The Psychedelic Furs – The Ghost In You Lyrics 6 years ago
The guy is frustrated because he always gets a bad rap for what he does while the woman is admired, even though she has bigger problems that he does, but her problems are hidden from everyone.

Suzanne Vega – As You Are Now Lyrics 6 years ago
It's a juxtaposition of the sweetness of parenthood with the dark side that wishes the child would not grow up and leave. Have you ever heard a parent playing with their child and say something like "I just want to eat you up"? Of course they are playing, but what is the underlying impulse of a parent is wishing they could physically keep the child as part of their own being? Teeth, hair, etc the closest you can get and still let them leave the nest.

Logic – Black SpiderMan Lyrics 6 years ago
Encouraging for anyone that has ever felt hesitant about who they are. Talk about a big tent, this song definitely is one.

MNDR – Stay Lyrics 6 years ago
Many songs about the staying power of love, but this one takes a different perspective, it's awesome.

Barbra Streisand – Evergreen Lyrics 7 years ago
All of the lyrics are happy, yet the song is sad. So genius!

Phantogram – Don't Move Lyrics 7 years ago
Love the opposing urgency of telling yourself both to 'shake shake shake', like keeping yourself loose, but then 'keep your body still', like telling yourself to not lose control. Gotta balance both, it's not good to be too stiff but it's also not good to be too loose.

Kelli Ali – Kids Lyrics 8 years ago
Young love, daring, brave, alive.

Debarge – Love Me in a Special Way Lyrics 8 years ago
I've just always thought that is a great lyric "Reach into your chain of thought, try to find something new, what worked so well for you before, for me it just won't do." Definitely calling-out the player. Very Aretha-esque!

The Smiths – You Just Haven't Earned It Yet, Baby Lyrics 9 years ago
I've wondered if any this may be aimed at United States. England versus United States. England has a longer history yet United States wants to be an equal force in the world.

Echo and the Bunnymen – The Killing Moon Lyrics 9 years ago
I guess I'm the only one that thinks that The Killing Moon is actually Love. But a comparison is being drawn between the graveness of love being similar to that of death.

Tori Amos – Northern Lad Lyrics 9 years ago
I think this song has several really funny lines in it. "This cake just isn't done" makes me think of "someone left the cake out in the rain". And "how his knees could bend" what kind of desirable attribute is that?

submissions
The Dream Academy – The Love Parade Lyrics 9 years ago
It's how affairs outside of the marriage happen. It's neither judging nor glorifying, just depicting. This is an amazing song that is quickly fading into obscurity, and what a loss that will be!

submissions
Billy Idol – The Loveless Lyrics 9 years ago
The girl and guy have a special connection because neither of them live life in the mainstream. I think it's a powerful start to the album, sort of an anthem of sorts.

submissions
Vampire Weekend – Finger Back Lyrics 9 years ago
I just like the way that the song ends up being about star-crossed lovers even though it doesn't start out that way.

Love – You Set The Scene Lyrics 9 years ago
It's a day-in-the-life song. Every day we are faced with many different things. Work stress, worries about world events, etc. but then on the completely opposite end of the spectrum seeing meeting someone beautiful that you want to get to know. The desire for human connection is what keeps us going, gives us the courage to smile, and sets the scene.

Prince – Cream Lyrics 9 years ago
The song seems sexual but is really about excelling and being the best that you can be.

Suzanne Vega – Penitent Lyrics 9 years ago
You have let down your spouse or significant other. Maybe you have cheated or maybe you just let them down but not being a good partner. Now you realize you are losing them and you are very sorry. They are detached now and maybe their emotions have move past you. You do not want them to leave or end things and you want the relationship to be whole again. It's all in their hands. You will be the best partner you can be to them now and you will try to make up for how you let them down, but it may not be enough or it may be too late. You want them to tell you what to do to repair things, but why should they since you already failed them? It's all in their hands if they will forgive you and keep you.

Morrissey – Driving Your Girlfriend Home Lyrics 10 years ago
The thing that always stands out to me is that the girlfriend is pathetic in her attempts to be rescued by someone else. Why doesn't she just be honest and break it off with the other guy?

submissions
The Free Design – Bubbles Lyrics 10 years ago
This is the genius of The Free Design: the song is all giddy and happy-sounding, but it's about the fears and worries that a person has when they are young. That's how adolescence is, outwardly fun, but inwardly difficult.

The Smiths – A Rush and a Push and the Land Is Ours Lyrics 10 years ago
This song is even more ironic when you think about America and how so many of us white people feel like what we have is God-given and that everyone else only has what they have because we allow them to have it. Pretty backward since the land was not ours to start with.

General Public – Faults and All Lyrics 10 years ago
Here it is, the key to any successful long term relationship. All spelled out nicely in a song!

10,000 Maniacs – City Of Angels Lyrics 11 years ago
Everytime I am downtown and see homeless walking around I hear the lyric "stumble, stagger, fall and drag themselves along the streets of heaven." I always wonder if they have the injuries and conditions that cause the limps and posture problems before they become homeless, or does it happen after they start living on the streets?

Journey – Why Can't This Night Go On Forever Lyrics 12 years ago
A perfect Chapter 2 to "Faithfully".

submissions
Van Halen – Hot for Teacher Lyrics 12 years ago
It's a fantasy that the high school guys joke around about. Probably a normal every day event and nothing exceedingly twisted about it. The song is not meant to be about an actual incident of a teacher and high-school student having sex. I do agree with Pippin on what the "pencil" is meant to be, but it's just a boy's perverted joke or thought.

submissions
Kate Bush – Lake Tahoe Lyrics 12 years ago
Could this be the sweetest ghost story ever told? All of the little details are laid out over this long beautiful song.

The second half really reminds me of "All The Love".

Freelance Whales – Hannah Lyrics 13 years ago
I don't know anything about Freelance Whales or the movie/film about Hannah. I just know I dig this song and probably always will.

submissions
Kate Bush – And So Is Love Lyrics 13 years ago
The new version on Director's Cut has changed the word "sad" to "sweet" throughout, thereby changing the meaning of the song completely. I like both versions, but prefer the original lyrics, not because I believe that life is sad, but I think we all feel that way sometimes.

submissions
Climax Blues Band – I Love You Lyrics 13 years ago
A blow-by-blow of falling in love in a meaningful way in the 1970's.

submissions
Billy Joel – An Innocent Man Lyrics 13 years ago
Most of the world is cynical and immobilized, but I choose to live life to the fullest.

submissions
Andy Gibb – I Just Want To Be Your Everything Lyrics 13 years ago
If a relationship is going to be real you have to invest yourself, and it's a two-way street.

submissions
Olivia Newton-John – A Little More Love Lyrics 13 years ago
It's when you have such strong feelings and attraction to a person that you can't resist them sexually, but you hope that it will all lead to true love in the end.

Pink Floyd – On the Turning Away Lyrics 13 years ago
The turning away is complacency towards the pain and suffering of other people, whether it be a large-scale disaster such as a tsunami or a personal loss such as a death. As you go through life, the cumulative pain of all of the bad things that happen will cause you to turn away and detach yourself emotionally, which in the end hurts mankind as a whole because we become less vested and have less desire to help one another. It is human nature and our protective instincts that cause us to turn away but we have to continually focus and work to keep this from happening, both individually and collectively in our society.
