The Beatles – You Know My Name (Look Up the Number) Lyrics 13 years ago
Actually, all four Beatles were involved. Here's a list of those involved and what they did.

* John Lennon — lead vocals, guitar, maracas, sound effects
* Paul McCartney — lead vocals, piano, bass, handclaps, sound effects
* George Harrison — backing vocal, lead guitar, vibes
* Ringo Starr — vocal, drums, bongos
* Brian Jones — saxophone
* Mal Evans — sound effects

Also, Jones was already an accomplished sax player when the songs was made. The idea for the song came from John in 1966 during the Sgt. Pepper's sessions. John was at Paul's house and said he had an idea for a song. He had looked down at an advert in the cover of the telephone book that read, "You know the name, look up the number."

All four were involved in the first three sessions on May 17, 1967 and June 7 & 8, 1967. It was during the June 8 session when Jones added the sax.

The song was left alone until April 30, 1969, when John and Paul returned to it and added the vocals along with Mal Evans who added additional sound effects. One of the engineers on the song, Nick Webb said, "John and Paul weren't always getting along that well at this time, but for this song they went out on the studio floor and sang together around one microphone. Even at this time I was thinking 'What are they doing with this old four-track tape, recording these funny bits onto this quaint song?' But it was a fun track to do."

The original version was nearly two minutes longer than the version released on the flip side of the "Let It Be" single. You can hear it on YouTube.
