Broken Social Scene – Anthems for a Seventeen Year Old Girl Lyrics 13 years ago
Oh, this was also my very first BSS song. I heard in a Plato's closet in Atlanta, before Shazam and the iphone, so I actually had to ask the clerk who was on the speakers...:) Years later, still one of my favs!

Definitely about leaving behind your first love, and youth. Growing up, and "not coming back". One may wish to go back and have those moments of pureness and energy from their
first loves or favorite person.

"Park that car, drop that phone, dream about me" ---> Asking the other to go back in that time and place; leave your, leave your cel, sleep on the floor and dream of me, of our youth.

Amazing song!

This song to me is about a love that cycles on and off over the years.

When “we come together we forget ourselves” — (Its always fun and good times and they momentarily forget the past hurts and breaks ups that was them. They even forget their current lifestyles which are eachotherless.) They simply live in the moment of them.

The hourglass on their time is always starting and inevitably they realize that each can’t give what the other wants, so it never works out for good- “The beginning must become the end.”

They both move on with others and their lives change. She is the one girl that really got him, shaped him, and knew him and so she is the one who appears in his “solitude” because even though they don’t work out, they try to know each other “through all her changes”: high school, college, career, hobbies, hair colors, even her becoming a wife, a mother, and so on.

He is asking her “please let me go.” Let go from her, let go from their memory.

My version anyways….
