isn't it so amazing how music can affect people so differently? i've been hearing this song since i was a little kid and it never affected me like it did 2 seconds ago. i'm 22. i'm really hung over, haven't slept, and i'm just barely seeing that i finally have ALL GOOD PEOPLE in my life.. (all the bad ones that have hurt me are gone and i've finally let them go) and this song made me cry (jeff buckley version/came up on pandora... sorry)... because it represented EXACTLY what i was feeling. "HALLELUJAH" because people aren't ANYTHING CLOSE to what you think they are. people ARE innately good. yet there are some who have been lost. but don't become one of them... hallelujah in realizations of whatever you're problems are in life and knowing that you've overcome them. (or knowing that you CAN overcome them). this song... is AMAZING. (i cried!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) :D HALLELUJAH! "i used to live alone before i knew ya" could mean a lover, a friend, a parent... anyone that means anything to you. hallelujah that i've finally found the GOOD in people and have weeded out those who hurt me (downloading more cohen as we speak...)

she is deciding who to choose: alejandro? fernando? roberto? hmmm, who should i pick?... how about none! "she's not broken, she's just a baby, but her boyfriends like her dad (just like her dad)" she's not a bad person, she's just young. besides, why should she pick any one of them? especially since her "boyfriend" (aka whoever she may or may not choose, in this case she does not choose any) is controlling or "father-like". |

She is simply describing a beautiful place. She's illustrating a large and "dangerous", yet magnificent scene. You guys are over thinking it. She made this song somewhat vague intentionally, so people would try to twist and turn the story to fit their imagination. It's pretty genius if you ask me. I remember playing this song over and over on my trip to South America and I was stuck on buses for several hours at a time. But this song for some reason stuck... it just seemed to match with all the beautiful trees, quaint villages, grandiose mountains, etc i was seeing through the window. I'm guessing it matched because in this song she is being pretty much literal. |
