Sebadoh – Crystal Gypsy Lyrics 13 years ago
Awesome. Way too short.

Jeff Buckley – Haven't You Heard? Lyrics 13 years ago
I don't think it's really about governments or corruption. It's about paranoia in general, especially towards other people; "beware your neighbour", "haven't you heard that we're done for", the bit about eye contact etc.

They Might Be Giants – The Shadow Government Lyrics 13 years ago
I take it to be about corruption, but I see the chorus as being about the opposing political parties (the main party not in power is called the shadow government) not calling the party in power out for their corruption.

Drugstore – Say hello Lyrics 13 years ago
It's "drunkards", not "drug-heads"

Smog – Hangman Blues Lyrics 13 years ago
The most depressing song ever written

New Model Army – Green And Grey Lyrics 13 years ago
I highly doubt the members of NMA condone what theNew Model Army did. Their music is very much anti-war, and takes every oppurtunity to denounce nationalism and out-group hostility.

New Model Army – Better Than Them Lyrics 13 years ago
It's about the out group hostility that is so endemic in humans.

Guided by Voices – Lord Of Overstock Lyrics 13 years ago
Either about commercialism, the injustice of income disparity, or bit of both.

Guided by Voices – Redmen And Their Wives Lyrics 13 years ago
How could no-one have commented on this? Not only is it the best song on UTBUTS, it's one of GBVs least cryptic songs- it's about native americans (i.e. "redmen and their wives") having their land taken from them.

Sebadoh – Brand New Love Lyrics 14 years ago
I don't think sad is the right word to describe it. "Bitter" would be better.

Guided by Voices – Smothered In Hugs Lyrics 14 years ago
"It seems very "Atlas Shrugged" to me in theme."
... except it's good.

Oh! Burn on Ayn Rand!

I think it's just about people not getting the recognition they deserve for their acheivements.

Smog – Rock Bottom Riser Lyrics 14 years ago
I'm not sure about this being about addiction. It's certainly about being pulled back from the edge, but the nature of that edge is unclear. I'm inclined to agree with thepowercut- this is a more general song about the people who are there for you if you ever need them

Sebadoh – Dramamine Lyrics 14 years ago
Well, dramamine is a drug which acts as deleriant and a halluconogen at high concentrations, so... it's about a dramamine trip?

Pixies – Motorway To Roswell Lyrics 14 years ago
I wonder if Frank Black is a Carl Sagan fan? The only time I've ever heard the earth referred to as a mote (other than in this song) was in Sagan's Pale Blue Dot ("the earth is a mote of dust, suspended in a sunbeam"). There views on alien life matched up too; Sagan believed that there is other intelligent life out there, and that an encounter between ourselves and another intelligent race would be a thing of wonder and beauty (like Black seems to show, especailly on The Happening). Hmm....
