Dead Man's Bones – Lose Your Soul Lyrics 13 years ago
I think it is about doing things to conform to the way society wants us to be and not liking them.
Doing them and wiping emotions clean.
Nothing.
No dreams.
Only what we are supposed to feel.

That's what I think it is about.

Dead Man's Bones – Werewolf Heart Lyrics 13 years ago
It's funny that a lot of people comment on all their lyrics don't really say the mean of the song just 'love them'
lol
It's hard to tell isn't it? =P

Well, I think this one is about her talking about how love sometimes doesn't work for certain reasons.
Maybe because she is trapped to or behind something?

BTW love them.
Listen to them all da err da.

It's about dead people being everywhere.
We ARE running out of space.

Bones of the dead being right under our feet.

Why does it have them as Gothis genre on here?

They are clearly indie?
You can hear to much of the snare for it to be anything alse?

Dead Man's Bones – Flowers Grow Out Of My Grave Lyrics 13 years ago
I think the floating above his bed part is about dying and floating above his own body.

And the 'when I think about you, flowers grow out of my grave' part is about being in love.

That's what I think.

I love them so much.

Especially Baby Goose. :) <3

Dead Man's Bones – Young and Tragic Lyrics 13 years ago
Why is neither Zack nor Ryan singing in this one?
That kinda bothers me.
That the littluns are singing all throughtout the album.
But, I still apreciate it.
Love it actually.

One day I will get to ask Ryan what this song is about.

I'm not going to lie, when I found out that he had a band I was like 'Oh, no' you know? Cause Ryan has a heavenly voice but I didn't know what the music would sound like.

Now I listen to Dead Man's Bones everyday.

CocoRosie – Werewolf Lyrics 13 years ago
Blah Blah Blah.
That's all I'm reading.
I didn't even read the end because you sound so bland.
You TRYING to sound witty.
You are completely incompetent about music like this.
Showing, you answered to this.

You have no idea what you are even listening to when you listen to them do you?

On the being a new fan thing. Yes. You are too late.
Fail.

See, that's what makes you so incredibly lacking in ability to acknowledge what you are experiencing with them. The fact that you think they 'need' money tells me you are indeed 'bat shit crazy' yourself.

Yeah, but you had to look up their names to tell me google does that now didn't you?

Look punk, I didn't say they were making music soley for my benifit. I'm just letting you know that they're not doing it for fucked people like you.

Yeah. You didn't even know what the song was about until I came along. So, piss off.

Oh, by the way, I run on Bing, bitch.
Not Google.

CocoRosie – Summer Breeze Lyrics 13 years ago
I actually think their brother commited suicide. He was sick. And like many other people in the world I believe they forgave him for his sickness to cause him to be incest/sexually abusive.

Yes. I totally KNOW that their brother was sexually abusive. I just know it. I swear, their music is like an investigation. The clues are in the songs.

-Sierra says she was sexually abused in that interveiw. In Summer Breeze it cleary says 'my brother' in any version you listen to and the song is about sexual abuse as a child. They loved their brother cause they still speak fondly of him or maybe they are being sarcastic? I just doubt it though... He is dead. Why would they speak about sexual abuse like that if it wasn't true when he is dead?-

But you can still love someone who hurts you like that. People all around the world deal with that situtaion everyday and come out of it still loving the abuser.

CocoRosie – Beautiful Boyz Lyrics 13 years ago
Dude, you all suck. The song is about Jean Genet. Its not a story. It's the life of a man.

And by the way, 'Tattoos of ships' Ships means that they have had to go through hard times and/or are free spirits.

And then 'tattoos of tears'. Everyone in the whole wide world knows that means that you have commited homocide.

His mom was a prostitute.
She abandoned him.
As a kid he was a petty theif.
When he was 16 he was sent to mettray reformatory.

'Got caught stealing from a nun
Now his love story had begun'
I don't know if he really loved crime but thats what it's referring to. His love of crime.

He was a beggar, narcotics smuggler, thief, forger and male prostitute.

Right. It's Bear Hides And Buffalo.

Man, that Island of the Blue Dolphins is intense.
Native Americans would make sense seeing how they are part Native American.
Obviously that was an impact on them some what.

CocoRosie – Armageddon Lyrics 13 years ago

I believe when Bianca and Sierra are making reference to Jesus and religion they are trying to make an up roar or statement about it. More so, actually mocking religion and how people think of God. Or in softer words, making people think about things.

But, if it IS on the other hand and they are very religious, (which sometimes I find myself questioning back to myself) then, that would mean some of their music would be racist, sexist, very offensive and, actually, against everything I love and have learned about CocoRosie.

I've always thought that they sing and write about things that have happened to them and horrible things that are happening to others. I've always loved them because they sung about their sexual abuse, the abuse of women in marriges, the wrongfulness of sexist traditional roles in marriage and how all those things are wrong and that people should think about these things more, maybe even do something about it. But, if they are religous I do believe it goes against a lot of the mockery that they make in a lot of their songs like By Your Side

'I just wanted to be your housewife
All i wanted was to be your housewife
I'll iron your clothes
I'll shine your shoes
I'll make your bed
And cook your food'
--Always thought this part was about the wrongfulness of forced traditional roles in marrige

And then the next line
'I'd wear your black eyes'
--About marital abuse

Or Jesus Loves Me
'Read your bible good and well
Don't forget about that apple spell
Don't fall in the wishing well
Wishing for heaven and gettin' hell
Wash behind your ears don't smell
Cover them freckles don't ask don't tell
Kiss your papa but not too long
Hold his hand
Don't do no wrong

Jesus loves me
But not my wife
Not my nigger friends
Or their nigger lives
But jesus loves me
Dat for sure
'Cause the bible tell me so'
--Mockery against racism and how some christians feel they need to be in order to be accepted in the christian religion.

So what the hell?

CocoRosie – Black Poppies Lyrics 13 years ago
'Black poppy sleeps a dreamless night
In summer shade of moony light
Hazy veils of clouds loom low'

Pretty sure they're talking about H. Black poppies are what H is made out of. 'Moony light' and 'Hazy veils' is so right. H is like a hazy veil. If I'm wrong I'm wrong but, come on...

CocoRosie – Werewolf Lyrics 13 years ago
I hate that. 'New fan'. You just. Can't. CocoRosie is one of those bands that can't really be called a band because they are so far beyonds those limitations. They are unlike anything I've ever heard before. I just feel so tarnished when people from outside the circle of the tight knit family of the beginners of the CocoRosie fans interfer with the family. I really do. I started listening to CocoRosie almost four years ago and if you are 'a new fan' and your first experience with them was Werewolf (the first song by them that pops up on the search engine when you type them up) then, I don't know what. I kinda feel hostile. I'm really protective of Sierra and Bianca (Their names if you are really that new). I've never ever ever never ever never ever ever ever heard a bad song ever by them. Ever. And I will forever have them in my heart. They are beautiful.

And Americans need not spread word about them becuase we don't need Americans interferring when they're all the way over in France any how. ( It's like Fight Club, or Tumblr. the first rule : Don't tell)

Don't tarnish the family, man.

And By the way, nice try everyone,The songs about their god damn brother. And he is deceased. But I'm pretty sure he was sexualy abusive. So, Yeah, Thats that.
Peace out.

CocoRosie – Lemonade Lyrics 13 years ago
Well, if you knew anyhting about Bianca and Sierra Casady then, you would know that their parents were separated when Sierra was five and Bianca, three. Their mother, Christina Chalmers, was of Native American ancestry. Their father was interested in Native American religion. As little girls, they spent summers with him while he visited Indian Reservations and went on vision quests. Sierre and Bianca didn't enjoy these things like their father did but, came to appreciate these experiences later. So, That's that about the memories with fther part.

Now, about this Simon kick you guys got going on... I've never heard them say his name after 'Calling out his name' then again I don't listen to any other version of this unless it's the album version. But the first part of the song is talking about an ambulance. But, in the begining she sings 'It was Cinco de Mayo' so, what does that have to do with 'Pillow case on his head, No more breathing time, An ambulance sped, Sped round every corner, Calling out his name'. But I am almost certain that they are talking about someone who has been hung or has hung themselves and has stopped breathing in the ambulance. Their brothers name may be Simon. But, What I do know is that their is deceased whether or not his name is Simon, their brother is deceased. So, that could be what the begining is about. There is nothing about the Casady sisters' brother but I have always had the thought in my head that maybe he commited suicide...

So, with corrections made in the lyrics, here is my opinion...

It was Cinco de Mayo
Pillow case on his head
No more breathing time
An ambulance sped
Sped round every corner
Calling out his name
(Simon, their brother commited suicide by hanging himself with some sort of revelance to Cinco de Mayo. Whether that be the day he did it or because of it or that's what it reminds the girls of when they think of it. He did it with a pillow case over his head. Makes sense. That's what they use to do when they hung people way back when for dumb crimes so that the witnessess didn't have to see the face of the criminal. Sounds like they are saying that he was either already dead before he was in an ambulance or he stopped breathing when he got in the ambulance. Maybe the ambulance was calling out his name symbolicly like, the siren of the amublance haunts them.)

Shot a rabbit from the back seat window
Sat and watched in the summer corn grow
Ate icecream in a desert dream
Got lost in fathers singing
Too hot inside to hot outside
Lazy days when you said lets go for a ride
We'd sail on Spirit Lake
Me, my pappy, and his lemonade
(I'm wondering if their brother lived with their father in stead of with their mother because in the begining it seems like they are singing about their brother but they are also singing about their father and spending the summers with him. Hence 'Me, my PAPPY, and his lemonade'. but before that part they sing 'Lazy days when YOU said lets go for a ride'. Who is 'you'? Simon? If that is their brothers name. Maybe the whole song is really (if their brother did live with their father) about their brother and their life with him before he died. Maybe it's all just memories about their brother.)

Tim and tina were my parents' names
They got engaged they were inflamed
Seduced by the lie of butterflies
How they shimmer, how they glimmer
Those butterflies
(Maybe the girls only thought their parents were together for such a short time because their parents were only lustful toward each other. Butterflies are usually symbolic for beauty 'Seduced by the lie of butterflies'. Suduced by the lie of beauty maybe?)

We seven kids, we almost died
Nearly put to death by lightning strike
Instead there was hot pink flashes in the sky
We climb the rocks in snow and rain
In search of magic powers
To heal our mother's pain
(Mothers pain... Their father must have made the domonating desicion to leave the relasionship. Or maybe he cheated. But I think this is saying that it was really hard on the kids and they tried to make their mother feel better about the separtion. Maybe thats why their brother is dead? Maybe that is a contribution to his death. Maybe.)

Shot a rabbit from the back seat window
Sat and watched in the summer corn grow
Ate icecream in a desert dream Got lost in fathers singing
Too hot inside to hot outside
Lazy days when you said lets go for a ride
We'd sail on Spirit Lake
Me, my pappy, and his lemonade
