Brand New – Seventy Times 7 Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I haven't seen that, and that might be a part of it, but the main message of this song was about Jesse Lacey's issues with John Nolan. Nolan slept with Jesse's GF, and this song was directed at Nolan. |

My personal interpretation is that this song's about how religion can be blind. Stones in your eyes and ears would make it impossible for you to see and hear what's really going on around you. Religion often blocks or ignores science because it disproves their own theories on things such as creationism. The lid to the jar is religion's close-mindedness to new things, even though outside the jar, there's a whole 'nother universe that's unexplored. Just my interpretation. |

I think of George Bush. "So you tried to put a fire out, but you used gasoline." Trying to create Middle East peace by invading it. "When the army had to hold the line you were nowhere near the front." It's well known that when Bush was drafted, well, he just sorta disappeared. "Before the kids could tell the dog goodbye you were loading up your gun." Despite the fact that he attempted to escape Vietnam, he was quick to send young men off to war. |

I don't know if anyone's said this, but I see it as a couple wondering if they'll be together after death (i.e. He goes to Hell while she goes to Heaven, or vice-versa). There are some parts that I'm not sure about, but here's what I've got. "And I wish that I could tell you right now, I love you But it looks like I won't be around So you won't know" Here, Jesse is saying he loves this woman, but since they've been seperated, he is unable to tell her. "So believe in me, believe in me, believe in me, Believe, if you think I'll let you down Well I won't They can fire everything they've got And when you think Im sunk I will float on and on I have burned the bush that covered my light Even though I'm scared I won't burn that bright But you won't know" Here, he's trying to reassure her that they'll be together after they're dead, and that they'll be together. However, they're no longer together, and he realized that he was unable to hold his promise. However, he carried on in either Heaven or Hell, and she can't confront him ("You won't know") because they're now apart. "So they say in Heaven there's no husbands and wives." The Bible has mentioned that there are not husbands or wives several times, so, at the end of the day, it may not really matter that they're not together. "On the day that I go up they'll be completely out of their forgiveness supplies. And I can't use the telephone To tell you that I'm dead and gone so you won't know." This suggest that Jesse ended up going to Hell for a lack of faith, and he has no way of telling his wife that they will not be together any more. |

That's an interesting interpretation of the song. Hadn't thought of it that way. |
