My idea of this song is that the magpies that are keeping her awake with their singing and eating of their berries represents something more personal going on with their home. To me, this could be just peace in general. Whether its literal peace and quiet, or inner peace that is lacking. Sometimes I get this feeling that I'm stuck in a rut, and theres a little something in me nagging me that causes it... my own little magpie or personal demon for lack of a better term, keeping me on my toes wide awake. i also remember living at home and enjoying the nights that I was the only one awake, because it was quiet and i felt a sort of peaceful solitude. To me, Karin is seeking that feeling/need for a personal break... this is common for parents. |

This song's ambiance adds to the downtrodden and brutally honest lyrics. What I gather from this one is a huge tribute to humanity's greed. I think she nails it with certain lines that tell me we have greedy attributes even as children in "Dangling feet from window frame, Will I ever ever reach the floor? More, give me more, give me more." Subtle greed, but yet, it's still present. I think she is saying that as we age we lose our innocence, and acquire a more primal want for whatever it is we want. "if i had a heart i could love you, if i had a voice i would sing. after the night when i wake up, i'll see what tomorrow brings." those lines tell me that humanity is focused so much on the future and expansion of our people that we've forgotten to love ourselves and forgot what true beauty is. "Crushed and filled with all I found, Underneath and inside just to come around. More, give me more, give me more" This line speaks of the moment we as humans get when we retrieve what we've yearned for and the bliss that almost immediately turns into boredom... so we march over that want and onto the next. This helps me imagine a horde of lumberjacks desecrating a forest from an overview. I love me some Fever Ray... and this is also the intro song for my favorite show Vikings... This song has quickly became one of my favorites, as well as the album. |

| To me it's about moving through life, and suddenly finding yourself lost. You are the writer to the story of your life, and sometimes youre too busy in the moment of what you've created that you lose track of whether or not it was the right decision. So to me the "it" she was speaking of is referring to living freely with no regret. Just because youre using the "eet" key doesn't mean youre going to replace anything... could be shes just going back to re-read and remember what she just wrote about since she lost her place. | |

I like this interpretation best, because this is how I felt when I heard this song as well. Of course I have to say that I'm in a position where this song means a lot to me. I'd like to add that it (drowning) could be symbolism of her letting go of her past. And she is asking the present to never let her go so that she doesn't return to the sinner she had became. I don't know if Florence is religious, and I am not... but it could represent a certain baptism. I see her more as a spiritual person, rather than religious... so it could just be an expression of her own spiritual baptism, resting in the sea, letting go. |

it is, "the crushes are heaven for a sinner like me." the word "crushes" can be a synonym for "swarm, horde, mob," etc, so she is saying the waters crush is bliss for a sinner like herself! hope I helped. |

| I like the idea that he is talking about abortion, but himself having an abortion with his childhood. he had a bad childhood, and talked about it in interviews. so maybe he's talking about flushing all that from himself the best way he can. | |

I think this song has a kind of way of telling the world, "yeah i see what you're saying, but i don't care." I think it's saying... the majority of the world has created a structured society, enforcing rules that then force a black and white view on life or right and wrong. And with all that, i think Chad is very enlightened, and believes that the structure means everything to majority, when really it means absolutely nothing. Life is more than a game, more than power and money. If we were to act as one, we'd be better off. |

My view of this song is this... The person is speaking to someone they love and care for. They are saying at first, they believe they can help this other person. Come to find out, they are a poison for this person. All that the speaker is good for in the other persons life is darkness and misery. So with the speaker knowing this, he/she is cutting ties to save the other person while telling them to go find their light. hence, "i divorce the thoughts of you in love with me, i divorce YOUR innocence and MY guilt." |
