I hear "When you showed up in the top" as "We shot up in the car" |

We have a good indie scene here. If you are some shitty poprock (i think "surf rock" is a way of saying generic popular rock that wont be popular for very long) band maybe moving to LA would do you good, but Seattle and PDX are just as good (if not better) of places for indie bands. |

Boney M – Sunny Lyrics

shouldn't it be "Sunny, thank you for the facts from A to Z"? A-C is not a lot to be thankful for. |

Dead Prez – Animal In Man Lyrics

agreed, Orwell was a committed socialist. He fought for the anarchist/socialist side of the Spanish Civil War. It always makes me laugh to see these Tea Party nutcakes draw from Orwell, saying he warned us of socialism. He "warned" us of totalitarianism and the importance of democracy and freedom. Not that i think its at all valid to guess what the dead would think, but id guess he would have the same feelings on the american healthcare system i do, its stupid and we need to go with the rest of the world and socialize. |

they gotta pay rent somehow. I dont watch TV, so maybe its different if you have to hear it there, but i dont really care. this song hasnt lost anything by being in an ad. And unless you are only drinking local beer, and never buy anytihng from corporations, you cant hate too much. |

Modest Mouse – Willful Suspension of Disbelief Lyrics

I dont find it depressing that there is on afterlife. I am a very happy atheist.
Issac obviously has some opinions on religion, from what I understand, he grew up in various religious sects throughout the northwest. I have never met the man so i cant say what his beliefs are, but from his lyrics i gather he does not believe in god, and certainly is not a follower of organized religion. |

Modest Mouse – Call to Dial a Song Lyrics

good lord people. you give way too much credit to artists. not everything they put on an album has some deeper meaning. Sometimes lyrics just sound cool, sometimes you just get awesome messages from friends about taking a camping/road/tour/fishisng/whatever trip to Montana. |

The Postal Service – This Place Is a Prison Lyrics

Ben still lives in the puget sound area from what i hear, so not too sure if its about him wanting to get out. Sometimes artists get an idea for a cool sounding song that has little personal meaning. A dystopic Seattle may have been a dream he had, so he wrote a song about it. |

Modest Mouse – Spitting Venom Lyrics

Great song, but it feels over produced. I feel like in the last couple albums they have really lost a certain feel to their sound. Its almost too clean. Still one of the best bands out there though, and they're reppin the northwest! |

Honestly people, no need to get all Freud, this song, as with most Modest Mouse songs, is pretty straight forward. |

THANK YOU! Two awesome, but completely different house bands. Plus, that implies that Daft Punk is old and gone. |

Pink Floyd – The Great Gig in the Sky Lyrics

IMHO it does the whole album, and the band, a discredit to analyse songs individually of an album meant to be played through. This is merely a verse in the larger song that is Dark Side of the Moon. |

90% sure this is about getting laid after a long dry spell. plus the reference to both "it" being too long, and the song itself being 10min. |

I dont think you can analyse this song individually as, at least it seems to me, its part of a 3 part piece, Godless, Mohamed, Nietzsche. |

It's selfish to hurt everyone that loves you for your own "benefit". Friends and family of suicide victims dont want the person to stick around sad, we wanted to help them, but they didnt give us the chance. Id bet youve never lost anyone you loved to suicide. |

Modest Mouse – Cowboy Dan Lyrics

Not going to pretend i know whats going on in the mind of Issac Broc and comment on what the whole thing is about, but i really dig the whole thing where hes getting shitfaced on a reservation, the complains about the city moving to him as if taking his land. I think its a good commentary on our, white peoples, perception of this land being our god given right, forgetting its stolen. |

Modest Mouse – Grey Ice Water Lyrics
|
I think this very well could be a drug reference (as speculated by xxlocobassistxx) as Broc has struggled with addiction for quite some time. I think the Alaska allegory is just tying in his northwest roots as working in canneries (especially after a break up or other trauma) is a fairly common practice. |
