@[Stephen_Bradley:4332] I agree with Stephen, and with some of the rest. I think the first part is an internal dialogue, where the author is struggling with his physical desires as well as the expectation of God, that sex is only meant for marriage! If he was struggling with homosexuality it doesn't change much either, but I think his talking to himself in the first part. The general idea I got is just a man that knows God's plan, but can't see how it fits with his feelings, urges, thoughts. His feelings makes it feel right and real, yet the King tells him it's wrong. So, his body and his mind are telling him one thing, but the ultimate question is whether he can defend himself before the King. I might be totally wrong on this, but I think the attention and affections, might be referring to people saying that they want to sleep with someone because of love, but in doing that they are leading them down a path of ruin thus they are exposed as wanting attention more than affection... lust over love. In all of these struggles I think the author knows that he is missing something and he knows he is wrong - and he is not jsut looking for happy feel-good answers, but he is looking for a Truth that he understands and can follow with his whole life. Before he really understands that I think he feels like he's denying himself for no real reason at all. God created marriage and sex as a beautiful expression of His G0spel - Eph 5:22-33 - and in that we will be most happy. But that is a difficult thing to grasp. |

| @[o2226238:4331] Brilliant interpretation! I love the honesty of this song. I believe that every follower of Christ has felt something like this in the fight with sin! Unconditional love and grace is incomprehensible to the human mind. we feel like we get a set number of chances, yet, Jesus' sufferings were infinite, because He is infinite and paid for our sins, past present and future. As you said, true believers won't go on sinning unrepentant, but will fight. | |

Firstly, I think this song is so well written and composed (even if I do not agree with the opinion that is expressed here)...almost like a lullaby. Which, come to think of it, might be a clue to the meaning. If Eddie did write this to resemble something of what Chris thought then this song might "sing him to sleep" I think this song is extremely sad. On bended knee is no way to be free lifting up an empty cup I ask silently that all my destinations will accept the one that's me so I can breath [clearly the bended knee refers to religion - but if it is, then I do not know who he is asking in the next line? It looks like he's saying that religion and people or "society" rather should just let him be whi he is] Circles they grow and they swallow people whole half their lives they say goodnight to wive's they'll never know got a mind full of questions and a teacher in my soul so it goes... [The circles might refer to the rat race or the rats (people) running in it. They are chasing something and losing everything else that is supposed to have some substance. He does not seem to understand this idea that people do that sacrifice what's real for something so fake. I think he thinks that he will figure it out and on some level his soul knows the answers his soul wil find his truth not the Truth(in which he does not believe). So it looks like he is an "everything's relative" kinda guy] Don't come closer or I'll have to go Holding me like gravity are places that pull If ever there was someone to keep me at home It would be you... [this might be his sister, but I think it's everyone that knows him as his old self...as Chris. Also it seems like he is looking to live life alone - he has got questions, but also has the answers in his soul!] Everyone I come across in cages they bought they think of me and my wandering but I'm never what they thought got my indignation but I'm pure in all my thoughts I'm alive... [People (the rats) are happy in their cages, the american dream, and Chris confuses them, he was smart enough for a good career and to get a good cage... but he just left wandering - that is his indignation - running away, but Chris thinks he is running towards something] Wind in my hair, I feel part of everywhere underneath my being is a road that disappeared late at night I hear the trees they're singing with the dead overhead... Leave it to me as I find a way to be consider me a satelite for ever orbiting I knew all the rules but the rules did not know me guaranteed... [he thinks that in nature he feels some fellowship with the animals and nature in general] |
