exists and we have to overcome. He also references past regrets and mistakes made in his past that haunt him- steps he had taken in haste. He overemphasizes them due to obsessive thoughts that drive him to the regret and depression. It feels like a vicious cycle. It is not just about a broken heart from lost love. He is trying to feel substance in himself but finds it very difficult, and people can empathize but he knows he walks alone and has to do this himself. There is hope in the Summer Stars. A reference perhaps to nature or a Deity that can help him. Something larger than himself to help him finally get home, or in other words, a place of peace.

The Avett Brothers – A Father's First Spring Lyrics 10 years ago
He is right on the money. You are a child before she is born. As a father, you will die for them, if needed, you feel it. And, you feel it as a new Father differently than when they are older. In his commentary, the artist is specific about that moment. In his case, Spring followed her birth. My daughter was born in December. So, I did experience that first Spring with her a tiny infant. The next year at one year old, she had just learned to walk and she had never done so on grass, only snow. Seasons have a way of stirring the emotions and memories. We connect them with the ones we love. Avett Bros. true song writers and artists, enough said, because of the way the song makes us feel. Not just by what is said.

The Avett Brothers – I and Love and You Lyrics 10 years ago
Those that create songs with multiple meaning and a haunting tune, are what we call artists. They are harder to come by than the stolen dimes referred to in the lyrics. It is the story of the band, it is the story of leaving a love that would never connect. What about those we still live with but are not willing to make the jump? Or, leaving one love for another. The hope to leave one love for another.

The key is the feeling. All these meanings leave a bittersweet taste in our minds. The kind of feeling you receive looking out over a vast wilderness or empty ocean/lake. Loneliness and nostalgia wrapped up in one song.
It means different things to each of us, but because it is so well done, it does mean something.

The Avett Brothers – February Seven Lyrics 10 years ago
I agree with the Mattin's "common road traveled " mentality as opposed to the more cliche addiction and adultery meaning most commonly associated with the Pop country music genre. It is deeper and has more of a Folk music feel to it. This is the whole reason I was drawn to the group and the music in the first place. My life is more commonly associated with daily epiphanies like this rather than addiction or adultery anyway, especially living in this modern world. A world full of distractions and information. A world where hours and hours can be spent basically doing trivial and meaningless things. And then, to wake up and see the person closest to him before him, as if for the first time, is a fresh beginning. A beginning that we can be reminded of and experience daily. The most meaningful phrase to me "I'm rested and ready to begin." This implies that one needs to get away for a minute to reflect, calm the mind, meditate and re-direct from the unattainable. Re-charge the batteries. Peace comes from this. Some choose meditation, some seek through prayer. In this case, close ones motivate. Good advice and much more meaningful than your average song.
